Does anyone else here play Yu-Gi-Oh! at all? I have been playing since the 90s when they first came out in Japan and have been keeping up ever since. I always found the game interesting since it is deceptively "easy" at first glance (a lot of narrow-minded people calling it a "kid's game" when it is nothing of the sort), yet there is A LOT you can do in it which also requires a bit of thinking and strategizing on the player's part.

Sadly, the game has deteriorated A LOT in the TCG/Trading Card Game (english version). It's always coming down to things like "+1", "-1", or "1 for 1 advantage", or simply judging a card/Deck/etc based SOLELY on their effects on the surface without hardly ever thinking about how they could be used to be good. (I'd gladly take a "-1" or "-2" if that card/combo won me Duels). Also, many Decks used these days are based on OTK (One-Turn Kill), beatdown Decks focused on hitting your opponent with high ATK (Attack) monsters as fast as possible. So, it's more like games of chicken now rather than "Duels" since many of them rarely last more than 5-7 turns. Even when Konami introduced the Forbidden List (0 per Deck) alongside the Restricted (1 per Deck) and semi-restricted (2 per Deck) list, it rarely seems to make that big a difference (depending on what put gets put on and taken off) since people just go for whatever is/was the next best thing to use, and the cycle keeps continuing.

A lot of Duelists are hypocritical as well as many of the "best" cards used/were used today/before (old and new) were seen as "crap", "non-competitive", "lame", etc based solely on their effect and/or Decktype as a whole. Things like Six Samurai, Gladial Beast, Lightlords, Monarchs, Snipe Hunter, Spirit Reaper, Chaos Sorcerer, E. Hero, D. Hero (D. Hero Disc Guy and Diabolic Guy specifically), etc while some are STILL bashed on for trivial reasons like Divine Wrath. And people saying Normal Monsters automatically suck just because they have no effects of their own, and other monsters being bashed on for not having built-in protection?? pfft.

I try hard to keep my patience while continuing to experiment and try to discover uses for various cards, yet with the way the TCG is going and the way I see many Duelists on various message boards and forums, it's difficult to keep my cool while they keep putting down Duelists for using certain cards/Decktypes just because they're NOT the same, "competitive" cards/Decktypes that 98% of other "competitive" Duelists use. I, myself, have been the target of such bashing MANY times throughout the years, yet I still do quite well against them and a lot of the time, it is thanks to those very cards that said Duelists bash. I can't count the number times things like Divine Wrath and (previously bashed) Solemn Judgment, and such saved me back during the days when Chaos Emperor Dragon and Chaos Soldier were used all the time.

Yet, it seems despite ALL my reasoning to a lot of people, they just adamantly refuse to acknowledge any of those points with reasons that could be used against their so-called "best" cards too. They also seem to act like various cards will ALWAYS be removed from the field that turn if not the immediate next turn too (the excuse they constantly used for E. Hero Fusions, Equipment Cards, and such), like it'll have 100% of the time. Funny, then I guess the dozens and dozens of times my E. Hero Fusions, Equips, and other cards lasting 3-5+ turns was ALL a total fluke then? =\ *sigh*

Anyways, this is why I don't really try to go to tournaments anymore. Not only because like 95% of Decktypes will be virtually the same, give or take a few cards, but also because, stemming from that reason, it becomes far too predictable AND it's really just a game to see who can get their OTK out faster. Pretty much whoever wins the coin toss to see who goes first will most of the time. So, I usually keep more to myself, talking to others who have the same feelings about the game as I do (which is EXTREMELY few so far), talk about strategies with newer and older cards, Decktypes, the anime/manga, etc.

Anyways, feel free to comment. I ignore flames, though.
