What Night May Bring - The Grifter
My mind dances as it wastes precious grains of sand. I toss to keep this reality in sync yet I slip further down the path. My eyes betray me to the quickening darkness as shrouds of silk envelope me. Twisting their shape to hold me down, I struggle to be free. It is folly to toil so, for they have me as their own. Though they wisk me off to grander times and places in folds of soft promises, he plans for me. He works his magics and plots so carefully and ensnares me in delusions of fear and heroics. I am quick to act with legs set deep in the slowing down of time. My pulse speeds and my strength grow immense. Eyes blaze aflame as rays of light fill them. Yet, I am bound to him and the secrets he reveals to me. I alone know the truth, for he keeps me to promise with an oath of sand and thread. This night moves quickly and this sinister apparition lays still. But soon he will come and take me once again to the places I love and loath. For adventures and horrors await us once light leaves the horizon. For Sleep comes for us all.
