Music trend thing fun!
Okay, so it's time I should follow the trend of posting about music and it's state today, also about Japanese music and the preference many people show to it solely because of it's Japanese...ness.... or something.. Sounds like a thesis statement gone wrong :)

Right. So, Semji, James, writ cutter, Transtic Nerve, and others among comment boxes, have been discussing music. I'll address the Semji/James thing first.

Music is the greatest thing on Earth, besides love, life, and possibly children I'm serious about this. One thing that has come up here is proposterous—that there is bad music. There is no such thing as definite bad music. There is music one might consider "bad", but that doesn't make it so in genereal. Good Charlotte is "bad", but only in my opinion, and that of others. It is not a solid fact. I sit here listening to Lauryn Hill, Radiohead, Coldplay, Junior Senior, Hot Hot Heat, The Flaming Lips, Public Enemy, Dir en Grey, Hound Dog, Spoon , Funkadelic, Parliament, James Brown, anything from Motown, Jimi, A Triebe Called Quest, Utada Hikaru, and all of the bands whoever reads this has heard me talk about. I love these artists. In my opinon, they're great, they're good, they're geniuses, they're amazing, I love them and they're music and they're attitude and they're opinions and everything.

These bands are not definetely "good". I've never met anyone who strongly dislikes any of these bands, but I know they exist out there, and to them they're "bad". One song, one band, one sound acnnot be bad and good at the same time. It is neither. It simply is one's opinion. People make statements like "he is a genius" or "that band sucks", and these statements are okay, because most people recognize these as an opinion.

Do you get the idea?

Now to Japanese music, etc.

Right now, on iTunes, the song playing is The Starry Sky, the ending theme song to Angelic Layer. I got this song because I really like it.Would I have found it had it not been for anime? No. Probably because it was the sole purpos eof the song to air as a theme song.

Now let's switch to MALICE MIZER. Would I have found this group had it not been for anime? I cannot say for sure. The way I got into anime was through an interest in modern Japanese culture, and anime strengthened this interest. I probably would have faded out of my interest, but I can' say that for sure. I was introduced to MALICE MIZER by Transtic Nerve's signature, dedicated to the drummer, and his location, MLICE MIZER Inc. .... I was introduced to TN through OB. I was introduced to OB by YYH. I was introduced to YYH by Adult swim. I was introduced to that by anime. And I was interested in anime because of modern Japanese cultrue. So yes, there's the connection... But it's along one, and in the middle is anime. If it weren't for aniume and manga, there would be FAR fewer fans of Japanese bands from other countries. Is it a bad thing to be introduced to Japanese bands through anime? No! Not if you genuinely enjoy the music! But for the sole purpose that it's Japanese, though you don't like the music that much? Well, I can't say that it's wrong, but I think it is. If you don't like th emusic bt you listen to it because it's Japanese and "japanese people and stuff is cool dawg", then it's wrong.

Now, if yoou have read wrist cutter's comment box, you'll be pointing an accusing finger at e and shouting "HYPOCRITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!" becasue in his comment box, I claim to be a proud person who likes Japanese music because it's japanese.. or something...

Does ANYONE know what drugs I was on when I typed that? I'm serious, WHAT THE FUCK?!?!?!?!!!? I hate it when people consider something cool because it's Japanese, withouyt looking at it...... I dislike a LOT of Japanese music and things, but I also like a lot of Japanese music and things. Let's face it though, Jpaanese people make a lot of music and stuff, it's natural to like some of it!!!!

So now you say "Where are you going with this? What's your point?" I'm simply trying to state that it's okay to be a "Japanese music fan" because, well, it's like saying you;re an american/british/chinese/icelandic music fan! It doesn't mean you are an obsessive freak about everything from that country, it means that some of the music you like is from there! Or something...

Now, Transtic Nerve makes a valid point—why do some people prefer Japanese Music from American, if not because it's Japanese? Most of it is based off of British and American music!! Ah, but it' is one of the highest music producing cou ntried IN THE WORLD!!!!!!!! Like the US! Wow! So it's gotta be doing the same thing as the US!

Here Transtic Nerve drops the bomb— POPULAR MUSIC IN JAPAN= DIVERSE!!!!!! Popular music involves many genres, it's easily accessible, and they wouldn't have gotten popular at they're musicif they wren't good at it!!!!!

This reminds me of another time like that... When there's a simple and obvious answer to something.. I was at an Aaron McGruder (Boondocks, anyone?) thing.. He was answering political questions. We were talking about the Gore Bush election... Here's how it goes (note: this takes place at Swarthmore College, so everyone there is a liberal democrat..):

MG: Okay, so, I voted for Nader! he's got it down, why not?

*Student puts hand up*

MG: Yes?

Student: Nader contributed to Gore's loss in Florida!

MG:There's a very simple reason why that's not true.

Another student in the background says at a kinda-but-not-=really-loud voice: "Gore won."

MG:(looks at student): GORE......WON...

It's that kinda simple....

sorry about the tangent and my random stuff that probably doesn't make since or contribute to all of these music convos.
