Big Day
I'm just going to preface this post by saying I can't freakin' wait for this day to be over!
There is a huge event going on today at the law school where I work. The Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court will be honored today. We're to expect 500-600 visitors and attendees for this event. It's also going to be televised through C-SPAN and other news networks. So, keep your eyes peeled, all you C-SPANers, you just might catch a rare glimpse o' the Grifter!
I said all of that to say that I might not be able to make it to some or all of your sites today. I think I've caught up with everyone on my list. If I left anyone out, I'll be back in tomorrow to make my rounds.
To those of you that commented on my last post, you are exactly the people who comment on the majority of my posts. Therefore, none of you were ever considered for the "cut" list. Also, for a select few of you that can only get on-line periodically due to work, school, illness or other legitimate reasons, you will not be cut either.
I have about 40+ people on my list and I've cut 5 so far. These people are either too overloaded with friends or don't have any real interest in getting to know me. Which is okay, I mean, I'm not gonna lose sleep over it. I also realize that not everyone comments on every single post I put up. Again, no sweat. I appreciate all of you who are my true friends and reason why My O has been a joy to be a part of.
Alright, enough o' the accalades and praise. I don't want you guys gettin' big heads.
Caio, all. |

Playing Catch up
As some of you might have figured, I've been playing catch-up with all of my visitations to your sites. Much to my shegrin, there are a few people on my list o' friends that never seem to visit me, even though I visit them regularly. Now, I'm not usually one to complain because I knoe how busy life can get. I've given these people ample time to reconnect and let me know they're still alive but, I received nothing. So, in the interest of fairness to the friends that are truly faithful, I am going to be trimming my list down a bit.
To all those who are first time visitors to the House of the Grifter, If you decide to add me, make sure you visit at least once a week. Otherwise don't make any promises. I'm sorry it has to be this way, but it does. I'm sure there are alot of you that agree with my statement. It gets old, doesn't it? Well, that's enough of that.
Thanks to all of those that voted for my poem on LadyLenaJade's site. I won first place! I'd never entered any of my work into a contest before. The other entries were very well done and I look forward to other works from them. Thank you again for your votes. I'll be sure and hoist my slick banner courtesy of LadyLenaJade.
It was an honor to participate, my Lady. *bows*
I put up another wallpaper this weekend. Some of you may have already seen it. It's similar to the Wing Zero wallie I did. This one features Gundam Deathscythe. Please stop by and have a look and let me know what you think. There are plans in the works to do the other three Gundams from the Wing series. So, if there are any fans of Heavy Arms, Nataku, or Sandrock, don't despair, your are coming soon.
That's all I've got, Late. |

Overwhelming Response to a Misunderstanding
After reading all of your comments, I must say I am deeply moved by your senserity and compassion. Truly, there can never be a replacement for friendships such as yours.
However, I must confess that my last post was not a farewell, but an outcry of frustration and release.
I apologize if I sent the wrong signals while waxing poeticly in the faint hope that the Lord would take pity upon me and make them all go away. They're still here, but I have gained some repreve.
Fear not dearest comrades, I, Grifter, shall not leave you nor forsake you for another. Again, my apologies for the misunderstanding.
I have a new wallpaper in the cue. I made it last night while Zealot (me wifey) and I were watching TV. It's called "Wing Zero- Reflections" It is a mech only wallie and features, you guessed it, Wing Zero.
I also have a poem on LadyLenaJade's site as part of her contest. Please stop by and cast a vote for your ol' pal Grif. It's a known work I've posted in the past called "To Be In Love". Some of you may remember it but, if not, stop by LadyLenaJade's site and refresh your memory.
That's it for today. Take it easy, all.

Casualties of War
The dust is slowly settling as a hush falls over the land. This lasts only for a short while, much to my shegrin. I am still running ammunition and supplies back and forth across enemy lines at my commanding officer's behest. My back is sore and my legs are weary, but I press on ever aware of the goal in my sights. I feel like a packing mule that's lost it's sherpa. Oh, my kingdom for another blissful summer.
Alas, it is for naught, for I am shackled to the careless whims and errant wishes of an unforgiving faculty and an impatient and baligerant student body.
Remember me, dear friends of the enchanted realm of The Otaku. Though this spirit shall pass to the great beyond and its shell commmitted to the ground, I pray my memory lives on in your heart of hearts.

