Lately
Yeah, I'm still here...

I'm taking a little down time at work to bring up current events that involve me and some that don't.

Movies I've seen since last post:

Star Trek
Well, I have to say this is most likely the best movie of 2009. As the material from the old series has pretty much dried up and settled into a pile of fanboy closet materials, they had to open up a wormhole and bring it back to life. I have to say I was thoroughly impressed with the entire film.

Terminator 4
As I've seen the other movies and they didn't serve to impress me all that much (I also didn't understand them too much). I was impressed with the story, and the acting was very good. I don't think that I'm really partial to robotic apocalypse movies (as I didn't really like The Matrix all that much either). But I still say its worth it to go see it in the theaters.

That's it for movies...except that I am looking forward to Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince more excitedly than I would have been looking forward to seeing the Star Trek movie had I known it would be so great... need to get the 5th movie on DVD and re-watch it.

My Soul
My car came out of the shop looking like new. I've had no problems with how it drives (its like there is no difference). Then while I was in the parking lot getting out of my car, the wind blew hard and my door knocked into the side-view of the car next to me... with no noticeable damage to the mirror, my door now has an unsightly dent near the handle. "Curse you foul wind!" I still need to scratch the paint from the other car off that spot...

My Anime
I recently watched another one of the sappy anime's that I like so much...
Myself; Yourself was a wonderfully written drama and I recommend anyone who likes such sappy tales to watch it. Its very interesting.

Shuffle! was perhaps one of the most entertaining of said variety of dramas I've ever seen. Also considering that Matt is moe over the demon girls, he will have this one as a recommendation. All I can say after watching it all is "God panties".

On the more ridiculous/disturbing side of the recent anime I've seen is Bludgeoning Angel Dokuro-chan. Its really the kind of anime you want to watch while under the influence of something. Its not for the faint of heart or the highly prudish, strongly opinionated type who is easily offended. But I got the entirety of the two short seasons and I must say that my mind will never be the same...

Also, I bought season 1 of World's Strongest Disciple Kenichi. I had read the manga and that was great in itself, but the thing is that you just can't read it if it's turned into an anime and its really really good.
BTW, it was really really good.

A-kon
To get straight to the point, I'm worried about the "freak factor" of the average Otaku. It appears to be rising into the danger zone, and I caught a glimpse of it this year at A-kon. Typically things happen at these conventions, but the thing is that there is too much of a bad thing happening at the convention. I'm really sad to have to say that this A-kon may be my last. I'll be going to A-fest this year to give the community one last chance at changing my hopes for the future of otaku society, but the violence and drug/alcohol abuse is getting too common for me. An ambulance had to show up to the hotel at least 2 times this year and I'm finding less and less that I want reflected on myself by being a part of the society. I'll be cosplaying at A-fest because it may be my last venture into the world of conventions if this more tame convention turns out to be just as bad.

The Economy
Ah, the strength and stability of the American economy....
Nah, I'm lying. Its been doomed to happen again... really too bad that the stock market determines so many things. And affects all companies adversely when only some companies are affected adversely in the first place. I can't come up with a better way to make money than investing tho. Stupid double-edged swords...

Oh yeah! Speaking of double-edged swords, I'm cosplaying on Labor Day Weekend! If you've ever read the webcomic 8-bit Theatre, you'll know my character: His name - Fighter.
The double-edged swords I mentioned are just part of his diabolical weapon - Swordchucks.
So far, I've used my skills in metalworking to make some alright looking armor and I've made a pretty good start on the wig (though I think this is the hardest thing I've ever done).
I hope I'll be done fairly quickly - and hopefully before the end of July (I still have to get the fabric [and possibly leather] parts done too).

anyway, I'm hungry and that's about all I can bear to write before I start chewing my arm off.

repost from may
Hello fellow otakuites!

As few who may read this, I am back after my long unannounced stint away from the O. I've been using facebook lately for its unintensive user commitment to user anti-laziness...ness. I may post more, I may not... Please dont expect much as I'm sure you have grown not to since I even got an email some months ago from the O itself asking me to come back...

Although I'll have to resolve a few things:

First off, I'm not going to evaluate writing... unless emailed about it.
I'm not going to write collaboratively... unless I'm an idea helper and not a writer.
I'm not going to be doing any wallpapers... until I get Photoshop working on my big fancy 46" HDTV monitor.
I'm not supplying photos... that aren't uploaded by my family members via Facebook... unless I feel like uploading pics I've taken.
I'm not going to finish this list of resolutions... unless I can't think of anymore things... to resolve
I'm not... uh...

Anyways, I'm back and I feel I need to apologize for my unexcused absence.

I'll just say that I have fallen back to the dark side and played a bit more World of Warcraft. I've fed the sickness. Paid the ransom, and become the disease. In fact I've almost recruited a few acquaintances to the folly of mankind (not the Presidency, I'll tell you that much).

