CHAPTER ONE: Kagomes tears

“Slow down!” Sango yelled after Kagome as she ran back to the well. “Where are you going?” “HOME!” Kagome yelled back. “I’m going home!” “Why?” “Because!” Kagome snapped, trying not to cry, and trying to forget what had happened just moments ago in the clearing. Sango wouldn’t understand. She’d only been there to see Inuyasha get sat, and Miroku yelling at her for not informing them that she was there. As Kagome leapt into the well, Sango followed her. When she got out, she tagged along after Kagome, following her to her room. A room that was all Kagome’s. No demons, no Miroku, and best of all, no Inuyasha. Kagome slammed the door hard, (right in Sango’s face) and collapsed on her bed, no longer holding back the tears. Sango waited a few seconds, and then knocked loudly. When Kagome didn’t open the door, she walked in on her crying friend. “Kagome, what-“Her words were cut off by a flood of Kagome’s.
“They were talking about girls. Inuyasha said, ‘I don’t suppose I could have both of them?’ and Miroku said, ‘Well, its one thing to have both, but another to keep it a secret. It might be harder then it sounds.’ So Inuyasha replies, ‘Oh well, I think I like Kik… hey, you’ve never mentioned who you like, anyway.’ Miroku looked a little embarrassed, but he told Inuyasha. It was so quiet, It could have been a mouse squeaking, and I would never have known what he said, but Inuyasha instantly shouted, ‘SANGO?! Why that w-“He started to say, but I yelled “SIT!” and that was all anyone could hear. After that Inuyasha started to yell at me, even though his face was buried in the ground, and Miroku started to yell at me to, and I ran off, and here I am.”
“Wow.” Sango mumbled. “I know! Inuyasha was about to say Kikyo! I just know it!” “…No, I mean ‘wow,’ Miroku likes me. He could probably have any woman he chose, and he likes me? Why am I so special?” Kagome gaped at her. "Oh my god. I just had an emotionally scarring moment, and all you can talk about is what Miroku said? I can’t believe you!" She folded her arms and turned her back to Sango. Then, sarcastically, "So, are you sleeping here, or are you going back to your beloved Miroku?" Sango sighed. "Of course I’m staying here, Kagome. I would never leave you like this." She sounded hurt. Kagome sighed, feeling a little guilty at snapping at her friend. "All right." She muttered. So the girls fell asleep side by side in Kagome’s bed, each with something to dream about; though the dreams were totally different.

CHAPTER TWO: Can't I Have Both?

*this chapter happens at the same time as the first chapter*

“Kagome! Wait!” Inuyasha yelled after the fleeting figures that were Kagome and Sango. Quieter this time, he said “Kagome… I didn’t mean it like that…” “You really didn’t? It sure sounded like you did.” Came a sarcastic voice from behind. “Shut up Miroku! Was I asking you?” “No you weren’t. Bye the way, what was the question again?” Miroku said, twice as sarcastic. Both guys sat down and lapsed into silence. Finally Inuyasha spoke. “… Where are Shippo and Kilala?” “… I don’t know. They’re probably goofing off somewhere.” Silence again. Then, “I can’t believe-“both of them began, and stopped. “You go ahead.” Miroku offered. “I can’t believe Kagome heard all that.” Inuyasha muttered. “Now she’ll probably tell Sango. I’m worried I’m emotionally scarring Kagome… so… you’re worried about…?” “Sango finding out.” Miroku finished for him. “And yes, I know it’s odd, but I liked it right where we were. A little grope here and there… (Hah. Little. That’s a laugh. Inuyasha thought.) The sound of me getting slapped in the face, or whacked upside the head…” “Yeah, getting whacked upside the head sounds like fun.” Inuyasha said dully. “Well, at least I let my girl know I like her in other ways than, ‘I love you Kagome.’ ‘I love you Kikyo.’ Over and over and-“ “Well at least I told Kagome and Kikyo I loved them, and didn’t just grab their butts.” He almost laughed out loud just thinking about it. “I have my own way of letting them know.” Both guys snapped at once. They glared at each other with eyes that read, ‘stop doing what I do!’ At that moment Shippo and Kilala walked up to them, but stopped in their tracks as they saw the looks on their faces. “Shippo.” Inuyasha said. “Kilala.” Miroku said. “Time for bed.” They said in one voice. They both stalked off to opposite sides of the clearing. As they lay down, they tried to process what was going on.
"I can’t believe-" *Miroku thought*

