   Hi!
First Presidency Message, Joseph Smith Jr.—Prophet of God, Mighty Servant
By President Gordon B. Hinckley
Ensign, December 2005

We do not worship the Prophet [Joseph Smith]. We worship God our Eternal Father and the risen Lord Jesus Christ. But we acknowledge the Prophet; we proclaim him; we respect him; we reverence him as an instrument in the hands of the Almighty in restoring to the earth the ancient truths of the divine gospel, together with the priesthood through which the authority of God is exercised in the affairs of His Church and for the blessing of His people.

The story of Joseph's life is the story of a miracle. He was born in poverty. He was reared in adversity. He was driven from place to place, falsely accused, and illegally imprisoned. He was murdered at the age of 38. Yet in the brief space of 20 years preceding his death, he accomplished what none other has accomplished in an entire lifetime. He translated and published the Book of Mormon, a volume which has since been retranslated into scores of languages and which is accepted by millions across the earth as the word of God. The revelations he received and other writings he produced are likewise scripture to these millions. The total in book pages constitutes approximately twice the volume of the entire New Testament of the Bible, and it all came through one man in the space of a few years.

In this same period he established an organization which for 175 years has withstood every adversity and challenge and is as effective today in governing a worldwide membership of some 12 million as it was in governing a membership of 300 in 1830. There are those doubters who have strained to explain this remarkable organization as the product of the times in which he lived. That organization, I submit, was as peculiar, as unique, and as remarkable then as it is today. It was not a product of the times. It came as a revelation from God.

Immortality and Eternity

Joseph Smith's vision of man's immortal nature reached from an existence before birth to the eternities beyond the grave. He taught that salvation is universal in that all men will become the beneficiaries of the Resurrection through the Atonement wrought by the Savior. But beyond this gift is the requirement of obedience to the principles of the gospel and the promise of consequent happiness in this life and exaltation in the life to come.

Nor was the gospel he taught limited in application to those of his own and future generations. The mind of Joseph Smith, tutored by the God of heaven, encompassed all mankind of all generations. Both the living and the dead must have the opportunity to partake of gospel ordinances.

Moroni 10:4-6

And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.

And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things.

And whatsoever thing is good is just and true; wherefore, nothing that is good denieth the Christ, but acknowledgeth that he is.

Yeah! Guys, we'd like to announce that we have a new member joining our family. Another clone! (Actually, maybe two. Yeah!) I'll announce names later, but I will tell you that they already know Kyo-clone...or at least the originals know the original Kyo...this could be interesting.....

Love to you all, and pocket hugs. God bless you. Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ love you. The Holy Spirit be with you. Ttyl.

Christ = Messiah = Savior

Comments from our "family" later. ^.~

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
D&C 121:45 -46
Let thy bowels also be full of charity towards all men, and to the household of faith, and let virtue garnish thy thoughts unceasingly; then shall thy confidence wax strong in the presence of God; and the doctrine of the priesthood shall distil upon thy soul as the dews from heaven.
The Holy Ghost shall be thy constant companion, and thy scepter an unchanging scepter of righteousness and truth; and thy dominion shall be an everlasting dominion, and without compulsory means it shall flow unto thee forever and ever.
   Hi!
How are you guys? I think this Christmas party is going to extend to a New Year's Eve party (and I will add more to it).
God be with you.
   Merry Christmas!
Equus: Good evening, and welcome to…our Christmas Party!
Xihuitl: Please come this way.
You enter a hall decorated with evergreen boughs, ribbons, and white balloons and lights. A table at one end boasts food and refreshment; at the other end of the hall, a dj takes requests for music.
Equus: We have cookies and sweets and crackers and cheese—
Xihuitl: —and veggie trays and punch, for Starflower—
Starflower: Wheeeeee! (glomps Dark)
Equus: And hot chocolate and milk and those little finger sandwiches. And we have a wide selection of music, from pop to soundtracks, from Manheim Steamrollers to Evanescence.
Xihuitl: Please keep the dance floor neat by not littering, and the walls neat by not being a wallflower. If you feel lonely, I’m sure one of our characters would love to dance with you.
Duo: Anytime, my ladies. But first, where’s the punch? (runs off)
Equus: And of course we have people visiting like Uo and Hana.
Xihuitl: Oh, yes, I’m sure the Yankee would love to dance.
Equus: And there’s a little mask-decorating table over there. Your own tiny masks, to commemorate of this festive occasion.
Xihuitl: Yeah, this is the first time Equus has gotten to use her ballroom.
Sano: Equus, there you are.
Equus: You mean, there you are. You’re late.
Sano: ^//^
Equus: But you’re wearing a suit. How handsome! (kisses Sano’s cheek) Well, have fun. Hang out. Talk. Insert selves and characters. Whatever. ^.~ Just keep it G-rated, please. And please be sure to visit the nativity scene. Remember, Jesus Christ is the real reason for this season.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

And lo, a star appeared, shining in the east.

