Oh, if I had a rocket launcher....

Friday evening. Hopefully I will have this done in time for it to still post on Friday.

I'm glad you liked my poem from yesterday. I didn't feel like posting anything, but had written that the other night and it seemed to be the thing to post. I don't usually write poetry like that. Most of the time my poetry is really horrible. If you count out each of them, they're all haiku. That's my forte for poetry. However, I just counted the second line of the first one and it's lacking a syllable. Ooops.

Yesterday was pretty uneventful. Had to work. Everyone at work was surprised to see my haircut. One of the railroaders was completely stunned into silence! He just stood with his mouth open for a little bit. Still have a few others that haven't seen the new do yet. Heh heh heh.

Today was day off. I did a load of laundry. Yippee. Went to Sioux City with my brother. I didn't buy anything but food. I was naughty the other day and bought a magazine and a couple manga books. I didn't really see anything else I wanted. Tonight I've been contemplating a PBI reprogramming of the desktop computer. In case you're wondering, PBI = Painful Blunt Instrument. I struggled with it for an hour and finally went downstairs and grabbed the laptop so I could get online while the beast is running Ad-Aware. It's been almost an hour & it's still running!!! Only found 6 Critical Objects so far. *sigh*

Well... I think I'm going to go searching for a picture. After I finish reading my email. *looks at clock on desk* Nope... too late for a Friday post. *giggle*

Abandoned houses

Like ghosts of the past,
They stand alone and wait
For time to claim them.

Dust devils swirl and
Shutters bang noisily on
Faded wooden walls.

Shattered glass eyes
Stare out at the open sky.
The world moves away.

Life has passed them by.
No longer are they needed,
The ghosts of the past.

Hey, man, lookit me! I'm rockin' out! I'm on the radio!

Here it is Wednesday night and I am gonna try to keep this short 'cause I need to get offline to make a phone call here.

I bought airtime for my cellphone yesterday and am trying to redeem it. I live in Cell Phone Hell! It's been about 15 minutes and the airtime isn't there yet. I'm gonna have to call customer service. Grr.

Well, today's main events were taking down the Christmas decorations and a haircut. The house looks so empty without the big tree in the living room.

As for the haircut... well, I can't wait for reactions from the girls at work! I had a lot cut off and have a completely different style now. I can't even put it into a ponytail anymore!! I've got layers back. I haven't had layers like this in years. At the top, it's about 4 or 5 inches long & at the back bottom it's only around an inch long. So different. It is a little shorter than I expected, but I kinda like it now. I'd show you before & after pictures, but I don't want to scare you. *grin*

Oh... a folder fell off a shelf in this room earlier this evening and I went through it a little while ago. I found this picture. The "children" in the stands are more than just slightly disturbing...

Well, I think I'm gonna call that customer service number now.

   Observations

Well. The wireless is being better tonight, but it's dropping out on me with alarming frequency. I may have to do something else here....

Anyhoo. The subject tonight is "Observations." I maybe should state some that I've had today, eh?

  • I saw about 9 deer as I drove to Sioux City. They were so cute. They were on a hill by the highway and came closer to the road and watched me go by. I'm just happy that they stayed off the road!

  • I'm sick of fog. I have lost count of how many foggy days there have been in the past few weeks. It looked like someone spilled orange juice on the map on the Weather Channel this morning.

  • It's easier to drive in fog at night than in the daytime. At night, I can see the headlights of other cars. On the way to Sioux City I counted cars without headlights on. I had around 30 by the time I hit the edge of town. It was up to 53 by the time I hit Target. It shot up to 83 by the time I got to the mall. I stopped counting after that because the fog had lifted somewhat.

  • Some people are incredibly stupid when it comes to yielding for ambulances. I was on my way to the railyard and there was an ambulance coming toward me on the street I was on. We had the red light, but the ambulance has right of way. Some idiot on the cross street flew through the green light right in front of the ambulance!!

  • El Fredo's has excellent lasagna!

  • I almost went into withdrawal symptoms tonight. Both pop machines were out of Coke!!! I had to get some at a convenience store when I went out on a run.

Well, that's about it for tonight. I'm gonna find something else to do here that may or may not involve a computer.

   Why am I so tired?

Well, it's Monday evening, 7:30-ish, and I am very tired. I can't figure out why. I didn't want to get out of bed this morning, that's for sure, but I thought I slept pretty well. Hmm...

My oldest brother & his wife and his son & girlfriend were over to the house this morning. It was kind of fun to just sit around and talk. But then I had to go to work. Blah.

