Finally, a Metrocon report!
Wow, everyone. Sorry my "Post-Metrocon" update has taken so long. I will post some pictures soon, but until then, here's a little something that one of my friends found while scouring YouTube: News footage of Metrocon
And yes, my roommate, Sakura02, and I were on the news (me as Rei, her as Guilty Gear's May) for a good five seconds at the beginning of that clip. XD
To sum up our Metrocon experience, we had a blast! Metrocon is known for its events, including the Anime Human Chess Match, Anime Idol singing competition, Fantasy Masquerade, midnight Matsuri Rave, and AMV, costume, and cosplay contests. I went to Metrocon last year, but I was astonished at how much the convention grew in just one year. It was hard to meet up with some people due to getting lost in the crowd, but luckily, I got to see and spend time with my good friends (Tristin, Diana, my roommate) as well as meet some awesome new people.
Friday: Right after Sakura02 and I got through the registration line, that guy's news crew approached us, and voila! Five seconds of fame. XD We browsed around in the dealer's room, and later that evening, went to the Fantasy Masquerade (which is like the anime prom) since my friend Diana was a cast member. There was a story going on, and after a song or two of dancing, the cast members would come out and act out a scene of the story. It was a big improvement over last year's dance! After the dance, Diana, Sakura02, and I called it a night and walked back to the hotel to get some shut-eye.
Saturday: After eating a breakfast at the hotel, we walked back to the convention center and got in line for the Anime Chess Match. The fight scenes this year were amazing! The cast really worked their arses off -- lots of dramatic flips and falls off stage. After the Chess Match, we saw the Cosplay contest, and later that evening, stuck around for the Anime Idol singing contest. However, the highlight for me was the midnight rave, surprisingly. We stayed out dancing (glow sticks and all) until the rave closed at 3am! There was a guy dressed as a giant stick of Pocky that the crowd went crazy for. XD You don't see a dancing giant stick of Pocky every day, now do you?
Sunday: We slept in 'til about 10 o'clock and decided to order pizza while Diana went to help one of her friends enter the costume contest. When we got the pizza, we met up at the convention center with Tristin and Diana and had a nice lunch of Domino's pizza and cheese sticks. Since none of us entered the costume contest, we just mingled around the convention center and took pictures for a while. Sakura02 sold some of her artwork, and then we went to watch the costume contest. Diana's friend, the one she escorted to the costume contest pre-judging, won "Most Creative Costume"! After the costume contest, we just mingled for a little bit longer and called it a weekend.
I'll post pictures in my next post -- I don't have time right now.