A gift of love it led to. Remember God the Father and Jesus Christ, and hearken to the Holy Ghost.

God be with you.

Love, and remember the Lord's tender mercies!

(Here's a shorter post, buddy. ^.~ Feel better hugs!)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Robert J. Whetten, “Strengthen Thy Brethren,” Ensign, May 2005, 91
Responding to the question, “Master, which is the great commandment in the law?” Jesus answered: “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”
To ancient Israel and down through the generations of time, His prophets past and present have always taught this all-encompassing eternal truth—that to inherit eternal life we must have love in our souls: love for God our Eternal Father and love for our fellowmen.
In the closing hours of His earthly ministry, Jesus said to Peter, “But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

David A. Bednar, “The Tender Mercies of the Lord,” Ensign, May 2005, 99

Near the conclusion of the singing, to my mind came this verse from the Book of Mormon: “But behold, I, Nephi, will show unto you that the tender mercies of the Lord are over all those whom he hath chosen, because of their faith, to make them mighty even unto the power of deliverance” (1 Ne. 1:20).

My mind was drawn immediately to Nephi’s phrase “the tender mercies of the Lord,” and I knew in that very moment I was experiencing just such a tender mercy. A loving Savior was sending me a most personal and timely message of comfort and reassurance through a hymn selected weeks previously. Some may count this experience as simply a nice coincidence, but I testify that the tender mercies of the Lord are real and that they do not occur randomly or merely by coincidence. Often, the Lord’s timing of His tender mercies helps us to both discern and acknowledge them.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Love the Lord God and your fellowman! It takes time, but it can be done. He never gives us a truly impossible task.
Fact of the day: (I think...)
The only remaining, truly wild horse is Prezwalski's horse...something like that. Other "wild" horses, like the mustangs, are actually feral. They, or their ancestors, were domesticated, but for whatever reason ended up living wild.
   Hi, guys!
I went to church yesterday. We had a good Relief Society lesson about not taking offence. One good point was that sometimes we take offence when none was meant. Another thing about itis, do we really want to be weighed down by the anger and grief that comes with being offended?
I was able to spend time with the kids during choir practice, have a friend visit afterwards, and have brownies for a late birthday cake. ^_^ (We weren't able to make a cake on my birthday.) Brownies coated with mint chocolate chips...yummy. And cow sprinkles. :D
You know how we're supposed to work, to prove ourselves worthy of good grades? And we can only earn those good grades (ideally) by learning from the teacher and applying it to our class and work? It's the same with salvation...and our Teacher wants to bless us all with salvation.
John 3:16-17
For God so loved the world that He gave His only Begotten Son...
Good verses; that's why they're used so much. If you want to read the whole thing, tell me. ^_^
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Life is hard, but it is life. It makes the joys so much more appreciated. Who appreciates the sweet without knowing the bitter? And who is truly worthy of the sweet if they haven't endured the bitter? That endurance of hardship means they'll be able to truly appreciate the sweet. It's hard, but it's worth it.

Jesus Christ never shirked His duties and the hardships in life. And Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ both completely understand our hardships. They love us. They are an ideal Father and elder Brother.

Love! Hugs.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Les Miserables
The Bishop is a pivotal character in the book and the play. He is the catalyst for Jean ValJean's reformation, and hence the whole story. The Bishop is kind and selfless; he seeks to do all he can to bring people closer to Jesus Christ and to be Christ-like himself. He doesn't care that ValJean is an ex-convict, only that he is someone who needs shelter for the night. He is able to put his self completely in the Lord's hands to do all he can for the Lord.
We are allowed to defend and protect ourselves from dangers in the world. "Trust in God, [and] lock your doors." But can you imagine the higher level of faith and Christ-like love, to forget yourself for God's children?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Fact of the day: One of the most common colorations you will see in horses is bay. A bay horse is brown with black points--black ear tips, lower legs, mane, and tail. And I think the nose...at least maybe.