For Whom the Bell Tolls
Well, it's that time again. Here at the law school where I'm gainfully employed, students and faculty have all began to converge on me in a frantic and needy wave of irritation. Though the spirit is strong, the body is becoming spongey and bruised. However, I shall perservere in one way or another.
This is the reason I have not visited anyone this week. It's been orientation for 1L's (first year law students) and new faculty.
I will be back to a normal, visit filled schedule next week. I know you are all very understanding but, it's my nature to be concerned about you guys and the goings on in your lives.
I look forward to visiting on a regular basis again soon.
I will have some new poems and stories for you so stay tuned for that.
Speaking of my work. Of the writings that I have posted thus far, which genre or type of story did you like best? Poetry of love, poetry of loss, upbeat random poetry, suspense, dramas and noirs or situational comedies?
Please tell me what you liked and why. You can be breif or long, I leave that to you.
Thanks for your feedback. *bows*

Reflections from a Friend.
It's been sometime since I have come to The O. I have fully enjoyed my time here and have met some very cool, charming, interesting and talented people. Now, mind you, I have not quite been here a year. In fact that doesn't happen until late October.
Since coming on-board and feeling comfortable enough to share my thoughts and literary works with you, I have often wondered what you are all like in person. What you look like, how you talk and what you would say or do if we were to meet one day by chance.
I've thought of it always as a chance meeting, never arranged. But, to sit down and dine with you all at a round table of sorts and discuss our lives and paths would be most fulfilling. To see how in love Lytjuh and Silver Eagle are. To see how incredibly contageous JD Person and SesshomaruMistres' personalities could be. To see first hand the true inner/outter beauty of HLW and the mastery of a pencil and paper from the talented hands of ElvesatemyRamen. To compare notes with my brothers and sisters of the Guild of Old School: Ranvangelion, Yensid and Bunraku. To spend a hilarity filled day with Lordsesshomaru, Edge-san and Cronomage. To go on a whirl-wind shopping spree with Jaguar or chill on the down low with Tomieharley and Kikyo27.
What a rich experience to spend a day with all of my friends both new and old. Such wishes only come true if one simply believes. Until that day comes to pass, I will simply keep in touch the only way that we all can.
Here's to you my friends.
Yours truly, always.

Home Stretch!
It's been a hellish week as I've been preparing for faculty to return. The following week gets even worse as student will then be returning. Such is the life of an IT guy.
I've been hit and miss on some of your sites. I go on whenever I can free up some time. I try to go at least a couple of times a week. I'm just sorry I can't go everyday like I used to. Bare with me, I appreciate the patients.
Thanks to those who commented on my last piece. I'm sorry if it was a bit confusing. When I wrote it, it was a Word Document. I wrote each part in a different style. Henry Brubaker's dialogue was in ariel regular. Officer Talgood's dialogue was in ariel bold. Where as the demon was done in ariel italics. I hope this didn't cause too much confusiion. Appearantly, these things don't copy over. I'm glad you guys enjoyed it.
I want to try to get some more wallpapers done this weekend. I have a small project to do in my home. I'm installing a lighting kit on my ceiling fan in the spare bedroom along with a couple o' dimmer switches in the dining room and kitchen. I just hope I don't shock myself. I don't need the smell o' deep fried Grifter permeating the house.
Anyway, I hope everyone has a great weekend.
Later. |

