Album Review: Antichrist Superstar
This thing is epic, pure and simple.
It's akin to a modern day Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, execpt insted of being trippy and comically surreal, it's violent, abrasive and hateful.
The album begins with the pseudo-live "Irresponsible Hate Anthem", it's hard and fast, traditional Manson staples, but the lyrics are so painfully cruel, it's almost as if Manson is trying to kill you with his music!
Part one of this LP,The Heirophant, is filled with familiar songs, "The Beatiful People" and "Tourniquet", but also has one of the higlights of the album, "Tied Up, Dried And Dead To The World", once you hit the words "Wake up/An' stop shaking/'Cause you're just wasting time..." you know this song is going to the reverse of a happy drug-trip hippie style song, it's harsh and really frightening at times.
Part two, Inauguration Of The Worm, is bizarre, almost every song has "worm" in the lyrics and the titles get bizarre here, "Cryptorchid", "Deformography", ans "Wormboy" being most obvious, most of the songs in this part are helplessly weird, "Cryptorchid" is a bizarre poem intercut with a moaning chorus and endless chanting to close it, "Mister Superstar" is a well-thought out sog about celebrity obbessed people and how far they'll go to get at theri fave star, as well as "Angel With The Scabbed Wings" which is an incoherent speed-rap-ish sequence that you'll need the lyrics to mildly understand and Inauguration closes with Kinderfeld, which means "Child battlefield", ick!
The final part, Disintegrator Rising, is so hopelessly upsetting, when you aren't offended by the racial slurs and self-loathing of "1996", your sobbing your brains out to "Man That You Fear", the album's closing song.
This album is a classic of modern music, it's defintely a must-buy for Manson fans that don't already have it, ten out of ten!
But I've got only one complaint, "Down In The Park"(From the Lunchbox EP) should have been on this, oh well, to further express my love of "Down In The Park", here are the lyrics,

Down in the park where the machmen meet
The machine and play kill by numbers
Down in the park with a friend called five
I was in a car crash or was it the war
But i never been quite the same
Little white lies like i was there

Come to tom-tom's the place to eat
Like it was built in one day
You can watch the humans trying to run
Oh look, there's a rape machine

I'd go outside if it'd look the other way
Wouldn't believe the things they do

Down in the park
Where the chant is death, death, death
Til' sun cries morning
Down in the park with friends of mine
We are not lovers, we are not romantics
We are here to serve you
Different face but the words never change
