Kikyo, in my opinion, is a lost and a solitary soul. Imagine being resurrected by a batty old demon only to realize that the hanyou you cared about (and who cared just as much about you) is in love with your reincarnation.
Depressing, isn't it?
Furthermore, you believe that Inuyasha was responsible for your death 50 years ago. Sorrow mingled with fury encompass your already turbulent soul until it becomes unbearable to co-exist with the one you love/hate the most.