"That all this trouble-" *Inuyasha thought*

"Was caused-" *Miroku thought*

"By a few little words" *They thought together*

CHAPTER THREE: Back Together...i think

The next morning Kagome and Sango woke up fairly early and decided to go back to check on the boys & Kilala. “I hope Inuyasha didn’t pick on Shippo to much…” Kagome thought out loud. “I’m sure he’s fine, Kagome.” Sango’s voice reassured her. “I suppose you’re right.” Kagome agreed, beginning to pack her already over-packed backpack. ‘Homework, food, blah blah blah…” she thought to herself. Sango sat down on the bed and waited patiently. Suddenly without warning, she leapt up and began tearing through Kagome’s closet. “Got anything good in here?? Ooooh… this is cute!! Can I have it? Please Kagome-chan?” Kagome turned from her packing to see what Sango was holding up. It was an extremely cute-looking yellow top with a floral design and hippy-style sleeves. “Hmmm…” Kagome mumbled. She turned to the closet and started flipping through it. “…on one condition.” Sango was about to argue, but - “You take this perfectly matched skirt too.” Sango squealed in excitement and hugged Kagome warmly before grabbing the skirt and top and running in the bathroom to change. Kagome smiled to herself, glad to make her best friend happy. She remembered buying those clothes, hoping to impress Inuyasha with them… but Inuyasha was the type who hardly noticed those kinds of things. ‘Hey, you changed out of your old weird clothes and now you’re wearing new weird clothes’, was what he had said. True, he had been in a bad mood that day, but he could have at least pretended he was complimenting her. She sighed and decided that at least now Sango could do with them what she could not. ‘Miroku is the kind of guy who notices stuff like that. I wish Inuyasha could be like that sometimes…’ she sighed again. All of a sudden Sango burst into the room, still in her cheerful state. “How do I look?” Kagome looked her up and down, deciding the skirt was as perfectly matched as she had thought. It was dark, navy blue with a plaid yellow patch on the left side, nicely coordinated with the yellow blouse. Kagome smiled. “I look's great on you! I knew it would.” ‘Miroku’ll be impressed.’ She thought to herself. “Thanks so much, Kagome!” Sango hugged her again. Kagome said something that was inaudible, but whatever it was it must have been funny because Sango started cracking up. She was in such a good mood that Kagome started giggling too, and then they both caught the giggles, sending them into a huge fit of laughter, which refused to stop for a good hour while they sat on her floor trying to move or speak.

*On the other side of the well*

“Where could those stupid girls be?” Inuyasha said, trying to sound like he didn’t care, when he obviously did. “Don’t ask me, I don’t know either.” Miroku snapped, still sounding pissed from the night before. Inuyasha sighed. “Look Miroku, it’s not my fault Sango knows you like her, so don’t take it out on me, okay?” Miroku nodded, neglecting to point out that it was his fault.

