   This space intentionally left blank

Sunday is fast winding down

Well, today's excitement was virutally non-existent. My brother and I played Pokemon Pinball at each other. We each have a copy of it and were occupying space in the living room playing it. I scored over 583 million on one game. All the others sucked.

I did do a little writing on my story today. First time in a couple weeks. I just haven't had the creative urge lately. That's partially why it took so long to do that picture of Aoshi. Speaking of which, I'm still not happy with it... I guess I don't really care for how the markers look.... Ah, there's just so much that I could pick apart with that picture, but I won't. I'm just happy that a few of you liked it.

I am feeling a little mixed up right now. I guess being unemployed for 14 months is getting to me. I am starting to get that feeling that I'm unemployable again. So, don't be suprised to find some really short, frustrated posts in the next few weeks. I'm a mixed up Kitsune again.

That's all I have to say on the subject.

Once again...massively bored.... not hungry, though.

Saturday night's all right for fighting...

Today was not terribly exciting. My brother & I went to Sioux City as usual. He got the brakes worked on on his car. Fortunately, Culver's and Wal-mart are both within walking distance of the place where he got the brakes done or we'd've been bored silly in the waiting room and also very hungry. After the brakes were done, we went grocery shopping. Yippee. Food!

After we got home, my brother went up to his room and took a nap. I completed the picture I started working on yesterday. I finally got the picture that I threw away twice done! Yay me! I did some experimenting with my super stinky markers, so it's actually in color. I'm not sure if I'm entirely happy with how it turned out. It's up in the fanart now, so go and check it if you dare.

I think that's about it for the excitement of my day.

Close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades..... and atom bombs.

Friday night in the wilds of northwestern Iowa.

Well, my day was pretty uneventful. I got up, ate breakfast, took a bath, got dressed, walked down to the post office to get the mail, came home, watched TV, started working on that picture again, ate lunch, watched a little more TV, was surprised by my brother getting up a lot earlier than expected, waited while he did his shower, wandered around town here with him, went to Sioux City, did a mall crawl, went to a auto repair place to ask about brake job for brother's car, went to Wal-mart, ate at KFC, wandered around Target for a while, came home, yakked with my brother for a while, got online, read email while chatting with three people at the same time, and now I'm posting. Dang! That was one long sentence!

I suppose I could explain last night's snack a little more. I think someone asked about what type of bread I used. It was wheat bread. Just about any type of bread could be used, however, I don't think that any that has onion or other spices would be very good. I prefer either wheat or 12 grain bread for my applesauce/bread snack. The applesauce that I prefer is unsweetened. I've been getting the stuff that is carried by HyVee, our local grocery chain. I get those little individual serving cup thingies and about half of one of them is good for a fairly thick coating of applesauce on the bread. I don't fold over the bread or anything. If I wasn't out of applesauce, I'd do another one up and take a picture for you guys.

Well, this post sure turned out bizarre. I apologize for not hitting sites the past couple of nights. I've been having time constraint issues again... along with massive impatience with the computer...and my life.

   Massively bored.....and slightly hungry.

Thursday....

*takes time to post between snacking on pieces of bread with applesauce all over them*

Yes, today I was bored. Pretty much all day. I briefly considered drawing something... then left the sketchbook & pencil up here in the office and went downstairs, where I found my writing stuff. I picked it up and looked at it for a little while, then put it down again and played Gameboy instead.

After watching a show about the Russian submarine Kursk, I came up here to do some jobhunting or java.... ended up playing solitaire and then running McAfee antivirus. The machine is virus free!

Well... I have another piece of bread waiting for me.... must eat snack....

Life is a placebo masquerading as a simile....

Wednesday night and this is what I saw earlier:

... but without the red circle and letters, of course.

So, if I'm excited by a nice round number like 180,000... it must not have been a terribly thrilling day.

It was outrageously nice out again. Temperature a little above yesterday's, which meant we were in the mid 70s again. I wish it would stay like this the rest of the summer...

So, in honor of the nice weather, which is probably going to end really soon, I post another part of the story. Enjoy!

“I still don’t know just what it is that Samantha is looking for,” Murphy said. He and Midori were sitting on a rock at the shore watching Samantha as she waded looking for shells. “But I do know this, if she doesn’t find this mysterious boy soon, I’m taking her back to Yokohama and putting her on a ship back to America.”

“You care for her very much, don’t you, Murphy-san,” Midori said. It wasn’t a question.

“Yes, even though I’ve known her for about two months. She’s my little sister’s youngest child and I feel that I’d be letting her mother down if anything happened to her.”

“But she feels just as strongly about her purpose here in Japan.”

