Advertisements
Advertisements, we see it every day and you’d think we would have gotten sick of it by now, but no advertisers just have a way to make the products they sell appeal to their consumers by using methods such as the bandwagon, appealing to our senses, appealing to a certain crowd and off course the media.
One of the first and best strategies that advertisers use to sell their products is the bandwagon “hey everyone is doing it, why not you?” We don’t want to feel left out so we hop on the bandwagon and do what our peers and doing. Why is this? Well it’s simple we don’t want to feel left out. We want to be part of the crowd, not off in a corner somewhere alone. Since the majority is a group and groups tend to follow one another and do what others are doing it makes the methodology of the bandwagon one of the best forms of advertisement.
Advertisers also know how to sell their stuff by appealing to a certain crowd. For instance let’s take tennis shoes, there are different brands and every little kid wants the latest shoes. A boy 7 years old saw his friend with new Nike shoes, and then another kid got the shoes because the last kid had it, before you know it every boy wants those shoes because the last model will make him “not cool.” It works with anything that appeals to the majority of consumers. With women it’s Gucci because we all want to be “chic.” The advertisers understand want a certain crowd will like and then they focus on selling their products to the majority of that crowd.
Aside from “jumping on the bandwagon, advertisers can also get us, the consumers to buy their products by appealing to our senses. By appealing to the senses they can get us to buy that “delicious mouth watering delectable candy bar.” By appealing to our senses advertisers are able to focus on the crowd who loves chocolate or loves a certain products because it looks and sounds so good.
The bandwagon, appealing to our senses, and appealing to a certain crowd are great ways of selling products. But there is one that beats them all and it’s called the media. Whether it’s the television, movies or radio the media can makes us want things that we’ve never even thought off. Let’s take the TV for instance, in television were given at least ten commercials within a period of thirty minutes. Now when you start seeing these commercials one after another you’re bound to do one of the things that were advertised. Let’s say it a Burger King commercial for a double egg and bacon cheeseburger, when you see it enough you start thinking “hey that does sound good, I should try it.” The media is such a good way for advertisers to sell their products because practically everyone ones a TV, radio and goes to the movies so there is a wide range of consumers for the advertisers to sell their products to. Also, the media is such a good advertising strategy because it incorporates other advertising techniques. If one person sees a nice pair of shoes on a Payless commercial and decided to buy them and then I saw the person wearing those shoes and I liked it, I’d ask them where they got it from so I could get a pair. With that you have people jumping on the bandwagon and getting those shoes. The only reason that the person got those shoes in the first place was because it appealed to their senses on the commercial and the commercial was appealing to a crowd, in this case women or people who go to Payless and love shoes.
Whether it’s the media, a method of bandwagon, appealing to a certain crowd and their senses, advertisers have many strategies to get us to buy their products and guess what? It works!
