Zeldarius
| | Recently I've been playing a little freeware game called Zeldarius that I found a while ago. I played it quite a bit when I first got it, and now I've started playing it again. It's a top-down view space shooter that's Zelda themed; what would be your space ship in a normal shooter is a Link sprite from the original Legend of Zelda, and he shoots swords. You can also get Boomerangs that shoot out diagonally, and Bombs which instantly kill everything on the screen and make any enemy shots disappear. Heart Containers extend your life meter by one heart, and Rupees give you extra lives. Also, all the enemies are enemies from the original Zelda, with fitting attacks for each. For something so simple, it's a lot of fun -- and I'm not just saying that because it's Zelda themed, either. ^_^;If you'd like to try it out for yourself, you can download it at http://www.angelfire.com/ex/desbreko/Zeldarius.zip. It's only 638 KB zipped, and all you have to do to play it is unzip the files into a folder and double click the exe file. I've also made a text file with the controls and included it in the zip file. So far, my high score is 17,211. Think you can beat it? ^_^ Edit: I just got a new high score! It's now 17,531 points, which is 320 higher than my old score. | | |

More Fan Art
| | Well, I just that noticed my Ice Rod art was no longer in the Zelda catagory, but a new Video Games catagory that took its place. And, since it's now all video games, that means I'm finally able to submit my Shine Sprite art! I've already sent it in, so it should be up pretty soon. (Unless Adam and James start slacking off on the approving of fanart, that is. ~_^) | | |

Now Playing: Yoshi's Island - Touch Fuzzy, Get Dizzy
| | Anyone that's played Yoshi's Island is sure to have some funny memories that go along with this week's song. (I know I do, heheh). For those of you that haven't played the game, however, I'll tell the tale of those giant floating puffballs.Basically, "Touch Fuzzy, Get Dizzy" is the name of one of the levels in the first world of Yoshi's Island. Its name comes from the big, white puffballs that float around throughout the second half of the level. And, just like the title says, you "Get Dizzy" if you touch one. (Though really, it looks more like Yoshi is on a bad acid trip or something). I don't think I'll ever forget the first time I touched one, watching Yoshi stumble around on the rippling ground with X-ed out eyes while everything changed to bright, swirling colors. Everyone should play this game at least once, if only to see that. Well, that's it for this week's Now Playing post. Stop by again next Sunday for another acid trip -- I mean, another song. | | |

Wednesday, October 1, 2003
| | Hmm, so it's the first day of October. That means there's only three months left in the year... It seems like just a little while ago it was this time last year. I remember working on ShineGet.com with James in August and September, and then reading/hearing about Animal Crossing and wishing I could try it out. Same thing with the e-Reader, though of course I didn't have the money for either, since I had just bought Super Mario Sunshine. Probably the biggest thing on my mind at the time was Zelda: The Wind Waker, even though it was still six months away. And now that I think about it, it really didn't seem like it was that far off back then.... You know, it just occured to me; whenever I think about how long ago something was, I always relate it to how close it was to a big videogame release in order to remember when exactly it happened. I even have memories as far back as 1998 like that, relating to the release date of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (November 24). Who knew videogames could help with your time sense? | | |

Now Playing: FFVIII - Don't Be Afraid
| | Don't Be Afraid is the name of the battle theme from Final Fantasy VIII, and it's the midi I chose for this week. I have no idea why they named the song "Don't Be Afraid," and in fact I've never really played FFVIII much, but I like the song all the same. Although the gameplay doesn't look all that interesting to me, I really love some of FFVIII's music.You--yeah, you. Come back and listen to the new song next week...or else. | | |

Now Playing: Lagoon - Atland Theme
| | The song for this week is the Atland music from the old SNES game Lagoon. Atland is the town that you start out in at the beginning of the game, and I like the song because it sounds happy and peaceful to me, which the town is. There are even dogs that say "Woof," if I remember correctly. ^_^;
Blah blah blah, new song next week, blah blah. You get the idea.

Eight Hour FFTA Binge
| | I started playing around 12:45 AM... It's now almost 8:45 AM... I wore the battery down on my GBASP so that the red light came on, meaning I only had an hour of play time left, and then plugged in the AC adapter to charge it back up while playing. When I stopped just now, it was fully charged again. I play this game too much. | | |

Chrono Cross
| | I finally beat Chrono Cross today. So, now I've finally experienced the Chrono games for myself, and I'm very glad I did. Both Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross are wonderful games, and I loved how the story in CC wove together with CT's so well. It really ties up all the loose ends from CT, explaining all the things I was going "But what about..." over, after beating CT.
I still like Chrono Trigger more, though. The battle system in Chrono Cross may have been fun since it was different from anything else I'd seen, and it was more than twice as long a game, but I just had more fun with Chrono Trigger. CT didn't seem as serious as CC did, at least not for the most part. But it did still get very serious in some parts, so I thought there was a good balance. CC's story seemed a little too...heavy? There didn't seem to be too many lighthearted parts to it, and less funny bits. It was a good story, and it was more complex than CT's I thought, but I just didn't have as much fun with it.
There were also some things in CC that made me go "Why the hell did they make it that way?!" And I never did that with CT, sooo...

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance
| | I already posted up a big long post on OtakuBoards about FFTA just now, so I won't say too much here. But, I will say that this is an amazing game. I got it about three and a half days ago, and I've already played for around 30 hours. (If anyone's been wondering where I've been the last couple days, now you know). If I weren't playing on a GBASP, I would have gone through two sets of batteries already! I think my SP is actually saving me money in the long run, and it's also nice to be able to charge it while playing. First time I actually used that. ^_^ | | |