Getting back to the topic of my life and whatnot that goes on in it, I've purchased a new car for myself

Brand new <--

So new that it took me some time to get 500 miles on it.

But this is not a happy story. By no means does this tale bode well for our young adventurer Sam.

New Car Specs:
2010 Kia Soul Sport
2.0 liter standard transmission (I like the standard transmission)
Color: Titanium
10 miles on the Odometer at time of purchase

kiasoul.com/

I got the amazing stereo package as well. Say what you may about the Hamsters and whatnot, its way better than a Scion xB (cheaper too).

Anyway, as much as I know off the top of my head about my new car, I'm not driving it after the first week in which I have owned it. I'm actually back in the car that I've been wanting to sell.

Last Sunday was the fateful day.

It was raining... or so the sprinklers on the side of the road forebode. I was driving along the road that I knew not lead to certain doom...

In the right hand lane, I watch as a red convertible changes lanes into the left. I think nothing of it and continue moving along towards my destination, my friends apartment less than a block away.
I pass by the roadside sprinklers belonging to the property to my right, and suddenly a red convertible is in front of me, completing a right hand turn into my fender.

Glass shatters and tires squeal as we come to a stop in front of the apartment complex. After making sure the engine wasn't done for and prying open the door, I find my car with its left wheel jammed into the side of the wheel well and the fender busted up and crinkled into oblivion.

My paper tags have only just expired Saturday - the sixth day since the accident.

I received word from the collision repair company that the parts were the greatest lead time and the repair cost was going to total nearly $7k. I'm so glad it was not my fault. I am a great driver, so it takes someone awesomely bad at driving to get into an accident with me. Only by doing something so dumb I could never expect it, could I be in a collision.

So the moral of the story is:
Check you blind spot
Use your TURN SIGNAL even for chaning lanes (I will road-rage all over anybody who doesn't!)
and finally, DONT MAKE A RIGHT TURN FROM THE LEFT HAND LANE!!!

I expect to get my "no longer damaged but still not the same" Soul in a little more than 2 weeks from now.

I can guarantee that if the guy had said that he was in the right lane one more time when the evidence was so grievously against him, I might have gone for a lawsuit.

Also on that note:
1. Have you ever been in a collision? (yes or no, details aren't important)
2. Have you ever owned a brand new car?
3. Should there be an evaluation process to decide if someone is too old to drive? obviously, this guy had some senility issues.

Thats all for me on this post...

Still pissed off at 90% of the other drivers in the US,

Moving day has
Well, once again I'll fill you in
on all the @#$% that did begin
and set my world all-a-spin
sometimes I find, I just can't win

that was a much better poem! yay me!

well, I'm kinda down about things now that things have happened

What things happened, you ask?

Of course something happened! I mean, really... What kind of great happenings can occur without some kind of thing that is not in my favor?

Spill it, you say?

Alright, turns out that I am not even moving this weekend as was planned. I was left by the wayside by my new apartment's staff. In fact, I'm having to transfer my ferdeekin' application to another location that happens to be owned by this company to move within the same month! I had my unit settled and picked out for the first time weeks ago - it was supposed to be a renovated model, and it was... until the inspector found what must be a terrible plumbing issue. It was going to take an extra week to fix it!!! Anyway, the management was "kind" and pointed out another unit that would be ready on the date that I wanted to move in (this was the week before it was supposed to be done - yesterday). Turns out that my luck is terrible and the staff was terribly misinformed. It was scheduled to be finished on the 21st!. I happen to find this out after I ask to tour the place after it is done and the same day before I was supposed to move (I was supposed to move today). Well, while that unit is going to be finished later, the move date of the 22nd is out of the question even with end of the month of August for free. I found out that the complex down the street (which I looked at previously - it was $50/month more expensive) was operated by the same company. Hopefully, things don't get @#$%ed up again and I will still be moved into a newly renovated apartment on the 11th.

Oh yeah! Speaking of the 11th! I recieved a jury summons that I was going to be able to dodge because of the move - on the 11th! Depending on the ability of the bureaucracy that is my current county's courthouse establishment, I will still be able to exempt it because of the postponement that I applied for. This is the most trouble I've had to go thru [i]EVER[/i] - likely more than most anyone else just getting their first apartment has. Its bad enough that I had everything packed...

Well, after I submit this page turning epic of a move over to the Lifetime movie channel, I'm gonna get moving - to the Dark Knight movie that I still haven't seen.

Well, good Knight everyone

Moving day is on its way
Well, I must say
that indeed, the day
in which I move
to my new place
has hit my calendar
in the face

Okay, well I asked for that torturous poem... although I could have avoided it altogether.
But spare you the privilege of hearing it? Never!

