Chapter 10

Izayoi spoke with Krad very often from the first time they’d met. First, it was out of reluctance, but now it was because she had found a confidant. They shared a sort of hatred; both of them despised Hadden. Izayoi hated him for killing the only people she’d ever loved. Krad hated him because of his strange enjoyment of watching the suffering of others.

“Either Otomaru’s rubbed off on him or the other way around.” Krad often said, mainly because of Otomaru’s sadistic nature being so similar to that of their boss. The two often went into the desert to train; after all, who better to spar with than another who has skills for battle. Krad fought with a broadsword, one with was almost as big as he was. He and Izayoi made odd battle partners. Sometimes, they would fight against the raiders, who tried to steal their supplies. The two always managed to repel the filthy invaders.

Of course, our other desert-bound heroes were not always so lucky. During Ian and Minoru’s trek to the Hunters’ camp, they found themselves fighting desperately for their lives against the raiders. They weren’t strong, but they were numerous, something which often swayed the battle.

“I’m glad they’re gone… I don’t think they’ll be coming back for a while.” Ian panted, wiping blood off of his forehead. He’d gotten a nasty cut, but he’d managed to heal it before it was contaminated by the endless sea of sand. Minoru grinned, and looked down through the dust storm. The Hunters’ compound was in sight, but it would probably take them another day to reach it, the way they were progressing. Ian told him they would just have to find another cave, and hope they would be able to last another day.

“Y’know, I think we might actually be able to get revenge.” Minoru grinned, looking over at Ian, “Hadden’s just a fat, saggy old man. I don’t think that the Hunters will be able to win. Even with their big army, they wouldn’t be able to stand up to our powers combined.” He chuckled lightly, and they continued on their journey.

After a few hours into the dusk, they found another cave. It was cool inside this one, and Ian sighed with relief. The heat of the desert was incredibly irritating, but at least it never lasted for too long after dark.

Tenji trained hard within the strange room that Hadden and Otomaru kept her in. Her powers had been enhanced by the occult ritual that had been performed; she now was able to fly without using her new wings or by moving her umbrella while holding it. Every slash, kick, punch and energy burst had been used in thought of killing Otomaru.

“If it hadn’t been for his stupid punishment,” Tenji huffed, “Izayoi would be alive, and I could apologize. Then things could go on as they had, and this stupid war would be over.” Alas, Tenji’s brief moment of optimism would be short lived. Otomaru had planned to keep the war going as long as possible by supplying Hadden with battle plans.

The pieces of the forgotten prophecy were all falling into place; the vital pieces assembling in the final frontier. The Hunters’ base, the very building where Hadden resided, was soon to become very important. Even though it was the epicenter of a war which had been started ages ago, it would now serve a new purpose.

The building was where the hunters and alters would meet their end.
