The Untitled story (An unfinished chapter)
The darkness… it has always been so consuming. When I dream, it envelops me, with a chorus of beautiful songs lulling me to my own death. He comes to me, always darker than the darkness, deep white voids for eyes, a tangled mess of white for a hair. More beast than man he is, whoever he is. I just know him as the one that haunts my dreams, the one that left the mark on my arm.
For I was told that he didn’t exist, that the scars on my arm came from my failed attempt to slow time and keep a friend from falling from a tree. But if that is so, why is it I so vividly remember the rift. When I casted what was supposed to be a time slowing spell a darkness ensued. Soon I, the seven year old time Mage stood in a chamber of dim light. Before me a shrine of darkness where he was chained, behind me a group of Mages singing a song of sealing, the lullaby of my death.
He came to me, monstrious step by monsterious step. He looked me over and breathed, with wreched breath, “You are the one, but no isn’t the time. Now go and remember that you are mine.”
Then I was back outside my home with Akane falling at me from the tree, like no had time had passed. Moments later she landed on me and we both cried out in pain. But I cried in more than pain I cried in Terror. The monster, from that day haunted my dreams.
And now I pass this terror on to you hoping that it will fade.
With a flick of his wrist Lunus Trist slammed the cover of the book shut sitting it back onto his sister’s night stand. He studied the cover for a moment the golden runes reading ‘My Sanctum’ had begun to wear away, the passage of time had not been kind to them. Nor had his sister Kurai, she took it everywhere with her in fear someone would read her personal thoughts within, now she left it in the open. This worried her older brother, it seemed much like a cry for help, a cry to help the darkness subside. Something that he well knew wouldn’t be happening, in fact it was only to get worse.
The boy sighed, his black and silver hair becoming a grand mess as he did. “I am afraid that I can offer no comfort my dear. As the 6th year of Light draws to a close the 6 Lunar years approach. He will call to you then, but that I can save you from.” A stoic expression on his face remained unchanging as he left the room into the elegant halls of their family home.
Many perks came with being the Royal Time Mages to the King Arisitanu and his family. With it being a rather large estate and salaries going to the head of the home who watched over the intricate network of time in the kingdom. Lunus, the heir to all of this had little interest in actually inheriting it. Though he didn’t show it outwardly, along with his obsession for the past; more specifically King Therelle the man who dared to bring the banished gods sealed in stones to life. Then to add to the blasphemy he fused his body with his own. This king was later brought down and killed, or so history says.
Lunus liked to side with the speculators rather than history it seemed more interesting.
Entering the large living room silver irises rested on a girl lounging on a large couch. Adorned in a white cloak with ornate designs, with a black school uniform underneath it seemed she was awaiting something. Silver irises of her own locked on the ceiling through strands of dark hair. She heaved out a mighty sigh and rolled off the couch standing hands upon hips looking to Lunus. “Are you escorting me to the academy today?” she asked with much impatience.
He gave a nod, “Just give me a moment to finish preparing.” He said almost inaudibly as he glided out of the room. Just as quickly he returned with a dark colored cloak and a small crystal, nodding to the other he walked out the adjacent door to the outside.
Kurai followed into the bright light, even in the morning the solar months were terribly bright. Sheilding her eyes she followed her brother to an ornately decorated vehicle fit for two.
Lunus opened the rear of the vehicle and inserted the cyrstal into a port and it started up and began to hover over the ground.
Kurai climbed in sitting snugly in a passenger's seat, where as her brother took the drivers.
Placing his hands on the 'U' shaped control stick they began to move forward at a quick pace. Rising just above the tree lines, they rushed over several miles of beautiful forestry and homes until they reached the large groomed lawns of the institution. Lunus pulled the vehicle to a halt several meters from the main entrance near a lone large tree.
"Thank you for the ride." she said with a nod as she opened the door of the hovering vehicle and stepped out.
"Not a problem." he said in a kind tone, though his face reflected it not it stayed with it's same rocky stoicism that she had become accustom to. "I will see you around meal time." With that the door closed and he was off in a hurry.
Kurai let out a deep sigh and sigh and sat down beneath the tree staring up at the full green leaves that graced it this time of year.
"Hey Kurai!" A fimiliar voice rang through the young time mage's ears and she sat up to see Akane racing across the lawn towards her.
Green fabric swirled around the Fox Krea as she ran to greet her friend. Her fox ears twitched as she slid to a stop in front of Kurai. "Your here early, I usually make it first."
Kurai lounged back and gave a bit of a sigh, "I got ready early." she replied staring into the deep green of the leaves. "So where is Mark he is usually tagging around with you."
Akane sat beside Kurai and subsequently laid back to look at the tree as well, "Doing something with some other Water mages. I think they are trying to decide what would be best for their sub class."
"Hmm I always saw Mark as a Darkness. I always thought that he should have be innate in that instead of water." Kurai muttered "But I suppose you can't help genetics."
Akane gave a nod fixing her small glasses to avoid a glare from the sun, "Well I don't really see him as a Darkness, maybe more of a Light."
The pair chuckled for a moment before clearing of a throat caught their attention. "Honestly Akane, Light? They are all a bunch of wimps." Mark glowered, his dark purple wolf ears flattened and his tail stiff.
Kurai snickered and reached over tugging on the Krea pulling his tall humanoid figure to the ground with a tremendous thump and a rather surprised expression from Mark. "You make me nervous when you stand." was the only explanation he offered.
Feeling an ensuing argument mostly coming from Mark, Akane headed it off smoothly, as usual. "So Mark leave your cloak at home? You know your teachers are going to chew you out again."
Mark shrugged, "I don't care they can chew me out if they wish. They all know I am a damned Water Mage. I am no first year I don't know why I need it to Identify myself. Besides, it hides my physic."
Kurai groaned and shook her head, "Let's not even start down that road." Rolling to her feet she looked to the pair for a moment her expression slowly washing to something almost nostalgic. "I hate to draw the attention and topic away from Mark, but I thought I would let you know that I started up that journal again Akane."
"So the dreams are coming back?" Akane asked softly.
"I thought you would have gotten over them by now."
Kurai glared at Mark some, "I thought so as well. But apparently with the approaching Lunar months they are returning." she let out a heavy sigh, "I just wish I knew how to get rid of them."
"Wasn't Lunus looking into that?" Akane's tail gave a bit of a twitch as she asked. The three were all too sure that they had seen a rift open that day. And they were annoyed that the rest of the world tried to write it off as nothing.
"I believe he is, that is why he has been spending so much time in the Royal University Library." Kurai said thoughtfully. Or at least that is what she thought he was doing. He had been leaving early and coming home late always with piles of paper, then he would lock himself in his room. When their parents were home they just said he was studying hard and that Kurai should be more like him, but she wasn't so sure.
((I am stopping there for now I have house chores, I hope you enjoy it. ^^))
