   An exercise in futility?

Downloading a 14.8 MB file over a 42.6 Kbps dialup connection. I started it a little over an hour ago and it's 44% done. Hopefully it will be done by 2:00 pm. That's when I have to leave for work.

Last night at work was pretty boring. It was really quiet for a Monday. I hope tonight isn't so bad. I also hope they got the old printer hooked up to the one computer again. The new one they got was very slow.

Well, I think I'm gonna go find something to eat now and let this thing continue downloading. Hopefully, it will be done in a decent amount of time.

Additional: I gave up on the download. It was nowhere near done downloading at 1:45 pm. I brought my laptop along so I can get on the wireless to get Windows Update to fully update itself. Maybe I can try that download while here. Yeah...

As for the printer. They took the new one away and put an old inkjet printer on. When I got here, it didn't work at all. The boss's son came in and got it working... but it has no ink! Wahahaha!!!!

   *stares off into space*

Sunday was a rarity. I had the day off. Hooray. I did nothing of any importance. Truly. I didn't have the ambition to do anything. Actually, it's still Sunday and I'm still doing nothing. I've been online for about 3.5 hours now. I'm getting a little bored with this thing. There's some other stuff I want to do online, but the connection speed is such that I can go and wander around the house for a while as pages load. It's very frustrating.

Saturday night at work was a pain. It was busy. I had to work with the little psycho. Fortunately, he was away from the desk for a couple hours and I was able to function without him. He's more of an impediment than a help sometimes. I have to work next weekend with him again. On Friday night, I do have another person capable of working the desk there, so that will be all right. Saturday, however, will be just him & me. I hate that place with such a passion. I wish I could find a different job.... *sigh*

Well, I think I'm going to go see if I can get anywhere with other stuff on the compy here. Maybe I will give up around midnight. Dead Zone is on then...

   I really shouldn't sit here at this time of day...

I'm sitting in our dining room playing around here. I'm facing the window, which faces to the east. Well, it's about 7:25 pm and the sun is going down. It has illuminated the side of the church next door to the point of painful to look at. I'm such an idiot sometimes....

Well, I didn't get much sleep last night and now I'm feeling it. Being the night owl that I am, I stayed up until around 2:00 or 2:30 this morning. The phone rang at 5:30! One of the girls at work was sick and the manager told her to call me to go to work at 7:00. I politely declined, saying I didn't feel too good either. I would have been totally useless with about 3 hours of sleep. On top of that, my lungs would have shut down because the manager, sales director, two maintenance men, AND the morning driver all smoke! I developed asthma not long after starting to work there. I can't handle cigarette smoke at all anymore. I couldn't take it before that!

So... after that call, it took me two hours to fall asleep again. Then the phone rang again at 10:30. Someone was trying to get ahold of my mother. *sigh* So, I gave up on sleep and started my day.

My brother, who works nights, also got up at that time and we decided to go to SUX after we both showered and so on. I had to drive because I was the one that had gotten a small amount of sleep.

So, now I'm sitting here, playing around with some of my Kanji flash cards while downloading stuff slowly on the old dialup. At least that's keeping the phone from ringing. Heh heh heh.

   Smile... it makes people wonder what you're up to.

I'm in a better mood than yesterday. That's in spite of staying up until 4:00 am!

Clarification of yesterday's post: I work in a motel. We have a contract with one of the railroad lines so their workers have a place to stay. A couple of them were rather drunk last night when checking in. It was not fun. As for stupidity... I don't think anyone is immune to it. We had another incredibly stupid woman call repeatedly tonight and neither of us behind the desk wanted to deal with her.

Today: the hot weather returns! Ick! I caved in to peer pressure and stayed in my khaki shorts with my work shirt instead of the long black pants! I am contemplating getting another pair of shorts or two that I can wear to work. Yay! I hope it rains tonight. We need it bad.

Tomorrow & Friday: days off. Laundry will be done as usual. Running around with my brother will also happen. It should be fun.

Well, it's Monday. Whoopee. I'm at work as usual. It's actually kind of quiet right now. I find that incredibly unusual. There is one thing I could do that actually involves doing something related to my job, but as it's only 5:00 pm, I think I can wait a bit before doing it. I have 6 hours left of my shift! Arrrgh!

The weather let up on us a little bit. It's not quite as warm as it has been the last couple days. We're supposed to get rain today, but it's very clear out there. *sigh* We need rain bad!

So, now I'm gonna check another thing out before heading off to do some work and eat. I apologize for not visiting lately. I've been busy with work over the weekend and just haven't had time to do anything. Sorry!!! *bows deeply, hitting head on floor*

   Once again... I don't like this...

It's hot and windy. I hate hot and windy. Make it stop.

I always laugh when people say they'd rather have hot weather than cold weather. I'd rather have cold weather. One can put on more clothes to keep warm. When it's too hot, one can take off only so much clothing before they're arrested for indecent exposure!

It's very quiet tonight. I don't know if I can handle it. It is actually a welcome relief after the busy night last night.

So now, I believe I'm gonna go check one other thing or two online before wandering off and doing some actual work.

   Bleh

Well, it's hot outside. Really hot. We're talkin' 90+ degrees withouttaking into consideration the heat index thanks to the humidity. It sucks.

I enjoyed my two days off (Thursday and Friday). Thursday, of course, was the usual stuff. I had pretty much decided to go online Friday in the afternoon while waiting for my brother to wake up. (He works nights, but had Friday night off, too.) He surprised me by getting up around 12:30 in the afternoon, so we were able to go to SUX earlier than I had thought we'd be going. We went to see the new Fantastic Four movie. It's fun. It's got a good comic book fight in it. I must admit that the Silver Surfer has never been one of my favorite characters, but he's really cool in this movie.

After the movie, we went to the mall and I put my name down for a copy of the 7th Harry Potter book. I figured I better do that because of it being the last one. I want to be sure to get one. I think I'll reread the others before it comes out. After the mall, we went to Target and I got the extended cut DVD for Ghost Rider. That movie was so much fun. I wanted to see it in the theater a second time, but missed it. So, now I have the special edition on DVD that I can watch whenever I want... along with both versions of The Punisher and other fun stuff! Whee!!!

Well, I think it's time for me to hit just a couple more things here before I shut the beasty down and go to work. < sarcasm >Yippee... work... busy weekend. Hot. I can't wait. < /sarcasm >

   Grr... Stupid dialup.

I am fast losing interest in the internet tonight. I have what can be considered the fastest connection speed we can ever get and it's still taking eons for stuff to load. I know I said I'd try to visit sites tonight (Thursday), but this is really getting to me. I'm gonna do another thing or two online and then head off to do something else that doesn't involve the internet. Sorry, everyone.

   Finally!

It's raining!!!! Finally!!! After I don't know how many forecasts saying we're going to have severe thunderstorms and rain over the past couple weeks, it's finally raining!

Now there's big mud puddles around.
