Goku is MINE!!!
Well. I'm finally home. I had so much fun over the weekend. Drove up to the parents' house on Friday. That afternoon, my brother & I wandered around Sioux City for a while. We got rained on several times, but it was fun anyways.
Saturday we went up to Sioux Falls to my oldest brother's house for the annual family rebellion & cook-out. That was lots of fun. One of my sisters got t-shirts for all of us. Mom & Dad's shirts said "Who are all these kids, and why are they calling me Mom/Dad?" And for the siblings and me... my oldest sister: "I'm the big sister"; my oldest brother: "I'm the big brother"; the sister that got the shirts: "I'm the middle sister"; the other brother: "I'm the little brother"; and me: "I'm the little sister." It was so funny... my brothers are both over 6 foot tall & the oldest one knelt and put shoes under his knees so he looked short and my sister got a picture of them together like that. We also had a picture taken of all of us standing behind Mom & Dad and all wearing our shirts. My family is so crazy. My oldest sister and her family and the younger of my brothers couldn't stay for the 4th though. Saturday night we went out to a farm with a lot of fireworks. My nephews had so much fun, as did my niece and her boyfriend, with the fireworks. My nephews are 10 and 20 years old. The older one was lighting M-150s and holding them for a while and then throwing them into a barrel of water. Boom! Splash! Way fun! We shot off fireworks until almost 11 and then went back to my brother's house.
Sunday the 4th started out nice and relaxed. We went to Falls Park. There's actually waterfalls in own in Sioux Falls! I've been there before, but it's still a very nice park and it's a lot of fun to watch. There's a watchtower there so you can get a good look at the falls from the air. After the park, we went to the U.S.S. South Dakota memorial. The South Dakota was the most decorated ship of WW2. Sadly, the ship has been scrapped, but they built a wall around that shows the shape and size of the ship. They also have some of the guns, the tower, and the propellor on display. In the museum building there are models and displays about WW2 and the South Dakota. It's very moving to see a piece of the U.S.S. Arizona on display.
That night we all went to the fairground for a concert and fireworks. The concert was fun. It started out with the Sioux Falls Municipal Band. Nice traditional 4th of July music. Then it went to a group that had some fun stuff for the kids. It was fun to watch a bunch of little kids (and some big ones, too) dancing around. Then there was the two rock bands. One did a bunch of old 60s & 70s music... poorly. They did a bunch of songs I don't really like and did them bad. Their singer couldn't sing very well. The second band was more to my liking. They played some more recent stuff. My parents didn't really like them. *giggle* Then the fireworks went off! Oh, man, it's been ages since I've seen a decent display like that!!!
All in all... it was a great weekend. I've come out of it with a few bug bites and a renewed sense of something. Maybe it's optimism. My Mom gave me "magic bells." These bells came from a religious group that spent time at the conference center where she was doing volunteer work this spring. So, they're bound to have some special quality to them. ^_^
And the comment about Goku... my brother (the younger one) gave me the model of Goku he made a few years ago! Yay! I now have the posable Goku! Hee hee hee!!! Life is good!!!!
