In Memory of Rachel Scott: A Victim of The Columbine Shooting
Today my class had the privilege of going to hear Darrell Scott speak. He is the father of Rachel Scott, a victim of the Columbine shooting. She was one of the first people to die in the shootings and was shot execution style for stating she believed in God.
Darrel Scott spoke on the life that his daughter led and how she desired to start a "chain reaction" of kindness and compassion. Her desire was to reach those that were hurting by showing them kindness. She wanted to reach the handicapped, the new kids or those new to her school, and those who were picked on and mistreated. Her life is a testament to anyone who claims to be a believer.
She stated in her diaries, “I won’t be Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">Label">labeled as average.” She wanted to be a missionary and an actress and was because her face is seen in several documentaries around the globe and her life is reaching hundreds and even thousands by the unbelievable insight she had. Another quote taken from her diary is Tomorrow is not a promise, it is a chance. Meaning we can die at any moment and we never know when, but we need to live our lives to glorify Him because we don’t have much time. She was not even 20 years of age, and look at how many she has reached. Don’t think that you can make a difference in someone’s life. Every person you meet you have a chance to leave an impression. Don’t miss out!
Her father left the listeners with 5 challenges:
1. Get rid of any prejudices in your life.
-prejudice is any pre-judgments we make toward a person we do not know
2. Learn to see through events, don't be someone that just looks at events (see what God is doing behind them).
-God is working all events for His will
3. Guard the influences you choose to keep for yourself.
4. Keep a Diary or for guys a "journal"
-gives an outlet to pour your heart into
-allows you to remember past friends and event
-you never know how far your influence will go
5. Make that commitment with the Lord
-never walk away from him, He never leaves us