A few minutes later Kagome and Sango climbed out of the well. They looked around for a moment before noticing the boys taking a doze in and under the God Tree. (Though Inuyasha’s ears were still roving around like radar.) The girls smiled. “Let’s not wake them.” Kagome whispered quietly. Sango merely nodded and started walking over to them. Kagome watched her until she had snuggled up next to Miroku, then she walked over and attempted to climb the tree to sit with Inuyasha, and not fall or wake anyone up, either. It took her a few tries, but she managed to climb up without killing herself. She sighed and made herself comfortable next to Inuyasha.
The next morning Sango was the first to wake up. She noticed she had moved just enough so that she had Miroku’s arm wrapped around her waist, but… unfortunately, Miroku had spoiled that by resting his hand on her butt. Deciding not to smack him, she instead peeled his hand off and went to go take a bath; she wanted to look her best in her new clothes.
When she got out of the spring she had her new clothes on, pulling at them to make sure they looked perfect. She got back to the God Tree and saw that everyone was up. She blushed a little when she noticed Miroku eyeing her; he had obviously noticed her new clothes. “You… um… you look… I mean, you know, you look… good.” Miroku stammered, face on fire. “-thanks.” Sango mumbled, her face a soft rosy color, partially from the spring and partially from blushing; making her look even more appealing in Miroku’s eyes. Of course, this made him blush even more, if that was possible. Kagome giggled; she was surprised he didn’t just explode. “Why, in all the hells-” Inuyasha snapped, walking up from behind Kagome. “Don't you guys just tell each other you're in love with each other? And can you hurry up so we can move on?” Kagome gave him the most evil look she possibly could, before – “sit.” SPLAT. “Mmph! Mmm mmph Mmmm mmmph?” “What was that?” Kagome said dangerously. Inuyasha didn’t take the hint. “I said ‘ouch, what was that for?’” “Kagome turned to Sango and Miroku, who seemed a bit dazed at such an accusation as Inuyasha had made. Kagome smiled a fake smile. “Excuse us for a moment please?” “…sure…” Kagome grabbed Inuyasha by the hair and dragged him off. “Ow ow ow ow ow!! Enough already!” “What is your problem!? They were obviously having a romantic moment, and if you, mister matchmaker, hadn’t butt in, they probably would be admitting their feelings for each other! What do you have to say for yourself?!” “…that really hurt you know.” Kagome blew up right in his face. “Well I sure HOPE it did, you insensitive jerk, cause you deserve it!!!” Miroku tapped Kagome on the shoulder. “Um… you know we’ve been standing behind you this whole time… right?” “Yeah, we were right here the whole – I do NOT like him, you mutt!” Sango screamed at Inuyasha. “Oh yeah, well I’m not exactly begging to get together with you, either, Sango!” Miroku snapped back. (Sango completely missed the hurt in his voice) “So you just touch my butt for the fun of it, is that it, lecher!?” She screeched back, but it was too late; he was already stalking to the other side of the field. “Fine, don’t listen; not like I care anyway.” Sango grumbled to herself, as she put distance between them as well. “Nice job, Inuyasha. I sure hope you’re proud of yourself.” Kagome said, far too calmly. “Well you’re the one that started it.” “ME!? What the hell did I do?” “If you hadn’t been listening in on other people’s conversations, then,” “Right, sure, like your pushing didn’t help!” Kagome yelled at Inuyasha’s back; he was stamping over to join Miroku. “…I know you heard me.” A tear stained the ground as Kagome slowly walked over to Sango.

CHAPTER FOUR: Sango's Tears

"...so...Sango..." "What?" Sango snapped, still mad. Kagome sighed. "Look Sango, I didn't do anything to you, and I wish you would stop taking your anger out on me." Sango sighed as well and turned to Kagome. Kagome was surprised to see her crying. "But I... I..." Kagome held out her arms. Sango threw herself forward, completely broke down, and cried like a little girl in Kagome's arms.
"I'm better now. Thanks Kagome." Sango smiled at her best friend gratefully. Kagome grinned. "Hey, what are friends for, huh?" Sango grinned too. "Right. So anyway... you wanted to ask me something earlier?" Kagome nodded, remembering her question. "Well see... if you don't mind... um... are you in love with Miroku?" Then quickly, "Of course, if you don't want to answer-" Sango interrupted. "No, no it's okay..." She took a deep breath and let it out slowly. She thought for a moment, then... "Well, it's like this. I do... at least I think I do." Sango covered her eyes with her hand as though she had a headache. "It's just... whenever someone suggests it out loud... I get so embarassed and confused, that I get angry. And getting angry makes me yell, and Miroku is easy to yell at, so-" "Yeah, I get it. You yell at him and run for it." Sango flinched. "Yeah... that about hits the nail on the head." She and Kagome chuckled sadly. Sango stopped laughing abruptly. "Is that normal?" "Huh?" "Is it normal to yell at someone you lo- ... think you might love...?”

~Kagome's Flashbacks~

"Inuyasha, sit." *BAM*
"Sit boy." *SPLAT*
"Sit!" *MOOSH*
"Inuyasha, SIT!!" "wahh!" *CRASH*... *dust settles over Inuyasha doing a face plant*

~End of Flashbacks~

"...Kagome? Are you listening to me?" "Huh, wahh? Oh... um, yeah, I think... I think it's fairly normal..." Sango gave her a funny look. "Well, it’s late." She said, looking at the sky. "We slept in later than we planned, and we took so long getting ready at your house... and then we slept for a while here... and we've been through so much... I think we should get some rest." Kagome nodded and lay down on the ground, looking at the slowly darkening sky. She thought of Inuyasha, and slowly fell into a fitful sleep...

