Job Shadow: Only if u’re lucky enough to be at a school who does this. For a specific amount of days everyone in ur grade/standard goes to a company, and “shadows” an employee. Which means u basically just sit there and watch the person work and ask questions (be in the persons shadow ^_^). Wise to choose a company/place of work that’ll relate to your occupation one day, so that u can at least see first hand at what u’re getting yourself into.
Da Tips XP
Some stuff that an illustrator told me on how to improve my drawing etc.
- Never become too proud of your work, there’ll always be someone better than you (I don’t rate myself too highly, I never did. Just incase u thought it was a direct criticism at me. I was and never will be full of my work)
- ALWAYS use construction when drawing plp (cylinders, squares, “thingies” etc)
- Always use linear perspective when drawing; it will give your picture more depth (trust me, u can’t do without it.)
- Be loose when drawing so that the character is more natural and comfortable looking. (use a H pencil for construction and planning and use a darker pencil for eyes etc like 3Bm, pm me if u don’t undastand and I’ll show u.)
- Get a book on how to draw the human body.
- Draw from realism; it’ll help your drawings seem less synthetic and flat. Rather concentrate on drawing realistically than drawing anime. Anime is based on realism (duh) so rather work forwards than backwards.
- NEVER copy pictures, you’re just wasting your time (taking an original picture and just duplicating it). You will go nowhere with that. Besides it being tracing, it’s very uncreative and cheap. It’s ok if it’s only practicing, but trying to post it as ur own work? Give me a break! God gave u an imagination pls use it! (OK, this point only applies if u are planning to go into the industry, pls, no offense if u aren’t mkay? It’s NOTHING PERSONAL! ^_^’’)
- That’s another thing. Always welcome criticism; it’ll help u become a better artist (and person ^_^). Plp only crit with intensions of helping u, so take it as a favor and never personally. (If the person does it with intensions of being nasty, they’re an asshole, but take their crit into consideration there may be some truth in it. We go back to the point in not being too full of ur work *_*)
- Practice makes perfect and don’t give up.
- Only go into the industry if u have a passion for drawing, and NOT because ur an otaku. My friend, u will find urself very screwed if that is the reason ur gonna become an illustrator… be realistic n.n
- Last point, hard work is the key phrase (is it a phrase? Who cares, sounds good don’t it?). Don’t expect to achieve greatness if u aren’t going to work ur ass off O.o
Hope this’ll help u guyz and if u’ve got more questions just ask n.n I won’t bite ;P And don’t panic with what I’ve just told u, if ur still in school and not in ur last year, you’ve got lotz of time to think about this :D
