Reflections on five years gone.
Today is the fifth anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. So much has gone on since then. I hope everyone has taken time out to reflect on what happened and where the world has gone since then.
Here's a recap of the past five September 11's in my life:
September 11, 2001: I was at the mall working when this all went down. I was back after my vacation and the manager went on her vacation, leaving me a mess to deal with. The mall closed at 10:30 that morning. I went home and got online to see what the news was there. It was a very sad, quiet day.
September 11, 2002: I was still working at the mall, but ended up with the day off. I won't go to a mall on September 11th anymore. I just don't want to see the day turned into some sort of excuse to have a sale.
September 11, 2003: I was working doing tech support down in Omaha. I had to work that day. I know I didn't really want to go to work, but I wore my black turtleneck and black pants and my Stone. The Stone is a world-wide Internet community that I've been part of since 2000 or so. I like to show that I'm not just an American, but a citizen of the world.
September 11, 2004: I was unemployed but still in Council Bluffs. I also avoided the mall as usual. I spent the day as I normally did then. Either at the library or in class. Again...wore my Stone.
September 11, 2005: I was probably working here at the motel. Unfortunately, I have to wear a rather hideous polo shirt for work and can't do the black. I guess I was pretty low-key for the day.
And that brings us to today, September 11, 2006: Again, I'm at work at the motel. Recalling what I was doing that day five years ago. I read the USA Today and had a little twinge when I saw the picture of the one jet by the World Trade Center. I guess I'll always feel that way. So... like I said before, I hope you all are doing something to remember such a tragic day in history, but I also hope you're doing something to make this world a better place in the future.
*^*^*^*^*
And now... comments on comments. I haven't done that for a while.
Mamma Vash: So...what are you knitting? I don't knit because it drives my Mom nuts. She's a "professional" knitter and can't stand to watch me knit.
mewmewichigo: I agree. I think the boss has it in for me, too. It's also a case of being understaffed right now.
Caprice: No, the little psycho isn't Kenshin. He'd be the little hottie! However, it would be nice to have Kenshin around (with or without pants ^^) to see how long it would take him to beat down the little psycho. Kenshin's vow of no killing would be sorely tested by this guy! And, yes, the headache ended... around 11 pm... when I got off work. Welcome back, I missed you!
SunFallE: "Mod Team"... is that anything like "Mod Squad"? As for the headache... it was a combination of things: rain, lack of food, & the little psycho. Mostly the lack of food... and the rain... and the little psycho. "Turn off psycho button"... heh heh heh...
*^*^*^*^*
Well, that about does it for me. I'm hoping to see my egg drop soup and crab rangoon here pretty soon. I'm hungry!!! I'll get the laptop out in a little while...
Laters!
