The Twists of Fate: Chapter Three: The Lost Lamb.....Part One
Pit-a-pat!
The rain came down softly, flowing with the gentle breeze of the wind that came down the street.
Splash!
The rain was starting to form small puddles in the street. Although it wasn’t coming down hard, there sure was a lot of it.
Splash! Splash!
Two pairs of feet came down the water filled street. It was a man and a woman, and the woman was carrying something. They looked young, not much out of their teens. Both of their heads were covered, shielding themselves from the falling rain that was coming down harder.
“We’re almost there,” came the man’s voice. The sound of it was carried away by the wind almost as soon as it left his mouth.
The two trudged on, both keeping their heads down, as the wind, which started off as a calm breeze, had turned into a ravenous storm. A flash of lightning flickered across the sky. The woman clutched what she was carrying even closer to her. The man walked in front, trying to block the gale from hitting the woman.
“There it is,” the man said, as he pointed to a building that was coming ever nearer. A small sign stood in the yard of a house that was dilapidated, and an ominous yellow color. “The Second Street Orphanage.” The shingles on the roof were coming off, and the shutters were coming off their hinges, only just barley hanging on. They were swaying in the gale, making a very annoying sound. The paint was chipped in many places, and some of the windows had holes in them.
“I don’t know about this,” the woman said looking up at the house, and back down to the bundle.
“Look, Molly. This is all we can do for her. At least here she’ll have a normal life. We couldn’t provide even a fraction of the stuff she’ll get here.”
“But…she’s my baby,” the woman said looking down at the bundle in her arms with love. The hood of the baby’s face was moved back. She took her finger and slowly stroked the baby’s brown hair.
“I’m sure we’ll see her again…someday.”
The woman looked at the man, tears now dripping down her cheeks.
“Look,” he said taking off the necklace he was wearing. “I’ll give her this locket. In it is a picture of us, taken just a couple of weeks ago.” He placed the locket around the baby’s head, and gave her a kiss. “I’m going to miss you. I love you.”
The women placed the baby on the doorstep. “I will always love you.” She gently kissed the baby’s cheek, and wrapped her up. Tears were flowing down the woman’s face. The man comforted her. Then as they both looked at the little girl, they rang the doorbell and ran away, holding each other’s hand.
“Who’s…who’s there?” came a gruff voice from inside. An old man, around the age of sixty answered the door. “Celina! Here’s another one!” Third one today, he said to himself as he picked up the baby and shut the door.

BEEP!
“Ms. Kaoru, Ms. Kaoru. Time to wake up! You need to be getting to your forth hour class now.”
I opened my eyes, which started to sting because they weren’t used to the light. I blinked and got my eyes adjusted. The first thing I saw was Ms. Kensze, standing over me, that nice smile on her face.
“Well, I’m glad to see you’re still alive,” she said playfully. “Let’s take a look at your bruise.”
She pulled back the blanket and took a look at my shin.
“Good, the swelling’s going down. It shouldn’t be all that visible by tonight. You’ll be fine. You better go. Your friend is waiting for you outside the door.”
I just blinked and stared at her. What had just happened? Was all that just a dream?
“Ms. Kensze, you weren’t watching a movie or anything were you?”
“No, no…of course not, silly. You must have been dreaming. Now go! Sarah’s waiting.”
She pulled me out of the bed, and pushed me out of the door.
“Thanks for your help,” I said as she shut the door behind me.
“Karrie, are you ready,” Sarah just turned into the hall, and was coming toward me.
“Yeah, I think.”
“Come on, it’s time for lunch!”