A bay can have white markings on the face and legs, as well.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(from an article in Meridian)
President James E. Faust said, “When parents try to teach their children to avoid danger, it is no answer for parents to say to their children, ‘We are experienced and wise in the ways of the world, and we can get closer to the edge of the cliff than you.’ Parental hypocrisy can make children cynical and unbelieving of what they are taught in the home” (Ensign Oct. 2005, p. 3). We believe there is a direct application of this warning when it comes to fashion.
[...]
In his General Conference address a few weeks ago Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, speaking directly to the women and young women of the Church, said, “For you to fully claim Heavenly Father’s blessings and protection, we ask you to stay true to the standards of the gospel of Jesus Christ and not slavishly follow the whims of fads and fashions.
The Church will never deny your moral agency regarding what you should wear and exactly how you should look. But the Church will always declare standards and will always teach principles ... [O]ne of those principles is modesty. In the gospel of Jesus Christ, modesty in appearance is always in fashion. Our standards are not socially negotiable.” (General Conf. Oct. 2005)
At this same conference Young Women General President, Susan W. Tanner, said, “Modesty is more than a matter of avoiding revealing attire. It describes not only the altitude of hemlines and necklines but the attitude of our hearts.”
[...]
An inspiring concept to teach your daughters was given by former General Young Women President, Margaret Nadauld. She said, “Grateful daughters of God guard their bodies carefully, for they know they are the wellspring of life and they reverence life. They don’t uncover their bodies to find favor with the world. They walk in modesty to be in favor with their Father in Heaven. For they know He loves them dearly” (Ensign Nov. 2000).
[...]
In conclusion, help your daughters apply this final step of the Modesty Test: Look in the mirror and ask, “Would Heavenly Father be proud of me in this outfit?” If the answer is yes, then she can feel secure in buying it and wearing it. If there is the least bit of doubt, then she must follow her heart and not buy it or wear it. Apply this final step to your own purchases as well. Had this been applied by a woman we know who would never wear an immodest dress, but appeared at the community pool in a scanty bikini swim suit, this never would have happened. Modesty applies to swim wear as much as anything else we wear.
In her General Conference talk, Sister Tanner reminded us of this teaching of Joseph Smith: “We came to this earth that we might have a body and present it pure before God in the Celestial Kingdom.” (Oct. 2005) It is our experience that the majority of Latter-day Saint mothers are the example of women who are striving to achieve this purity and are helping their daughters do likewise. We hope our young women will look to these women for a righteous example, and find their own mothers among them.
David A. Bednar, “The Tender Mercies of the Lord,” Ensign, May 2005, 99
Now, the music for the various conference sessions had been determined many weeks before—and obviously long before my new call to serve. If, however, I had been invited to suggest an intermediate hymn for that particular session of the conference—a hymn that would have been both edifying and spiritually soothing for me and for the congregation before my first address in this Conference Center—I would have selected my favorite hymn, “Redeemer of Israel.” Tears filled my eyes as I stood with you to sing that stirring hymn of the Restoration.
Near the conclusion of the singing, to my mind came this verse from the Book of Mormon: “But behold, I, Nephi, will show unto you that the tender mercies of the Lord are over all those whom he hath chosen, because of their faith, to make them mighty even unto the power of deliverance” (1 Ne. 1:20).
All right, the book and the play are different. Not completely...but definitely different. I like the book more in some ways and less in some ways. Mostly more, perhaps. ^_^
The characters in the book are more human. In a play, they have much less time, and they took the characters and kinda simplified them. It's still a great play, especially if you don't want to read the very...long...book. Of course, I skipped a lot. It's the unabridged version. :S In some ways, the book's less simply-defined characters are better that way, in my opinion. In some ways not. I'll try to look at one character per post.
Let's start with the main character, Jean ValJean. In the play, once he is redeemed, he only really has one time where he really struggles with himself to do what's right--a point where he must give himself up to the police or allow another man to be arrested in his place.
In the book, he has two other times after that moment where he must choose to do what he wants to do, or what is right. In reading the book, it is easy to think, "Come on, isn't this overdoing it? He's a good guy, he's committed himself to doing what's right." At least, I did. But then again, these incidents are close together, but long after the first one mentioned. Also, I have felt times of similar difficult conflict. It isn't as dramatic as some of his situations (at least the first) but it is still important, essential, to my soul and well-being. To my salvation.
His deliberation over whether or not to let the police know that he is Jean ValJean, not the man wrongly arrested, is a lengthy section. For ValJean, it actually occupies days. But it was something I could relate to. "Is this what I should do? Well, what about this factor, though? Yes, that's right. Well, but maybe..." It is a personal crisis, to follow the light or to fall into darkness.
But ValJean keeps choosing the right. Not always. He isn't perfect. But in the most vital moments, he does. May we do the same and learn from him.
All good stories teach us about life in some way. How to live, why we do what we do, what is right and wrong, the consequences of both. "People need stories more than bread itself. They teach us how to live, and why." It is true.
Remember, Jesus Christ taught in parables. They were symbolic stories. Who could read the symbols? The spiritually ready.
Follow Him.
Alma 26:11-12
But Ammon said unto him: I do not boast in my own strength, nor in my own wisdom; but behold, my joy is full, yea, my heart is brim with joy, and I will rejoice in my God.
Yea, I know that I am nothing; as to my strength I am weak; therefore I will not boast of myself, but I will boast of my God, for in his strength I can do all things; yea, behold, many mighty miracles we have wrought in this land, for which we will praise his name forever.
The righteous are God's people in the end--but we are all His children, and He wants us all to be His people. It is our choice. Let us help each other, and seek and accept His help.
Fact of the day: Did you know that water has the power to break stones? Okay, water with heat or cold. Rocks--either wet or with water in them, I think--can explode if they get too hot. And stones with cracks in them can be forced apart by water that gets between the two sides, freezes and expands, then melts out...leaving a larger opening for more water to enter, to freeze in, to melt.... You get the idea. ^_^
   To my fellow United States citizens:
Have you heard about the Supreme Court nomination coming up? Please read the information here, check the sources if you think you should, and consider the petition. This nomination does sound like a potential danger.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Now on to the news. ^_^