Back to sanity -
well, I'm on my way out the door in a couple of Fridays and then I'm starting my alone time at my own pad.

Its a cozy little one bed - one bath that's been recently renovated with new appliances and fresh paint and increasingly new a/c (condensing units at least)

I already got the toaster and the wireless router that I know I'll be needing (I'll be sure to use them as directed), so all thats left is the furniture and the cable/internet among the other things I'll likely forget.

Photobucket
Lucky for me, there's a store that has everything I need... even toilet paper... and a sandwich.

Yes! IKEA is the place where I will either get myself a new couch or something to make a cheaper couch look better. I'll likely take the better full size couch since I will have a friend over for the next con I'm going to. That's right Caesar!

Well, I'm getting things in order and really don't have too much time to post much more... maybe enough to copy this to theO... prolly will.

In other news

Oh yeah! I'm signed up for a course in Japanese!
I'm pretty psyched about it, but the tape I had to go through for the second time wasn't too fun. Turns out that if you aren't taking classes for a year, you are no longer "enrolled" in the college I went to.

Also, not surprising enough - the playground for my old elementary school caught fire today.
NOT ARSON!
That should explain how hot it is in Texas these days - it spontaneously combusted! (nobody was hurt). Tomorrow's high is forecasted to be 102 degrees! Oddly... I like the heat.

Well, thats the news - I believe it definitely broke.

Site Update - Finally!
Yahoo!
I just finished my Ai Kora Wallpaper - the only one out there! I'm so happy its done. I was working on it for hours longer than I should have last night - a.k.a. getting to sleep at 5am is not what any sane person should do before a long weekend.

In honor of my exploits, I think I'll give a quick summary of the story for all who read this to know.

Hachibe Maeda, 15 yrs, is a strange person. While he was younger, he obsessed over a character in an anime called Sanny-chan. The obsession buried itself in Hachibei's subconscious eventually until he decided that there could be no replacement for the Sanny-chan he adored. He could never find a girl like her, so poor mind-wrecked Hachibei merely obsessed over girls with Sanny-chan's ideal parts. This is a story of the weak-willed Hachibei's struggle over physical attraction and the ultimate question of what love is.

It is not available in the U.S. but if I EVER get the chance to even buy the Japanese volumes, I would gladly buy as many as I can. No manga before this one has made me laugh so hard.
[Little did Sam know that he himself was obsessed]

Joke of today(well I got one, ok?)

Anyway, I shall now photocopy a page out of Kitabug's book and put down a joke I recieved via email:

A man walks into a restaurant with a full-grown ostrich behind him. The waitress asks them for their orders. The man says, "A hamburger, fries and a coke," and turns to the ostrich, "What's yours?"

"I'll have the same," says the ostrich.

A short time later the waitress returns with the order "That will be $9.40 please," and the man reaches into his pocket and pulls out the exact change for payment.

The next day, the man and the ostrich come again and the man says, "A hamburger, fries and a coke."

The ostrich says, "I'll have the same."

Again the man reaches into his pocket and pays with exact change.

This becomes routine until the two enter again. "The usual?" asks the waitress.

"No, this is Friday night, so I will have a steak, baked potato and a salad," says the man.

"Same," says the ostrich.

Shortly the waitress brings the order and says, "That will be $32.62."

Once again the man pulls the exact change out of his pocket and places it on the table.

The waitress cannot hold back her curiosity any longer. "Excuse me, sir. How do you manage to always come up with the exact change in your pocket every time?"

"Well," says the man, "several years ago I was cleaning the attic and found an old lamp. When I rubbed it, a Genie appeared and offered me two wishes. My first wish was that if I ever had to pay for anything, I would just put my hand in my pocket and the right amount of money would always be there."

"That's brilliant!" says the waitress. "Most people would ask for a million dollars or something, but you'll always be as rich as you want for as long as you live!"

"That's right. Whether it's a gallon of milk or a Rolls Royce, the exact money is always there," says the man.

The waitress asks, "What's with the ostrich?"

The man sighs, pauses and answers, "My second wish was for a tall chick with a big butt and long legs who agrees with everything I say."

Hehe - thanks for the joke DAD

Anyway, thanks for visiting. I'll be around.

Version Vibrant? is it really that shiny?
Thats right, I finally got suckered onto the version vibrant of theotaku.com. I can't say I like it too much, it's somewhat difficult to use for someone who prefers to try and be savvy with the HTML stuff. I mean, I couldn't even use the < a > tags to link myO site. Its rather ridiculous if you ask me, and as for vibrance - it definitely looks nice, but its not completely user friendly. I could go on and on about it, but I'd probably only rant on the same problems I have with it time and again.