“Yes, and that’s probably why I won’t put her on a ship if she doesn’t find that boy soon.” Murphy stopped talking and watched the waves lapping at the shore. “She has the same stubborn streak that I do. It’s… What is she doing?” He pointed at Samantha, who was looking up at something only she could see.

“Midori shaded her eyes against the sun. “It looks as if she’s speaking to someone.”

“You’re right, it does.” He got up and started out to where Sam was. “Hey, Sam,” he called. “What’s wrong?”

Samantha stood and looked at her uncle and then back at something it seemed only she could see. “No, wait!” she said to whatever she had been looking at. Then to her uncle, she said, “You scared him off! Now he’s running.” With those words she chased off after the silver boy.

“Sam, wait,” Murphy called. “What is wrong? Who are you talking to?” It was to no avail, for Samantha was running after something only she could see.

“Hey, wait,” Samantha called after the silver boy. She could hear
Murphy and Midori calling after her from the beach.

Hikaru was confused. He could remember being at the funeral and then the pulling sensation. Shortly after that he found himself at the beach facing a strange yellow-haired boy. The boy started to speak to him and he realized that the boy was actually a girl. A strange foreign girl. Where had he seen her before? Then a man on the beach started to yell, and that was when Hikaru ran and the girl ran after.

He ran back into town through the marketplace. Instinctively he ran to the dojo. Still the girl followed him. She had kept up with him and was yelling after him in that strange tongue. People in town were unsure what to make of this foreigner running past them yelling at nothing. Many muttered disapproval and some young mothers pulled their children close.

Hikaru stopped outside the dojo. He remembered it was no longer his home. The girl stopped nearby and caught her breath. Hikaru watched her with mild interest. She was dressed as a boy and had her hair short to complete the illusion. She was leaning against the wall of the dojo watching him. She smiled and said something he couldn’t understand. For some reason, he felt safe with this girl, and he wished he could talk to her.

The foreign man caught up with them, followed by a Japanese woman. Hikaru wanted to run, but the girl reached for his arm to stop him. Neither of them was quite prepared for the fact that she could actually touch him. They looked at the place where her hand rested on his arm and then at each other. She smiled again and squeezed his arm.

Murphy was a little out of breath as he caught up to Samantha. “What is wrong with you? Why did you go running off, Sam?”

“Uncle Pat, I found him,” Sam said. “I followed him from the beach after you scared him.”

“What are you talking about? There’s no one here.” Murphy felt Sam’s forehead. “You’re not running a fever, but I think you should lie down a while. You’ve been so worked up about this boy. Let’s go back to the inn and get something to eat. It’s almost suppertime.”

“I don’t want to lie down. Don’t you understand? I’ve found him. He’s right here.”

“Samantha, that’s enough. There’s no one there. You’ve been under a lot of strain and you need to rest.” He held out his hand. “Come along now, it’s time to go back to the inn.”

Samantha knew she wasn’t going to be able to convince her uncle that the boy was there. “Fine,” she said. “I’ll go back to the inn. Midori, how do you say ‘Come with me’?” Midori told her, and Sam held her hand out to Hikaru and slowly repeated, “Issho ni kite kudasai.”

Hikaru took her hand and followed her to the inn.
***

The evening after the funeral, Nakamura sat alone in the dining area of the inn. He had told Ashida and Yonaha that he wanted to be alone and they understood. For once, Ashida actually obeyed his orders and did not try to dig up anymore about what had happened at the funeral. Nakamura was beginning to have some doubts about Ashida’s interest in his grandson.

The large youth that worked at the inn brought over his food. Nakamura could see that the boy was concerned about Hikaru. He wished he had some words to say to the boy to comfort him, but Hikaru’s collapse had worried him as well. He thanked the boy for his meal and began to eat. A few minutes later, when he saw the boy was not busy, he called him over.

“Yes, sir, what can I do for you?” Satsuo said.

“Do you have a moment?” Nakamura asked.

“Yes, sir.”

“Please, have a seat.” Nakamura indicated the chair across from him. “Let’s talk a while. I know you’re friends with my grandson. What is your name?”

“Satsuo, sir,” he said. He looked around to make sure no one needed him and then sat down across from Nakamura. “Yes, Hikaru is my friend.”

Nakamura smiled. “I can see that you’re very concerned about him. How long have you known him?” He took a drink of tea and pushed a bit of rice around the plate.

“All my life, sir. He stayed with us for a while when we were very young. I don’t really remember how old we were. I remember Hikaru-kun cried a lot.”

“Where were his parents and Takeda-san?”

“I don’t know. My father may know, but I can’t say for sure.”

“But why was he crying?”