Well, I haven't been on-line partly because we didn't have electricity at home for most of last week. It came back on on Sunday. ^_^ After church, there was no choir practice, and my brother and his family went on home. We stayed for something for a friend, a sweet young girl we're friends with. My brother called to tell us that the electricity was back. There was much rejoicing.

Then later that night, Mom and I were heading into town, and we ran into a deer. I'm sorry for the deer. I'm also sorry that the minivan was hurt. But I'm thankful that we and the dogs weren't hurt (and were ALL wearing seatbelts) and that the car behind us was able to avoid the second deer because the driver saw our brakelights when Mom slowed down after hitting the deer.

But we were kept safe, and of all the possible scenarios (including the heavy traffic and limited space on the interstate that made it impossible to avoid the deer) it was the best one. Only the deer and the minivan were hurt. We couldn't avoid the deer. We were going fast (not above the speed limit, but maybe faster than wise at night). Of all other involved living beings, none of us were hurt, including people in other cars. Thankfully, Mom had an airbag, too.

Praise to the Lord for keeping us in safety as we pass through this life.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Fact of the day: The festive day of Halloween was originally All Hallow's Eve, I believe, and maybe not that festiev. It was the "eve" of All Saints Day, November 1, when all the saints' spirits roamed the earth. Remember, somthing that is hallowed is consecrated, is sacred to God. Before the saints came, the evil beasties took their chance to terrorize people.
I'm not positive on all of that, and there were (and still are, very likely) cultures that had a festive day for the spirits that were about to pass to the next world, or to remember that dead. (Think of Cinco de Mayo.)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Happy, happy birthday! ^//^ I'm shameless. I'm also now a year older!

Glroy to God in the Highest, who loevs us, and given and shown us the way back to Him--Jesus Christ. Peace on Earth, good will to all.

That's just a good quote to remember. We have so little ability and power of our own, but in God, we can do all things. He is the source, the giver, of all that is good, including talents that we must use well and friends that help us.

Thanks to Cia-Chan for posting, even though you weren't feeling well. I hope you feel better, and I didn't mean to guilt an unwell and tired reader into posting! u.u I'm sorry. But thank you very much for commenting...if any of the above made sense.

Hugs and pocket-hugs for everyone, and feel-well hugs for Cia-Chan!

Les Miserables involves many wonderful, and not so wonderful, characters. Jean Valjean, "a convict from the chain-gang" and a spiritually redeemed, merciful man. His enemy, Javert, obsessed with justice to the absense of mercy. Cossette, Valjean's ward. Eponine, the daughter of cons who rises above her surroundings. Marius, Fantine, the threatening Thernardiers, and the ever-kind and faithful Bishop.

I'll write mroe later, if you guys want me to. Ta-ta, take care in reality and cyber-space. Remember, another "world" is only any good with this world as well. Otherwise, we lose ourselves and some very important things.

And also remember, Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ love you. Take care! Help your fellow man! (And I'll try harder to help mine, too!)

Fact of the day: Mixed dogs are great. They are said to show a hardier constitution than purebreds. When two different dog breeds are crossed, the puppies can have what's called "hybrid vigor". It depends on the quality of the breeding, of the mixed dogs and the purebreds.
