My first anime was Star Blazers. My first anime love was Sailor Moon. I live with a companion cat named "Luna". She was found adbandoned with her brother and sister when they were kittens. Her siblings are with a family who could not take all three. She is a Tortie Tabie with a moon crescent (orange) on her chest. I play a lot of online backgammon and watch an awful amount of anime. I am an original trekkie and build model kits sometimes. I read a lot. My favorite superhero is Spidey. I like to go to conventions when I can and when I do I spend way too much money. The sweetest star I ever met was James Doohan. I have a picture of myself and Leni Parker from "Final Conflict".

Paprika ...and the "nip"
I was able to see Paprika on the weekend - finally! It was showing in a cinema with a reasonably sized screen. A small theater but the crowd for the matinee was about 50+. A lot was going on just outside on Saturday so I think that was an amazing crowd.
The imagery was incredible especially in the parade scenes. At some point when the dvd comes out it will be interesting to have a look at the details of that. I am curious as to just what was in the microwave because at first glance it looked like a familiar mouse.
Of course the issue of what is real and not real when tech becomes so advanced that it is not easy to tell was explored. I've seen that in things like "Existenz" and other films but once again it was the duality of the main character that got to me. The main character is at first like many others I've seen in that her severe nature is almost a cliche. The "Big Bad" was obvious and irritating but it was the ultimate humanness of the main character that really made me smile.
It is friggin' hot here. Enough already. With the humid-ex it is well over 40 Celsius. The catnip is much better and improving but on a day like this the intense heat can do a number on it. I have hung my first two strands to dry for Luna. She of course has sampled the nip and is doing quality control.

So, how about Kurau - Phantom Memory. I have been reading comments here and there that the second volume is a real drag. I bought it and I agree it is slow and that some of the mistakes that the main character makes are a bit dumb for someone with her experience but from what I saw of the preview ...I get the impression in the next volume she may be changing her mindset somewhat.
It is actually cold this morning. I think cold is a relative thing. It's really 17 Celsius. It just feels cold. I have to go see ANOTHER doctor today and it is another walk. Should be nice day for it once I get going.
This morning I woke up to my alarm and immediately started sneezing. I have this neighbor that is using cheap cologne in the morning. Cheap is anything that can go out a window, get scared of the outside world and re-enter my window. This is a guy. Sometimes I wish people would ease up on the sprays, perfumes and cologne. I have a friend that is so sensitive to this sort of thing that he breaks out in hives.
Been hanging at AOD lately. It is fun there and the forums are entertaining. Some really cool people there. I wonder if forum activity drops off in the summer or if it increases for the younger ones because of extra free time.

Catnip, When They Cry, Bone Density Test ....
Ok ...I got bugs on the catnip plants. Very little bugs. One of the plants almost died yesterday because they are fast. I am using a mixture of water, soap and tobacco to kill them and seem to holding my own. It is very annoying and until I clear it up ...no nip for Luna.
I watched Volume one of "When They Cry". I love the way the tension builds until the end of the arc. I highly recommend it. I don't know if the artwork lives up to some of the claims but some of the details are fun. I like the eyes and the way they go "lizard" when things get serious.
It is still hot here but a cold front is coming through and rain (we need it) is coming.
I had a bone density test today. The lady that did it was funny and we both had as much fun as a person can with this sort of thing. It is done on a table with a moving scanner over top. Low radiation (what is all this web stuff on my wrists) and it is connected to a computer so there is no film involved. I saw my spine. It is kinda cool for a spine. A tip - empty your pockets before you go in the office. I had a Sailor Moon key ring and a phaser type one I forgot about. Maybe that is why the techie was joking with me.

Tommy, Tenma and Nana...
It is Father's Day. I hope anyone reading this is enjoying the day. My parents died years ago and to be honest - we did not get along. A really good man named Tom died quite a few years ago that I would have liked to have had as a Father. His son is my best friend. He was born in Hungary and was involved in World War Two. He was a resistance fighter but was eventually captured and sent to a death camp. He survived and later fought against the Communists as Hungary was invaded. He was again imprisoned for a number of years and not allowed to leave a rather barren room. When he finally was released he found his home was gone and he left for Israel. He later came to Canada where he met the Lady he would marry. What I remember about Tom the most is the fact that even with all the things that had happened to him he was the least bitter person I had ever met. He had friends everywhere, one of them a Bishop, because he loved to talk to people and learn about them. He was an amazing man. I have the jacket he wore in the last couple of years before he passed from cancer. Man I miss him.
So I finished "Monster". I know Tenma is a doctor and took an oath to "do no harm" but I found myself wishing the Doc would have been able to kill Johan earlier on. Every time he hesitated more died and Johan knew that the guy pursuing him would let him continue for quite some time. Other characters had the same problem and in the end the most unlikely yet oddly enough clear headed person did the deed. We are not really sure whether he succeeded or not. I have heard of surgeons that have flat out refused to treat people unless they stop smoking (this sort of thing makes the news here) yet Tenma is so moral he actually operates a second time. I guess I would like him for a surgeon but as a guy tracking an emotionless killer - no way.
I think once it cools down here maybe I will watch some more "Nana". I loved the live action film and for the most part I like the anime but I find the "just out of school" Nana to be a bit annoying. She whines a lot. Singer Nana rocks but needs new songs. The other thing I did not like was all the recap episodes. I wonder how those will be handled on the official release if that happens.
It is hot here again no relief until late Tuesday. I am on a rest day from workouts. Sore muscles. I am having dreams about running again. Kinda cool.

GP's, Monster, Buffy and Supes....
So I had two appointments in two days with two different Doctors. Both of the appointments were 10 am which is no great hassle but they are not close to where I live. I am not a morning person. If I must be awake in the morning I like to walk to the first appointment. It seems a little silly at times because the appointment is for 20 minutes and it takes 40 minutes to walk there. I walk because although I work out I am finding I am not getting enough outside exercise. I feel that if I am going to eventually run again I need to get more walking in. The second appointment was with a relatively new GP. There is a distinct shortage of GPs around here and when the last one moved to a different type of job I was sorta in between GP care. I am happy with the new Doctor; probably the best GP I have had in some time. Next week I have to go for a Bone density test.
I have four more episodes of "Monster" to watch. I figured out early from the flashbacks some of the misconceptions some of the characters were under. These series always like to have a twist ...nature of the beast or Monster. I think after this I will need something a little lighter.
Hey ...anyone like "Buffy"? Specifically I mean the new comics. I haven't been in a comic store much but I have been going for these and that got me into the new JLA. I am amazed what DC does with their character art. Heroes get together and stand around all muscled or curved and fight other similar evil characters. It feels like I am watching DC playing with itself. Has anyone seen "Power Girl" lately and Supes... how does he get muscles on his chin? EWWWW !!!