The problem with being a Manga lover concerning designing my site

Yeah, I did change my Avatar. It's Hachibei from Ai Kora a.k.a. Love and Collage. and yes, I took that right out of the manga. Its not as popular as it should be because it is a manga, so therefore I don't find anything on theotaku or animepaper concerning it any closer than the older and more popular works of the artist. Its my favorite comedy of all right now, but I have to be the sole creator of fan works I want to grace my own page... its rather frustrating that I'm not even getting the help of scans to make a wallpaper to turn into my background (Vectoring is tough, but making wallpapers using only the jpgs I've downloaded is tougher).

excuse me while I wipe away my tears sarcastically for the way this part whines. I have to admit I like to complain... and this is a pretty easy one to complain about. "Geez, everybody's making me work harder to make my site pretty..."
haha

Moving out? I sure hope so.

Every time I'm at work and the topic comes up about my plans to move out, the indian woman (she's so sweet) tells me to stay with my parents as long as possible. I think thats her specific opinion for other reasons... she is from a culture that never kicks out their children. Every one else supports my decision though, so I'm not discouraged.

And at last I've got two friends that may be looking for a roommate. One currently is being driven mad by his current roommate, and the other may be ousted from his parents house for reasons that cannot be explained concerning his own privacy (please don't ask - I wont tell).

Anyway, it looks like some change is in order before the years end - really, I was getting bored with life for a little while.

I think I'm done with todays post, so if you want to contact me, I've typically been on AIM before and after midnight.

The O Story I've come to edit
Hello all,

Once again I've got no good excuse to have avoided my blog. I'm sure that there is some good reason that I just don't remember... or am I just sure there isn't one? Oh well, what matters is that I'm still alive and able to post with such great ability that you've never seen before.

Anyway, I indeed did agree to edit the O Story... I talked extensively with Kita on it on AIM. I wonder sometimes that it may be a mistake, as I notice that the problem I once had with writing stories is more prevalent than I thought. One of the most important things a writer must do is to keep the tenses the same. I once wrote a story that defied that and immediately got comments back on it, so I've decided to always keep my eye out for that while I'm writing. But honestly it is sometimes hard to catch. I'll have to put a disclaimer in the story that asks the writers to take care to write in the same tense as before so that I might keep the little sanity I have left (Example: If a page has 20 sentences and each sentence has an average of 1.5 words with incorrect tense, thats 30 words I have to correct the tense for per page. Last years story had around 80 pages I think and it doesn't look like its going to be much different this time).

Anyhow, any more talking about the story and I'll probably give away spoilers, so thats enough of that.

My Bass

Yup, I have a bass guitar.
Not a fish.
I've had it for... a few months now.
I play it a lot.
I play the same stuff over and over.
I have a book that is 3 inches thick full of music.
One song by Yngwie Malmsteen in there (Pron.- Ingvay).
Don't know what that one should sound like... but i know its extremely hard.
I can play the blues pretty easily.
Then again its only 7 different notes...
It gets kinda boring when you realize you don't know how to play accompaniment bass on your own.

oh, thats not poetry, its me being brain dead and just putting my thoughts down with barely any organization.

I think my post ends here?
An AMV? Maybe... [pulls up youtube]
ok, nothing good on Battle Programmer Shirase...
or anything else I want to spend time looking at...

oh well, I guess you'll have to find your own :P

A-kon... returns? ...forever? heck lets just call it Dark Knight Akon!
Well, I went to A-kon again this year, and if you know me much at all, you know I wasn't "thrifty". This was my first A-kon with a steady well-paying job; I wouldn't expect to have spent less money lol.

The Shwag Report

Shwag Report:
brought to you by the Photobucket Slideshow

Awesome, right?

And all I had to do was spend WAY too long uploading those pictures!

But wait! There's MORE!

Oh yeah, convention - Costumes!
Here's the first volley of great stuff - since I have to go!

Well, it was dangerous as normal I guess. I managed to get away from the dealer's room long enough to see the last half of the Applegeeks panel. It was probably the best Webcomic panel I've been to! Great guys that Hawk and Ananth.

Well, thats all I can squeeze in before I leave for the night.

Short post (its after midnight - ok?)
Ah, its good to have some time to write...
its good to have some time to read...
Don't do both at the same time, unless you are copying something down.

Anyway, I was forced - of my own accord to read Death Note. I find it easier to read the manga somehow than to suffer thru the anime - its quicker anyway... I believe I'm at the point where I know whats going on, but I believe it deserves to be anime in my greater understanding of the industry. Its just the right kind of "weird".

Anyway in a subject not entirely related, I will indeed be a Writer in the upcoming O Story. I'm pretty sure I should be somewhat discreet about details, so you will have to wait - as will I. Though my patience will be tried, I bet.

anyways, "neener neener neener" to anyone not writing it - you have to wait longer! HAHA!

Well, its time for bed, more to come later... If I remember.