My laptop and the wireless connection aren't cooperating tonight, so I'm on the glacially slow desk computers. I'm doing some writing. There's some more of my main story in this notebook. I could type some of it, I suppose, but then I'd have to save it on my flash drive and that would mean getting up and getting the thing. However, I would like to go get a drink of my soda, and I'd need to get up to do that, too. I think I'll get the drink, but not the flash drive. Ha! I'm selectively lazy!

Mmmm...the pause that refreshes!

The current thing I'm writing has potential. I'm not sure where I'm going to go with it, but it should go somewhere. I may or may not post it here. Don't make me think!!!!!

Sorry about that. My brain cell is malfunctioning. It may be because of the residual fumes from the varnish that the restaurant people used yesterday.

Well, off to find other, more speedy things to do. These computers are so slow...

   Happy New Year!!!

Well, here it is... 2006. Are we all thrilled or what?

I didn't do much of anything yesterday/last night. Like I predicted, my brother & I went to Sioux City and ran around for a while. We were home by 6:00 pm. Then we talked all night. Just after midnight the parentals came upstairs and wished us Happy New Year and then went to bed. I went to my room and watched TV for a while then lost consciousness around 1:40 am. Such an exciting night.

So, here I am at work and it's not incredibly busy. Typical Sunday night. The only interesting thing is that the restaurant people varnished the wall they put up earlier in the week, so now it stinks in here!!!!

I gotta follow up on something that I posted about the other night: the smelly drunk guy. He was a big pain in the arse!! He got a little argumentative with me later when I wouldn't take him to his house to get some clothes. We told him about 8 times that we shuttle only to the airport or the casino and he just wouldn't listen. Oh well... stupid drunk people....

And now a comment on a comment: zero li enna, at least Council Bluffs has Omaha attached to it. Sioux City has only South Sioux City and North Sioux City attached to it and there's even less in those two places to do than in Sioux City!!!

Well, I wanna finish the rest of my sandwich now. Then I'll have to find something interesting to do. If I get stuck here due to weather, I'll try to get caught up on guestbook signings. Whee....

   It's now New Year's Eve!

Yep. The clock says it's after midnight so that makes it officially New Year's Eve. I got online rather late tonight, so I missed posting Friday's events on Friday's date.

My day consisted of nothing much. I watched TV a lot and wrote a little... very little. I actually got a little caught up in doing some research for the story that I may have to do more digging into. I am trying to get the timeline straightened out for my story. I suddenly got it into my head that I need to find out exactly when some things happened so I can justify in my mind that things are happening at the correct time in the story.

That was the afternoon. The evening was spent goofing off with my brother. We do that rather well.

Well, I probably won't post again until next year! We haven't quite figured out what we're gonna do for New Year's Eve yet. I know we'll probably go to Sioux City, but after that... who knows?

So, in closing, I hope you all have a great New Year!!!

   Hoopla!!!!!

The date: Thursday, 29 December, 2005
The time: 8:59 pm CST
The place: behind the front desk of the Quality Inn, Sioux City IA
The mood: just chillin'

I decided to go through my guestbook tonight and make sure I got back to everyone. I started at the first ones to sign and got through a few of them and decided I should do it later. I was using Lotus 1-2-3 to "catalog" the list. I am so used to using Excel that I can't figure out what I'm doing. Why do I do stuff like this? I guess it's something to keep my brain functioning at a weird level.

I have Friday and Saturday nights off!!!! I don't have to work New Year's Eve!!! Woohoo!!!! I feel sorry for April, though. She's got to work with the airhead of the staff that night. I don't have any big plans for the night, however. Just not working is reason to celebrate.

Oofah!!! A guy just walked through the lobby and smelled so strongly of beer that my eyes started to burn.

Well... now what to do? Maybe read.... Maybe write. I dunno. "Just chillin'" is such a hard mood to be in. *insert maniacal giggle here*

Will this be posted for Wednesday or Thursday?

Wednesday night. If I type real fast, this post will make it before the day changes.

My day consisted of doing very little. I didn't have to work and I didn't want to go to Sioux City with the parents. So... I stayed home and read a bunch of manga! That's about the extent of the excitement for me.

Well, I think I'll keep this one short and go work on updating my fiction site.

   Whatever...

Another thrill-a-minute day in my life. Here I am at work and have achieved a state of boredom. *sigh*

I got the wireless working again. I don't know what the problem was this time, but it's now functional once again. Sometimes this thing truly mystifies me.

I think I had the title of my book incorrect the other day when I said what I got for Christmas. It's Images from the Floating World. I may have said "Islands." I read the first chapter in it this morning. Very interesting thus far.

Well, I think I'm gonna go find something interesting to do. I don't quite know what yet.
