Well, I now present to you, the first part of Shadow Spear. Hope you like it.
The Griffin, a Human Alliance cruiser, was in orbit above Djunn, the home world of the species known as the T’Lan. They were keen to destroy the human race, but the Griffin was here to insure that the T’Lan would never achieve that goal. So far everything was quiet, no shots had been exchanged, so far. They used a type of plasma as a weapon. A green blob of plasma would come out of the orbital guns when they fire, which they haven’t fired yet. They hadn’t noticed the Alliance cruiser, so far this was going well.
Delano, leader of the Marine’s elite team, Shadow Spear, checked his assault rifle’s ammo for the second and last time, you could never be too careful in situations like this. Although he was a little nervous, he had the right to be. He wasn’t just going behind enemy lines, it was like he was sneaking in their house and praying they wouldn’t notice him.
His small band of the Alliance’s best Marines consisted of some of his closest friends. Michael, was a master with a combat knife, Delano had once seen him cut perfectly through things so small it was hard to believe. Sam, he had always been the best at protecting a command post by setting up complicated perimeter defenses, like mines and stationary turrets. That’s why Sam was usually left to protect any kind of base. Then there was Sarah, she was a master at stealth and hand-to-hand combat. Last of all, himself, Delano. After so many victorious ground engagements with the T’Lan, he was appointed the team leader of Shadow Spear.
Hopefully, this would be the last mission they would have to embark on. In essence, it seemed simple. Although complications would always be able to rise. Like Captain Forrester had told Delano in boot camp, “whatever can go wrong, will go wrong.” This was a mission where he hoped nothing would go wrong. They were to infiltrate an enemy complex and attain a Prophet. A religious and political figure in the T’Lan’s eyes. If they obtained the Prophet, it was possible, they could negotiate with him, and the war would end.
The hangar’s doors parted and Djunn flooded the view from the small Prey drop ship. Delano did one last diagnostic on his battle suit’s shields. As usual, they were fine. The battle suit was a perfect black, made of the toughest metal known to man. Whoever wore it had to be extensively trained to even move in it. The helmet had a visor to protect from muzzle flashes or any sort of damaging light and tubing that allowed oxygen inside the helmet. For this mission, the armor’s shields were augmented with light refracting technology. Stealth was the key and this gave them an edge.
The pilot removed the locking clamps to the Prey and they lifted off. That was Delano’s cue to debrief the team on their mission.
“Okay troops, simple procedure. This is a stealth mission, so we get in, get out, and pray that we don’t have to use our weapons. We’ll be going inside of a building, it’s large, so we’ll know which one at the drop. We capture a Prophet, a small T’Lan, dressed in royal looking garb. All that stuff. Then, well, we call for extraction and make a break for the extraction point. Got it?”
“Yes, sir,” Sam, Michael, and Sarah all said in unison.
“We’re coming up on Djunn, sir,” the pilot said to Delano and the team. “Prepare the landing sequence and do a radar sweep of the LZ,” he said to the copilot.
“You heard him guys. Lock and load. Michael and Sam you set up base at our LZ, Sarah and me, we’ll be the ones to go retrieve the Prophet.”
“Yes, sir.” The plan was all figured out, now time to put it in action.
“They’ve detected us, prepare for evasive!” The pilot yelled.
“Brace for impact!” The first wave of plasma hit the hull of the Prey. The cockpit was instantly disintegrated.
“We’re dropping now! Move!” Delano released the straps that confined him to the seat. He sprang from his seat and smacked the emergency release on the drop doors. Correspondingly, they quickly parted and the daylight flooded in.
Sarah was the first to jump, followed by Sam and then Michael. Delano was the last to jump and as soon as he felt the force of gravity pulling him down to the ground another wave of plasma bombarded the Prey. It fell down to the ground in a smoldering heap of metal. The next thing Delano knew, his face smacked the visor and he went unconscious.
