Why I find apocalyptic movies interesting
"The Day After Tomorrow" or "The Day The Earth Stood Still" for example are great movies. I can see why they would freak people out, but if you pay attention closely, it's like as if movies like these are trying to tell people something. For example, "The Day After Tomorrow" helps us to be aware of the environment. Yes yes, I know what you're thinking, and the answer is yes, I am a total tree hugger. LoL
But even though it may seem totally bogus, some of it is based on theories of things that may happen if we continue to pollute the air and damage the Earth. The Earth is all ready damaged, and some people find that there's no use in trying anymore, but I think different. I want to give it a try, I'm not going down without a fight. Recycle! Save water and energy! I mean really, do you want the things that happened in that movie to happen in real life? I don't think so.
The next movie which I absolutely love is "The Day The Earth Stood Still". It teaches us that our world is dying. People's actions aren't just causing other peoples' sufferings, but the environment and world as a whole. Where have the common sense, compassion, caring, and many other things gone? That relates so much to reality. War and senseless killings everywhere. Then, there was something that hit me in the movie. The professor said that usually people don't see what's wrong until they have hit rock bottom or are near the end. They have a realization point. And he was saying how this is our moment, let us have our realization point. That usually is true. Then I got to thinking, have we had our realization point yet? And if we have, or when we do, what will we do to change what's wrong? Will we know that it's our doom and do nothing about it? Or are we willing to change?
With this thought, I began contemplating on another topic. People are always saying that "It's time for change" and a lot of people agree. But what it really that needs to be changed? If anything is going to be changed, then it should be for the BETTER and NOT for the WORSE.
Most of the time apocalyptic movies have a great deal of things that society should really look into and think about, what the big things are, but also the small things. LoL or maybe it's just me and my over-thinking. :-S
