   Fake Wings, Chapter 12!
Well, here's Chapter 12! Hope you like it!

Chapter 12

Minoru and Ian finally finished their trek, the cold steel walls looking menacing before them. They’d passed an upturned grave; they must’ve already killed an Alter. They needed to save the remaining Alters who may still be alive. Unfortunately, they didn’t get the chance to liberate them. Just outside the gate, they were swarmed by a group of desert raiders. They carried spiked chains and some even had guns; they’d caught Minoru and Ian unawares and captured them.

The two were led to a camp a few miles away from the base, and thrust forward into a tent. Before them sat the youngest looking raider of them all. The raider wore a heavy metal helmet, and also wore camouflage clothing. When he looked up, he had very soft features, and looked rather effeminate. He made a hand gesture and the other raiders left.

“How come you two were locked out; lost yer keys?” The child rumbled, the reason he was their leader becoming evident, “or are you the Alters from the capital who survived?” His voice was effeminate as well, but the two older males said nothing. The child grinned and picked up a large, circular blade, commonly called a giant chakram. The two men gulped, and the child finally got an answer out of them.

“We’re alters,” Ian muttered, looking down at the fire, “we’re here to liberate the Alters they kidnapped and kill Hadden.” Something Ian had said must’ve pleased the child, as he lowered the chakram and held it by his side as though it was a mere toy. He grinned, and brushed a lock of green hair out of his yellow eyes. Then, he held out his hands, and nodded. Minoru and Ian just stared stupidly, unsure of what the child wanted. He groaned and rubbed his forehead, offering his hands again.

“Jeez, don’t you guys know how to shake hands?” The child grumbled, smiling when they shook his hands, “my name is Merope Pram Scarborough.” He took off his helmet, allowing his long green hair to spill out. In fact, Merope was a girl’s name; the raiders were lead by a little girl. She asked for their names, which they gladly gave. If a little girl her age led the raiders, it would probably be good to stay on her good side. Eventually, they began talking about the hunters, and how she’d become the leader of the raiders.

She explained that she was Hadden’s step-daughter, from his late wife Sophia. She had just been exiled, unlike her mother, who wasn’t so lucky. She’d made it her personal goal to kill Hadden as well. It seemed Hadden had made a lot of enemies; how he was still alive was mind boggling. Merope summoned her guards back, and told them she would be gone for a while.

“Where are you going?” Minoru asked stupidly, receiving a look from Merope that chilled him to the core. It was easy to see how she’d gained respect too.

“With you.” Merope said simply, “If you’re going to kill my step-dad, I’m in.” She grinned childishly, holding her obscenely large chakram by her side. Minoru would’ve objected, but he didn’t feel like seeing what she could do with her weapon. Telling them to follow her, she brought them out of her tent. The raiders saluted as they passed, making Minoru and Ian feel even smaller than the little girl who led them without a hint of fear.

“’Sides, I know all the ways to get into the base.” Merope grinned, pointing at the shadow of the base, “plus, I have some very useful powers.” She grinned and raised her hand, causing the sand to whip up around them. They thought she could manipulate the wind, but that was not so. She could manipulate the very earth and sand beneath their feet. The sand formed a little ball around her hand, and she smiled. When she noticed them staring, she stopped.

“Well? Are you gonna stand there gawking at me or are you going to come kill Hadden?” Merope grumbled, allowing the sand to break apart and sift onto the dunes. The two men nodded, and said no more as Merope led them through the desert storm; she said she’d whipped it up to create cover for them, but they didn’t believe her.

YAY NEW CHARACTER!! I like Merope; even though she didn't exist in the roleplay, she makes for an interesting addition. Comments please!