Satsuo shrugged. “I don’t know, sir. I just remember him crying. That’s my earliest memory of him. Mother says I awes the one that got him to stop crying. She said I was his protector.”

Nakamura mused about the absence of Hikaru’s parents. That was something he would have to ask Takeda about, if he could get to talk to him again. “Has Hikaru always been small? He looked so small and weak at the funeral.”

Satsuo smiled. “Yes, he’s always been small, but don’t call him weak. Hikaru is not weak.”

“So he’s not weak, that’s good to hear. He must have collapsed because of all the strain he’s endured lately.” Nakamura looked at his dinner. He had hardly eaten any of it. “I’m sorry. I find I have no appetite right now. Please apologize to the cook for me. It’s very good, but I just don’t feel like eating right now.”

Satsuo said, “That’s all right. I didn’t feel like eating, either. I’m worried about Hikaru. I keep thinking that he’d be all right if I hadn’t hit him that day. None of this would have happened if I hadn’t hit him.”

“What do you mean?”

“Nothing. I meant nothing.” Satsuo stood and picked up the unfinished meal. “I have to get back to work. I’ll tell my mother what you said. Sorry.” He hurried back to the kitchen before Nakamura could say anything.

That boy knows more than he’s letting on, Nakamura thought. But how much does he know? He couldn’t possibly know about Hikaru’s demon side, could he? Nakamura went back to his room, his mind suddenly filled with worry.

A big Thank you!!! goes out to Panda for helping me with the solitary line of Japanese in this segment. You're a real hero for helping me figure that one out.

Well, I'm gonna go study the inside of my eyelids for a while.

Every jumbled person has a thinking part that wonders what the part that isn't thinking isn't thinking of

Tuesday!!!

Well, today sure was nice. The high temperature for Sioux City was 74°F!!! It was so nice out. I ran into my niece at the library. She was wearing sneakers, jeans and a sweatshirt. She was cold. I was wearing a t-shirt, cut-offs & sandals. I was comfortable! It was also nice enough for my brother & I to be able to take a walk longer than down to the store! We've not been able to do that for a while. So, as a result of all that walking, I'm tired tonight! *yawns*

Well, I may have figured out why my computer was so slow the past couple of nights... I was nosing around in the logs for the firewall and discovered that there were several hundred hits to Port 41170(UDP). Of course, I have no real idea what that means, but they were coming in so fast that the already slow dialup was being slowed down even more. It's not been quite so bad for the past little while. I wish these things would not happen.

Well, I think I am going to go off and run Ad-aware. If I can stay awake that is... Tomorrow I'm gonna run the anti-virus and try some other maintenance instructions that I got to see if I can fix the font issue. Should be interesting 'cause someone's supposed to come over and take a look at windows on the house to have them caulked and painted. Whee....

Name is but an accessory of reality. -- Xu Yu to Emperor Yao, c. 2300 BC

Monday night...

All the crops are rotting raw
All the days we march to order
All the men are sent to war
Guard we must the country's border
All the grasses black become
All the soldiers with disease
How was our good will undone?
What has made us ill at ease?
On the plains no tigers found
Oxen too have fled from sight
Saddened soldiers hold their ground
Resting not, through day and night
Through the bushes foxes run
Tails and shadows in the grasses
To the battle the soldiers come
Chariot after chariot passes

---"All the Grasses Turning Yellow," Book of Songs, Zhou Dynasty (1100-221 BC)

Well, now that I have that out of my system. How are you all? I'm fine. I got tired of my intro, so it got changed. Some things are the same, but other things are new.

Well, that was obvious...

I told you I was going to do laundry today. I did! Whee!!!

The thunderstorms that missed us last night actually started up around 2 or 3 in the morning. I slept through most of them, except for the rather loud thunderclap at 5:54 a.m.... The house shook. Even the cat woke up and looked around. We had a 70% chance of thunderstorms all day....still haven't had any. *sigh*

Except for waiting for thunderstorms and doing laundry, today was pretty dull. I tried to draw the thing I was trying the other day and threw away. Well, I threw this attempt away, too. I guess I'm just not meant to draw this guy. I may try something different tomorrow.

While nosing about looking for things earlier, I came across this on some blog somewhere.

  1. Grab the nearest book.

  2. Open the book to page 123.

  3. Find the fifth sentence.

  4. Post the text of the sentence in your journal along with these instructions.

  5. Don't search around and look for the "coolest" book you can find. Pick what’s actually nearest to you.

My text: "With regard to choice of spouse, property rights, inheritance, choice of domicile, divorce and other matters pertaining to marriage and the family, laws shall be enacted from the standpoint of individual dignity and the essential equality of the sexes." -- from The Visual Constitution of Japan

Yes, we have a copy of the Constitution of Japan. It's just a good thing that page 123 is in the English translation part. And it's also a good thing that it was laying on top of my Java book or you would have had something really dull.

