Volume 1:The Curse
Edward Elric changed the night he trapped his younger brother's spirit in the unfeeling steel of an ancient suit of armor. That night, Edward and Alphonse exploited the clandestine science of Alchemy to attempt the unthinkable- resurrect their dead mother. They failed, unleashing an alchemic reaction that ripped their bodies apart. Four years later, an expanding evil lurks behind the false face of freedom. With rebellion crushed, the State turns its eye to increasing its grip on the people by seizing a legendary artifact that would ensure complete domination and plunge the land into State controlled darkness. Now a lone State Alchemist combs the country for a single stone that could amplify his Alchemy. If successful he would control a power permitting him to restore the precious things that were lost. But it would also allow the State Military to senselessly obliterate countless more. The Alchemist is soon faced with the harsh truth that the power to create is but a breath away from the power to destroy, and that with each birth, death must follow. It is this burden that the young Alchemist bears. His name is Edward Elric. And he seeks the Philosopher's Stone.
Volume 2:Scarred Man of the East
He is a refugee, a loner from a land scarred with the wounds of war, tortured by memories of a happier time. His body is riddled with tattoos of alchemical symbols that allow him to use the ancient art for his murderous purpose.
Includes 4 episodes and 20 page art booklet.
Volume 3:Equivalent Exchange
The Fullmetal Alchemist, Edward Elric, is given his first assignment. He is to inspect the coalmines of Youswell, a task he believes to be Mustang’s attempt to deter his search for the Philosopher’s Stone. Ignoring direct orders Ed and Al take a detour to a popular tourist town hoping to uncover the smallest fragment of truth behind the Stone’s growing legend.
Volume 4:The Fall of Ishball
Ed and Al leave for the countryside to search for Doctor Marcoh, a State Alchemist who deserted during the Eastern Rebellion and is now a fugitive of the state. On the run from both Scar and the military, Doctor Marcoh confesses to the Elrics. A decade ago, State Alchemists were called into Ishbal to end a seven-year civil war. What followed was a wave of unspeakable atrocities that neither the Ishbalans, nor the State Alchemists who committed them, can forget.
Volume 5:The Cost of Living
The hobbled Elrics return to their childhood village for the first time in four years. As the Rockbells construct Ed's new limbs, the boys sift through the ashes they left behind. While Al comes to the fearful realization that his memories are fading, Ed visits his mother's grave, and both must redefine their view of family and home before returning to Central's library to research the work of Dr. Marcoh. Nothing could prepare Ed for the shock that is to come. Having just learned the Stone's secret ingredient, how can they reconcile their strong desires to fix their own bodies with the knowledge of its gruesome costs?
Volume 6:Captured Souls
While Al defends himself against the transmuted Barry the Chopper, Ed discovers more about the dark alchemic experiments deep within Lab Five. But the biggest threat of all may be Ed’s own morality, as he’s tempted with the ultimate power he’s been seeking for years. Hughes issues an order to allow Armstrong, Bloch, and Ross to investigate what’s going on inside the 5th laboratory. Now Ed sees that Tucker was hiding the fact that there were human prisoners involved in the making of the stone…and that Ed would have unknowingly killed them. But Lust has Al held hostage… forcing Ed to attempt the unthinkable. Meanwhile, Al’s recurring questions about his existence come to a boil. Was there ever an Alphonse Elric? Or are his memories and soul alchemically created lies?
Volume 7:Reunion on Yock Island
Ever since Ed and Al attempted human transmutation, they have desperately avoided one person: their childhood teacher, Izumi. Bearing dreadlocks, an iron will, and incredible alchemic skills, she is horrified that Ed and Al used her teachings to violate nature. Now she has caught them, and is shipping them back to her hometown for a frightening interrogation. Meanwhile, Lieutenant Colonel Hughes’ investigation of Lab Five leads him to a startling discovery of military corruption and conspiracy that could topple the entire national government - and put Hughes in considerable danger.
Volume 8:The Altar of Stone
As the Elric brothers are leaving Yock Island, a strange boy emerges from the foliage, with no memory of how he arrived. Inexplicably, he can perform alchemy without a transmutation circle. Even stranger, he can transmute his own body, merging with his surroundings! Meanwhile, the search for Scar gets a forward leap as a former military officer spots him in the southern slums.
Elsewhere, the amoral Lt. Colonel Archer makes his move for the mysterious wild boy, who he believes is a homunculus conspirator. Infuriated by the arrest, Izumi leaps into action, single-handedly attacking the military with her staggering alchemic power.
Volume 9:Pain and Lust
Al has been kidnapped. With time as the enemy, Major Armstrong must win one of the deadliest battles of his life and Ed is forced into a showdown with Greed to save Al. But nothing has prepared either Elric brother for what they’ll find should they get out alive.
Volume 10:Journey to Ishbal
Al prompts a heated brawl with Ed by questioning him about the direction of their mission for the first time. The half-snake, half-woman Marta then leads the two brothers to the ruins of Ishbal and reveals the devastating cause of the Ishbalan war.