CHAPTER FIVE: Miroku's Anger

*note: happens at same time as Chapter four*

Miroku was next to exploding; very strange for him, being as he was always so calm. "What is your problem!? Inuyasha no Baka, (Inuyasha you idiot) do you not know how to keep your nose out of other people's business!? Explain yourself, please." Struggling not to laugh at Miroku's polite anger, Inuyasha replied thoughtlessly as always. "Well, you should tell her and you know it. It's your fault for telling me anyway." Miroku closed his eyes and mouthed counting to ten. "Look, Inuyasha. I know you're just trying to help, (at this point he had a very strong urge to say 'but cut it out!' However, he resisted it) but I'll tell Sango when I think she's ready. ...and... when I'm ready too." He smiled sadly. "When I talk to her, see her face... my brain just turns to mush, and I can barely think of anything to say to her." "Do you feel like that when you grab her butt, too?" Inuyasha inquired 'innocently'. Miroku went off again. "NO, I DON'T FEEL LIKE THAT WHEN I GRAB HER BUTT!!" He breathed hard for a few moments. "I guess that's just an escape route." Inuyasha gave him a funny look. "Well, I do that when things get to romantic for me cause well... I get scared." "...what of?" Inuyasha wondered. Miroku missed the emotion in his voice, missed the fact that he wanted to know so he could have his own question answered. He sighed. "I don't know... I guess it just happens when you like a girl that much..." Inuyasha nodded.
Inuyasha's flashback.
"Heh, if you really think I'm mushy and romantic enough for a flashback, you are in serious need of therapy."
End of Flashback
Miroku interrupted his thoughts. "But... how can I even be sure I... that I'm in love with her?" Inuyasha grinned. "If you're not sure, then I am, so rest assured, you are." Miroku smiled weakly. "Thanks." Inuyasha waved his arms in front of his face. "Whoa, whoa. That doesn't mean you can get all mushy and brotherly on me. It's late, so let’s get some sleep, ok?" Miroku nodded and lay down; staring at the same sky Sango was staring at... with that in mind he fell soundly asleep...

CHAPTER SIX: The Next Morning...

The next morning Sango woke up to a strange feeling of closeness. She looked up to discover that Miroku and Kagome had got up and switched places during the night. (Coincidence? or conspiracy?) So instead of Kagome and the comfort of her friendship, it was the strangely good feeling of Miroku's arm around her shoulder. And the main thing that made her smile so warmly at him, was the fact that his hand remained where it was supposed to; not butt - hand action. Sango gently reached up and brushed his face with her fingertips. He twitched the littlest bit before relaxing again and making a small sound of contentment. Sango smiled again, snuggled into his embrace, and drifted off into a comfortable, contented sleep...

~on the other side of the clearing~

Inuyasha blinked. His eyes fluttered open, and he lifted his head just a little to see almost the identical picture Sango had seen. Except that Kagome was in his lap. He smiled, gently touched her cheek; she sneezed. He grinned. But then she snuggled into his lap, making herself comfortable... she was so beautiful... why hadn't he noticed it before? Her hair, like a wave of darkness, black as the ocean, flowing over his legs... her lips so rosy and soft looking... he couldn't help it. Barely aware of what he was doing, he leaned over and gently placed a kiss on her lips. She stirred slightly; he froze. But she was just moving a little. Inuyasha sighed in relief and decided never to do that again unless she was awake. (And of course if she didn't mind) He fell asleep soon after.

CHAPTER SEVEN: Sango Reveals Her Feelings

By 10:00 the next morning everyone was awake and had eaten their breakfast. (Shippo and Kilala had ran off somewhere already) Now they were all sitting a round and attempting to make conversation. However, they were finding it more difficult than usual. "...Hey, um, Inuyasha." Inuyasha turned to Kagome to see her looking awkward. "I have to... um... go, talk to Kaide. Do you want to come along?" Inuyasha looked at her kind of funny, but nodded slowly. "...yeah, alright." He got up and walked off with her as she waved to Sango and gave her a small wink. Sango grinned and winked back. She then turned to Miroku and blushed, seeing him fidgeting with his clothing. 'Wow, does it make him this nervous to be alone with me?' she wondered, feeling proud in spite of herself. "...so..." She began. "...ahem... well, uh..." Miroku finished. "Well, this is rather awkward." they both whispered to themselves. "Well, um, Miroku..." Sango took the first risk. 'Here goes nothing' she thought. "I just wanted to tell you that I think I... I... I might be in love with you. I think I love you, Miroku." She stared down at her hands, awaiting his reply. 'Answer me please' she thought desperately. What would she do if he just ignored her confession? Acted like she had never mentioned it? What if- 'She loves me? She does. She really, truly, is in love with me.' The feeling swept over Miroku like a wave. "S-Sango I... I love you too..." Sango looked up at him quickly, and wiped away a tear. "R-really? You do? You really mean it?" "Yes. Yes, I mean it!" Miroku cried, happy to at last be sure. "I'm so happy!" Sango whispered. And she meant it straight from the heart. "But..." She faltered. "...why are you always flirting with other girls and asking them to bear your children?" "Because I do need an heir, Sango. You know that. And I wanted to ask you, but it seemed hopeless. You didn't seem to even want to be near me-" "But Miroku, I do! Ever since I got to know you, I realized I wanted to be near you... always... ...you just... made me jealous, I guess. When you flirted with other girls, I mean." "Well, I try to flirt with you too, but you slap me. How come?" Sango groaned. "You mean when you grab my butt?" Miroku blushed. She sure knew how to make it blunt. "Well... yeah..." "Because a girl can be in love and still value her dignity, you know." "Oh." Miroku nodded in understanding. "Alright. So, do you want to meet up with the others or hang around here for a while?" "Let's stay here. I'd like to talk some more... if that's okay with you..." Miroku grinned. "Sounds good." And right away they got started talking about their love for each other and how it had bloomed.