Well, 'tis late and I should oughta go to bed... I think I covered everything I wanted to... if not, who cares?!?!?!

   Better hide the sledgehammers!

Sunday night and I'm resisting all urges to beat the living snot out of the computer.

My connection speed tonight is no slower than usual, but it seems to be taking forever for anything to load tonight. I actually got offline and reconnected to see if I could get a faster connection. I did, but it made little to no difference as far as I can tell. I'm losing patience with it as usual, and have been wandering around the room looking at stuff while waiting for pages to load. I found a book of clipart that I also have on CD, and three programs from WWF wrestling matches I went to in 1989 & 1990. Yes, that was when they were still the World Wrestling Federation. One thing that I can remember about one of the matches was the guy in the audience that seemed to be made up completely of hair....

Today was spent inside in the a/c again. Yes, it's still hot & humid here. There was a chance of thunderstorms, but they all went around us as usual. That sucks.

Tomorrow is going to be spent doing a butt-load of laundry. Yay. I lead such an exciting life....

Oh, by the way, someone asked which Kenshin book I had screaming at me the other day. It's number 14. I went and finished reading it after getting offline... and then I read parts of it again. I may read it again real soon.

Best line: "We got heads to crack and no time to crack 'em in."

Don't mind me... I'm just crazy!

Another Saturday night and I ain't got nobody!

I wish the next line in that song were true.... it goes, "I got some money 'cause I just got paid." I don't have any money. Oh well... anyone care to contribute?

Well, we held true to our plan to do as little as possible today. We did venture out of the house in the morning to get the mail and go to the store for milk and orange juice. That was around 11:00 and it was already over 90 outside. I think the weather guy said the heat index was around 110 degrees. Gross! But other than that, we pretty much stayed inside in the a/c. I finished reading a book that I started about a month ago. Now it's gotta go back to the library in Sioux City. I should have my brother drop it off for me... I think it's due next Wednesday. Hmmm... I really don't remember when it's due. I know I renewed it. In the afternoon we watched an old movie and laughed all the way through it. My brother and I enjoy movies.... almost too much. Then we did some RPG stuff again. And now I'm here.

So... how do you like my little doodle? It's amazing what I can come up with while waiting for my email to download. Yes, that's Hikaru being incredibly sappy about something. See, he is capable of being something other than a grump! Well... I may actually be in the mood to try to draw something, perhaps enough to try that which I was going to draw the other day but ended up throwing away! I really should try harder.... And yes, I'm trying to pad out this paragraph as much as possible to get it to stretch down the side of the picture. So...how's things?.... *starts to sing along with Aretha Franklin* "til you come back to me, that's what I'm gonna do....." Okay, enough of that. I should do some rearranging and refurbishing on my profile.... All right, I think I've babbled enough.

All right... question time! Have you ever had a dream about anime?

My answer: Yes. In one night I dreamt I was Kenshin. That in itself was weird, but the truly bizarre dream came later the same night. I dreamt that InuYasha stole my car.

*starts to dance along with the music* Oh, well, it looks like it's time to boogie!

   I like traffic lights!

Friday night and my brain cell just overheated.

Well, I can sum up the weather with the word "disgusting." The temperatures have been in the mid to upper 90s, and the dew points have been in the mid to upper 70s. So, that means the humidity has been pushing the heat index into the 100s! It's almost as if one needs gills to breathe outside. It was fun coming out of stores in Sioux City this evening... my glasses would fog up!

Didn't do a single constructive thing today. I was going to try to draw something, but it wasn't cooperating and I actually tore the page out of my sketchbook and threw it away! Then I was going to do some writing. Didn't do that either. I did end up grabbing the GBA and playing Pokemon Pinball again. Then my brother got up and we went to Sioux City.

In Sioux City we went to see The Island. It's not Best Picture fodder, but it is a bunch of fun. Lots of explosions and stuff like that. "American Flash-Bang" as my brother puts it. But hey... it's got Ewan McGregor in it, and I like him. I still call him "Steve" because of that one Star Wars action figure I have of him as Obi-wan Kenobi... but I digress. In brief, if you want to have a movie that is just action, go for it. Nothing earth-shattering in this movie.

My brother did come up with this, however: The best two comedies we've seen this summer are The Island and War of the Worlds. I think we were the only ones to laugh all the way through both movies.... and for a good while after they were over.

Well... I have a shiny new Kenshin book sitting here practically screaming, "READ ME!!!!!"
