Chapter 1
The beginning
Senna Kaleya ran down the street toward her home in Nillsra City at a white knuckle pace with buildings and lamps being uprooted and exploded all around her. She actually looked quite calm considering she was only 14 and running down an exploding alleyway. The truth is this had happened to her often. The two countries Naïf and Fabliau had been at war for over two centuries. No one really knows how the war was started anymore. Now people just fight for revenge and maybe a feeling a devotion to their country.
Senna jumped quickly over a fallen mailbox and skidded around a corner. Jumping a chain link fence into the yard of a blue house. She hurried around the fallen items in her yard, heading toward the bomb shelter in her backyard. She opened the led re-enforced door with a heavy grunt and then shut it again with the red “Lock Down” button by the door.
No sooner had she found her mother sitting in a rocking chair sewing, when an electric atom bomb landed on the street corner where she had been moments before. She then started the well worn argument ounce again with her mother “Mom. I really, really think we should move!”, the brown eyed, blonde women in the rocking chair replied with “We will not be going anywhere, Senna! I mean, what if your Father comes looking for us and we’re not where he left us?” replied her mother. “Then he can go back to where he came from!” shouted Senna, “He hasn’t wanted to be part of our lives since I was born so why would he want to go and intrude on it now?!”. Her mother looked at her a bit taken back then said quietly “What? You don’t want your Father to come and take care of us?”, “Why should I!” retorted Senna tears forming in her eyes, “We’ve done fine without him our whole lives! Why do we need him now?”. Her mother looked at her and said “It isn’t dignified for a women to work, Dear. You know that. The sooner a your father comes the sooner I stop breaking the Chivalries code.”
Senna looked at her mother and knew it was a lost fight, but something inside her made her mutter “Maybe the Chivalries Code is wrong.”. The only thing her mother loved as much as her father was the Chivalries Code, the code saying that women were not to work for themselves or own land. Or have any rights to the freedom we deserve!!! thought Senna. The only reason her mother got away with it was because her father had run out of their lives a month after Senna was born so the police let them slip through the crevices. Senna looked down at her dark blue baggy jeans and dark gray shirt over her black tennis shoes all of which were covered in dust and street debris, she was the only girl at her school that didn’t wear a skirt everyday. She went over and looked at herself in the tall mirror they kept in the shelter. As she knew her freckled face was covered in dust and smudges were all around her deep emerald green eyes. She looked at her dark gold-blonde hair and headed back toward the front of the shelter and started pulling tiny chunks of cement that had come from the blown up street out of her hair.
She turned around to face her mother grabbed a towel and said over her shoulder said “I’m going to take a shower, Mom.” “Just hurry, Dear.” her mom said blankly. Senna rolled her eyes, the only time her mother got like that was when she was fantasizing her father coming back riding a white horse to save them both. Senna knew that would never happen but she let her mom dream. In a way, Sarah thought, my Mom is more innocent then I am. She snickered at the thought but knew it was true. She headed toward the shower complex in the shelter.
She looked at her angry expression in the mirror on the wall after her shower and thought to herself Stupid Chivalries Code! We can never just do what we want because the government thinks it’s wrong for a women to think for themselves! We can’t even help our country fight! They’re shipping boys off as young as 10 years old to train for the army and they won’t even use the other recourses they have!. “Wait now, stop that Senna!” she whispered to herself, “ Thoughts like that are gonna get CC suspision”. The CC are the Code Cops or Police but CC for short.
She started walking down the hall toward the main room where her mother was sitting. Her mother was not there so she went to the house. She got inside to her mother already picking up fallen dishes and garbage cans. Sarah bent down and picked up a plastic sculpture, they knew better than to have anything ceramic. They went into the living room and picked up the fallen couches together. She headed toward her room and when she got there she found that the wall was blown out.
Brian’s first
The street boy ran from the front of the bakery as fast as his swift feet would carry him. He turned his black curl adorned head around his deep blue eyes searching his surroundings and skidded into the alley at the side of the bakery, his dark green cloak waving behind him. He heard the screams of the enraged baker as he disappeared around the corner of the alley. His name is Brian the thief. Brian entered the secret passage that led under the bakery to wait out the infuriated bellows of the baker. All he had to do now was wait.
