A Feeling Never felt Before
Prologue, part 3

Surpisingly the inside of the cave was dry and warm. The stalagmites from the ceiling dripped no water, and the hard ground was baren of any snow. Though the boy kept walking deeper into the darkness, and the farther they walked, the warmer it became. The girl was even tempted to take off her mittens at this point when he stopped. She could barely see him now, for the darkness had engulfed them both. But he could see perfectly fine, as she saw, as he picked up an object with his left, stroked it in his hand and struck it with a rock in right. Sparks flew; the girl jumped back, afraid of the sparks, knowing they led to fire. But only a soft glow came forth from a small group of twigs and leaves, and the boy rested up against the wall of the cavern. Hands behind his head, he sighed, and looked over at her.

"You can sit, just don't touch it," he said bitterly, closing his eyes. She gave a slight huff; she knew that, what did he think she was, an idiot? She sat down and yawned, her eyelids feeling like weights as they pulled down against her face. She quickly rubbed her eyes; she didn't want to sleep yet, she wanted to know more about this boy, and this snow covered land they seemed to be in.

"Where...where are your family?" she asked, now taking her mittens and jacket off. The boy opened one eye and shrugged.

"Don't know, don't care," he replied, "you need to sleep, I'm not going to chat with you all night. There's a bed of grass over there, make use of it or I will!" He said annoyance in his voice, and throwing off his own cloak and using it as his own bed, and his scarf for a pillow. She got up, and tiptoed over to where he pointed, and sure enough there was a small bed of grass with is body impression in it. She smoothed out her grey dress and gently laid herself on it, not wanting to scatter the leaves.

Though his voice was rough, and his actions were...confusing to say the least, this stranger had helped her, without knowing who she was, and gave her his own bed. She smiled softly to herself, making a mental note never to forget this day, and if it was a dream, she was going to write it down as soon as she woke up.

Sleep consumed her quickly, the bed was much comfier than she had imagined, and she had felt as though she'd danced on death's door for too long.

As soon as he heard heavy breathing, the boy got up, and tredded softly over to this girl, this human. Her short, light brown hair framed her small face, and she seemed so innocent and weak.He sat down, and reached to touch her hair, but withdrew. He just sat there, and stared, wondering if this was how his sister looked as she slept.
****************
Time seemed like a race as the girl realized she was at the end of her trip, her fantasy. She knew where she was now, and she even saw her father's guards waiting at the border, looking for her. She heard the boy give a what meant to be a relieved sigh, but came out as a "damn!". She giggled sadly, and whizzed around to see her rescueer for one last time.

"Can I...Can I at least know your name?" she asked timidly. At that, she thought she saw the boy turn a slight shade of pink, but maybe it was just the cold.

"As if! And i don't want your name either!" he spat. She giggled, and walked over closer and cocked her head.

"Well, mister "no-name", thanks again!" she went on her tiptoes and gave a swift kiss on his cheek, smiling. "and if you want it or not, my name is--

"HATOKO." Hatoko's head jerked up at the sound of her name. She blushed furiously as she brushed her hair behind her ears and leaned back on her chair.

"Sorry, Sakyo-sama, simply dreaming again," she said, hoping the excuse would work. Sakyo grinned, taking a quick puff of his cigarette.

"It's good that you finally joined us, i believe you've been asleep for half of the meeting," Hatoko shrugged. She always slept during meetings; she glanced at the clock. But never for that long. She sighed happily, her dream coming over her like a wave. That day had been burned into her memory like a mark. Vivid as it was, she could still feel the bark of the trees, and the walls of the cavern. She could even remember the glassy appeal of the boy's crimson eyes, and his frizz of his black wet hair. That day she had also made another friend, a girl, of blue locks and of the same glassy eyes. She hadn't spoken to the girl in years, but she remembered them both as clearly as she saw the room around her.

"Hatoko, could you fetch Howl?" Sakyo asked. She nodded, and scooted from her chair. Before she danced on death's doorstep, now she remained in death's house.