Volume 11: Becomming the Stone
Edward faces his destiny and the burdens of his actions as chaos surrounding the quest for the Philosopher's Stone reaches full boil. Alliances shift and factions fracture when horrible secrets and undeniable truths glare in the light of day.
Volume 12: Truth Behind Truths
The quest for the Philosopher's Stone is wrought with madness. Soulless beings, half-man, half animals and armies driven by secret devils all mingle in the shadows. As the Elrics dig into the darkest realms of humanity, one thing is clear everything is about to change.
Volume 13: Brotherhood
At the end of destiny, where will peace be found? The brothers Elric will consider the answers that are left once the Philosopher’s Stone has guided their saga to its end. True sacrifice, the deep love of family, the cruel truths of life and death… these are the realities that will bring the Fullmetal Alchemist’s tale to a close.

Edward Elric, the older of the two brothers, is charactaristically short. But following the principles of equvalent trade, what he loses in height, he gains in his abilities as an alchemist. Edward becomes the youngest state alchemist in history, a prodigal genius. As all state alchemists have, he is given a codename, Full Metal Alchemist, rooting from his auto-mail (artificial metal) body, his arm and leg.
In order to recover his original body, along with his brother, he travels to find the philosopher's stone.
~ALPHONSE ELRIC~
Alphonse Elric is the younger brother to Edward. He too has a profound knack at alchemy, but is not a state alchemist, which allows him to do certain things that Edward cannot do.
Of the two brothers, Alphonse would be the kinder and more understanding of them. Through their trials and tribulations, he keeps his reckless brother out of too much trouble.
#WINRY ROCKBELL#
The auto-mail specialist and childhood friend of the Elric brothers, Winry lives with Aunt Pinako. She is the creator of Edward's auto-mail and its mechanic.
Orphaned by the death of her parents during a civil war, Winry stays with Pinako learning the tricks of the trade in terms of auto-mail.
She lives with her grandmother and pet dog in Resembool.
(ROY MUSTANG)
Roy Mustang is a state alchemist, specializing in flame alchemy. He has
achieved his rank from his prior achievements during the eastern Ishbal war.
His alchemy resides with the use of his fiber-synthetic gloves, that have a transmutation circle sewn into them.
At first glance, Roy is nothing more than a cocky man who would jump at the chance to see women in skirts, but in reality he is a determined person, who is not so easily defeatable.
&RIZA HAWKEYE&
Riza Hawkeye is Roy Mustang's subordinate, acting as his advisor and his aid.
Hawkeye is very skilled in the use of firearms. She is always calm and cool, and not easily perturbed by many things. However, she is secretly feared by her peers.
She is the only one of Mustang's subordinates that can talk back to him without any consequences. Perhaps it is because she has kept him in line on his steady rise through the ranks of the military.
%MAES HUGHES%
Lieutenant Colonel Maes Hughes is a solder belonging to the internal affairs branch of the military. Hughes and Mustang have been close friends for a long time and maintain a deep bond. Hughes has promised to help Mustang climb to the top of the military.
Even though he is often busy on missions, he is still a family man who is constantly thinking of his family. His family consists of his loving wife and daughter.
ALEX ARMSTRONG
Alex Louis Armstrong's large frame and quick footwork do not match to the appearance of an alchemist who possesses enormous destructive power coming from his knuckles. Many of his skills have been passed down for generations in the Armstrong family. Like all other Nationally Certified Alchemists, he is a Major in the military.
He is initially assigned to watch over and protect the Elric brothers.
Armstrong, extremely fond of his chiseled body, constantly searches for opportunities to flex and show off his body.
^JEAN HAVOC^
Jean Havoc is a second lieutenant under the command of Roy Mustang. Often seen with a stick of toabcco in his mouth, Havoc is known to be a very trustworthy and reliable person although he prefers to remain out of danger and behind a desk instead.
Imagine a world in which Alchemy is not only possible, but used frequently. Alchemy, though, is a science, and with all sciences there are laws that must be followed. Welcome to the anime, Full Metal Alchemist. The story begins about two brothers, Alphonse (left) and Edward (right) Elric. Ever since they were young they had practiced the science of alchemy. You follow their journey of being alchemists and their quest to regain that which they have lost.
Their father was a well recognized alchemist, which is probably where their knack for it comes from. However, when they were young their father left, and they remained in the care of their mother. One day their mother died, and in their innocence and ignorance, they attempted what was forbidden, human alchemy.
What happened next, they were obviously not prepared for, and in the aftermath the brothers lost more than just their mother. In the freak accident Alphonse loses his body, and in a moment of panic Edward ties his brother's soul to a piece of armor. Edward himself loses an arm and a leg, a costly reminder of what has happend.
The story begins and details the brother's journey to find a alchemy amplifier so that they may return to their normal bodies.
