Otakuites' adventures.
You may have seen me post updates about RPGs on OtakuBoards before. I enjoyed pointing out the RPGs that I feel are worthy of a read, or that are at least doing something interesting or unique. So, I thought I'd take this opportunity to mention a number of currently-active RPGs that you guys should check out, should you have a little time to kill somewhere along the line. ~_^
The Legend of Zelda: Prophecy of Fate
Created by Zidargh
There have been a couple of Zelda RPGs lately, but I believe that Zidargh's is probably the most well written in recent memory.
The first post really introduces you to the story in a nice way; it eases you in, with a combination of fairly sharp writing and a little humor. It feels lighthearted but serious at the same time. I also like Zidargh's use of dialogue, I think it's pretty fitting.
Zidargh managed to get some pretty significant OB heavyweights into this RPG, so that alone makes it worth a look. So far, everyone seems to be hitting their stride with the story and characters. Good job.
Laeth E'Thae
Created by Arcadia
This RPG has become something of a star on OtakuBoards -- and rightfully so. I've mentioned it before, but I feel I should mention it again. It's definitely worthy of your time, as a reader.
I have admittedly fallen behind in my reading for this RPG, but I was looking at it today, and I realized that I must get back into it. Put simply, it is beautifully written. The world has a tangible feel about it, as a result of the participants' cohesion and focus. Beautiful descriptions play a big role here(some of the buildings described in the RPG sound truly spectacular; they managed to create some pretty vivid imagery in my mind's eye).
Characters also play a role. Specifically, I find the dialogue to be very good here. This is one area that often lets an RPG down for me -- the discussions between characters feel unnatural or forced. In general, this isn't a problem in Laeth E'Thae. Things come across smoothly, as they should. Go read it.
Digimon: Original Digidestined
Created by Blanko
There are a few reasons why this RPG stands out for me. First and foremost, it's big. These days, it can be difficult to establish an RPG's footprint in Adventure Arena. That is, a lot of RPGs die well before their time. I'm sure that any of us who have created more than one RPG know this all too well.
It is also true that cetain topics lend themselves to certain levels of post quality. For example, I've rarely seen a well-written Dragon Ball RPG in Adventure Arena. Not to say that there aren't any, but on balance, they're hard to find.
On the other hand, Digimon has a fine tradition at OB. Although I pretty much know nothing about the series, I am completely aware of the various (wonderful) fan fictions (Tamers v2?) as well as some of the better RPGs.
Original Digidestined is worthy of a mention both because of the commitment from its participants, as well as the fact that it's quite well written in general. Many of the participants are relatively new, in terms of their RPing career on OB. So to see them make such a good start is fantastic. This is the sort of thing I notice, and it helps me to choose people in my own RPGs.
There are more RPGs that are worthy of note...but I don't feel like I can type anymore. Perhaps, if you have a suggestion, you could put links in my comment box? If you've seen something that you really enjoyed reading (but that I've not mentioned -- and I'm sure there are plenty), feel free to make comments about 'em. It's great to recognize RPGs, especially those created by people who often aren't recognized as they should be.
EDIT: I did write two paragraphs on .hack//TRUTH, but for some reason, myOtaku simply ignored one of the paragraphs and it wouldn't show up. I have no idea why. So...go visit the RPG anyway. ~_^
EDIT 2: My Kill Adam 2 wallpaper was accepted to theOtaku.com. You can click the link below to check it out, if you're interested. ~_^