CHAPTER EIGHT: Inuyasha and Kagome Reveal their feelings for one another

*note: happens at same time as Chapter Seven*

"...Hey, um, Inuyasha." Inuyasha turned to Kagome to see her looking awkward. "I have to... um... go, talk to Kaide. Do you want to come along?" Inuyasha looked at her kind of funny, but nodded slowly. "...yeah, alright." He got up and walked off with her...
a ways away from the clearing...
"So, what is it you need to talk to Kaide about?" Inuyasha questioned. Kagome snorted. "Yeah, right, I suddenly have to talk to Kaide. I just wanted to give Miroku and Sango some alone-time is all. Maybe by now they're talking about how they feel for eachother." 'What about how we feel for each other?' Inuyasha thought disappointedly. He turned to Kagome to ask where they were going to go if not to Kaide's house, but he noticed the expression on her face. "What?" Suddenly realization hit and he quickly covered his mouth. 'SHIT! I said that outloud!' He thought, in shock. "Wh-what... what did you just say?" "N-nothing... I was just, I mean I...nothing, okay!" "No, I'm pretty sure it was something." She looked at him for a moment, considering. Suddenly she smiled, wove her arms about his neck, and pulled him into a deep kiss. The world froze. Nothing else existed; just him and her, and the wonderful feeling that this was right. Momentarily she let go (though it seemed like a million wonderful lifetimes...) and smiled at him. "...any good?" "Good? Are you kidding?" Kagome looked hurt. "...that bad, huh?" "No, n-not bad, it was... it was... the most beautiful and right thing I'd ever felt. Words can't describe it." Kagome stared. She never thought any words so romantic exsisted in him. "You mean it?" "Yeah, I do." "Better than mine, Inuyasha?" Said a voice. And Kikyo stepped out from behind a tree.
Inuyasha and Kagome stared. "What do you want, wench?" Inuyasha snarled. Kikyo looked taken aback. "But Inuyasha, don't you want to be with me anymore?" Inuyasha considered for about 2 seconds. On the 3rd second he looked at Kagome. He smiled. "No Kikyo. I really don't. I'm sorry. And... I'm sorry... about your death, and about Naraku. But when you're gone, you're gone, and there's nothing I can do to change that." Kikyo opened her mouth. "And no, I'm not going to throw my life away and go to hell with you." Her last attempt having failed, Kikyo smiled sadly. "I guess... you really mean it." Inuyasha nodded. "Well then... goodbye, Inuyasha. And good luck with... that." Kagome snorted angrily. Kikyo turned abrubtly and walked painfully away, never to see her Inuyasha again.
Kagome looked up at Inuyasha with the most stupendous look of adoration he'd ever seen; he almost melted. "You really mean it Inuyasha? You'd really rather be with me?" Inuyasha nodded. "I've made my choice. I mean... it isn't like she'll be wiped from my mind as though she never existed, but... I know now that I love you more." Kagome's face shined as she threw her arms around him and heard that 'uh...' sound he made that she loved. But then he hugged her back, and she loved that even more. Suddenly Inuyasha let go of Kagome and grabbed her hand instead. She looked up in surprise. Was it just her or where his eyes... softer? "Let's head back." "Right." Kagome agreed.
back at the clearing, Sango and Miroku were laying on their backs and looking at the sky as they lightly held eachother's hands. Inuyasha and Kagome lay down next to them, never breaking their grip on each other. That's where they fell asleep, after many long hours of catching-up and talking; and they held each other’s hands and dreamed all night long.