Brubaker’s 19th
I feel so numb. I have so much to do and so little time to do it. Why did I do this?
I should have been more careful, more prepared. It should have never come to this.
Well, no use going on about it. I must take care of this quickly. There mustn’t be any trace of what went on here. If they were to find out….C’Mon, Henry, focus. We’ve got a few hours before day break. Just concentrate on what we need to do here. Yes, there’s still time, isn’t there. I’ll need to get some rags and some soapy water. Good, take the initiative. That’s the Henry I know. Yes…I’ll get some plastic bags, as well. Yes, that should suffice. Do a real good job, now. We don’t need to raise anyone’s suspicions. Remember what I said would happen, Henry? You know what they’ll do if they find out.
No! That’s right; they’ll take her away and all of your equipment. You don’t want that, do you? Of course not. This is my life’s work and I won’t let anyone steal it away. That’s exactly what they’ll do. They’ll steal it Henry. You won’t have anything to do. If that happens, I’ll have to find someone else to work with. Your work will be ruined, Emily will be gone and you’ll have jack to show for it. I can’t lose my Emily. I won’t let those bastards take her. They can all go to hell! In due time, Henry, in due time.
There, that’s the last of it. Good and tidy. And the lines for the circle…are they gone? Yes, of course. Completely? I said yes. I did everything as you instructed. Besides, it’s not like we haven’t had to do this before. You’re right, Henry. Why did I ever doubt you?
I’d better dump this water, the sun’s coming up. You do that; I’ll go check on Emily. No! I mean, I can take care of her when I get back; no need to trouble yourself. As you wish.
Now, to find a proper area to dump this mess. I’ll just take this little short cut down to the river and…. Good morning, Dr. Brubaker. Officer Talgood, what are you…good morning, sir. I’m on the morning watch, making my rounds. What brings you out this early? I was just taking out some garbage and waste water. You’re a little far out to be dumping things like that. What’s in the bag? Oh just some old rags and some papers. Why don’t you just burn them in the incinerator like everyone else? Why indeed, Henry? You fool, I told you this would happen. You take far too many chances.
Well, I, they can’t be burned, they’re far too toxic, you know. I see, well, why not just send for the refuse collectors? They’ll take care of that mess. Get rid of him, Henry. Get rid of him or I will. That won’t be necessary. What won’t be necessary? Huh? Oh, uh, nothing, I was just thinking that I wouldn’t want to trouble them at this hour. Well, at least let me give you a hand with that. No, I can manage, thank you. Don’t fuck this up, Henry. We have a lot riding on this. Remember Emily. I know, damn you. I remember all about Emily. Emily? You mean Emily Kirschner, your late partner’s daughter? It’s a real shame about her. We never found the body. Wasn’t she working for you, Dr. Brubaker? No….Em-Emily Frost, a research student from the university. She interned for me when my partner, Dr. Kirschner past away. Yes, it’s a shame she wasn’t more careful around the bone saw, as well. Quiet, you. What was that? Nothing. Anyway, good day to you sir. You okay, Dr. Brubaker? Yes, yes, I’m fine. Here, let me take a bag or two for you. I said I’ll be fine, Officer Talgood, thank you. Really, it’s no trouble. Here, lemme just… I said no dammit! *Riiip…..Thunk.* Oh, now you’ve done it. You fool, you’ve lost it all. Oh my God is that Emily’s …*grk…* head? I…..I….uh… You’re fucked now, Henry my boy. Completely and utterly fucked.
Dr. Brubaker, you’re under arrest for the death of Emily Kirschner. No! NO!! You can’t do this….my work, my research will be destroyed. Let me go, damn you. I have to finish it. The other bodies won’t keep……! That’s right, Henry, you moron, keep talking. Why don’t you tell him about your late partner’s untimely demise while you’re at it? This is your entire fault you bastard. If you hadn’t told me to kill those people, I could have completed the experiments. My work would have been perfect. Don’t you get it, I needed twenty. All you had to do was give me twenty. Now I have to find some other freak with a chemistry set to do the one thing I asked you to do. There’s still time. I can still kill one more and then we can complete the stone and be wealthy. You fool; the stone is worthless to you. To me it’s worth more than life itself. I just needed you to do all the dirty work. All right, Dr. Brubaker, let’s go. Wha- what about him? You’re just going to let him walk away? Let who walk away? That lying sunuva bitch over there! Where?! The one and only person standing right there in front of us! There’s no one there. There’s no one any where. Just you, me, and the remains of poor Emily. But, he’s standing….right…there. Did you finally figure it out, Henry? I am neither alive nor dead. I’m just here to do the work of my master. Rather, get you to do it. Bravo, Dr. Brubaker. Nineteen dead and buried with only one to go. My God. I’m sure your not real high on his list. What have I done? Everything I ever wanted you to do and so much more. You’ll pay for this. No, Henry, you will. You’ll pay dearly. I’ll see you again, mark my works, you filthy bastard! I look forward to it. I’ll be waiting at gallows for you, my good doctor. My master and I have a nice spot all ready for you. So long, Henry.

Stalled on the Launch Pad.
My deepest apologies, dear friends. I didn't make it in to The O let alone the office. Actually, I was at work for about 3 hours on Monday when I became very ill. I left work doing 80 mph on the freeway (I wanted to get home before I lurched all over my truck). I made it home just in time.
Turns out I picked up a cootie or twelve during my trip. My poor wife was down with the same thing.
So that's why I've been MIA the last day and a half.
But I'm back on-line and ready to make some visits.
Just be patient as I'm gonna be a while getting to all of you.

A Triumphant Return
Great scott, how long has it been. I feel like Grifter-stilskin. Thanks for holding down the fort while I was gone. I gotta say, that was a very relaxing trip. I went and did and had fun doing it!
I'm back in the saddle again and should be back in tomorrow to visit all of your sites. I have a lot of catching up to do at work , so please be patient as I will get to all of you through out the week.
I say week because my friends list is the biggest it's ever been. Now, if I can get all of them to comment at least once a week, I'd pretty happy. Don't get me wrong, I'm thankful to those who comment regularly (you all know who you are).
I think I'll call you the "Magnificent Sixteen", or perhaps the "Faithful Sixteen". That's the most comments I've ever gotten in one post. It is to you guys I owe a great debt of thanks to.
I'm also happy to report that while I was away, I hit two milestones here in The Otaku. The first being my 600th site visit and the second is my 1000th wallpaper download! Not bad for only having nine wallpapers. If you haven't seen them, please stop by and take a gander and leave a comment if you wish.
All things considered, my week went well. I don't mind heading back to work, although, I'd rather take another vacation. When I was nearing the end of my trip, I didn't want to come home. Once I was on the plane coming back, I couldn't wait to get home. Funny how that goes, isn't it.
Time to wrap it up and get some laundry going. (Yes girls, the Grifter cooks, cleans and does laundry)
Remember, marriage is 50/50...always.
I look forward to visiting your sites.
Take care, y'all...errr...I mean, all.
