Thunder Road: Kikyo’s path
*episode 4*
*flashback continues*
Miroku sits back up and rubs his eye. Half of his face is turning the same shade of blue as his robe. He says, “That out burst does nothing to disprove my claim. However, I’m willing to suggest an alternative without even requiring you to apologize.” With a humph of indignation, Kikyo indicates that she is listening. Miroku says, “Before I was so rudely interrupted, I was going to suggest that there might in fact be another possibility. While you clearly lack elements necessary to be considered to be the full soul of Kikyo; those traits may simply be suppressed. An emotion as powerful as the rage Kikyo must have felt can take on a life of its own. It is possible that you carry within you both a complete copy of Kikyo’s soul, and this living hatred. If so, it may be possible for you to purify yourself of the less virtuous of these elements; and return to being Kikyo herself.” “And how,” she asks, “would you recommend achieving this?” The monk says, “I have no idea; however, I offer you an alternative to simply brooding over your failure to draw Inuyasha with you into the netherworld. As for the means, I can only say that it would take a great source of purifying energy to achieve such an end. Also, you would need to show a remarkable amount of will power. But unless you’d like to reconsider my initial offer…” a cold stony stare is all the answer he needs, “…then I can think of no better course for you.” Deep in thought, Kikyo left the sacred place and Miroku was left alone until Kagome, Inuyasha, and Kagura came to get him. Much to his surprise, Inuyasha did not seem to be able to distinguish Kikyo’s scent from the other strange sensations he received in the holy forest.

Thunder Road: Kikyo’s path
*episode 3*
*flashback continues*
“Then you assumed wrong!”
“My apologies,” Miroku says, “But in that case you have even less standing in Inuyasha’s heart than I assumed you did before. My point remains that your desire to posses Inuyasha is not to be fulfilled. Your rage will not be satisfied.” Kikyo says, “There is nothing for me in this world, except for rage.” Miroku says, “That is not a sentiment which I would associate with the late priestess. True, I was born far too late to have met her; but I have spoken much with the lady Kaede and other villagers old enough to have known her. They all talk of her tenderness and her forgiving nature. If you lack these traits, I can only wonder if you are indeed Kikyo.” She asks, “Are you suggesting that I am not?” Miroku says, “Yes and no. From what I understand, you and Kagome battled for the soul which was once Kikyo’s. When this battle concluded, you both had life; meaning that you each had a portion of that soul. But if you are unable to progress past anger; perhaps that is all you posses. If you know only hatred, maybe you are merely Kikyo’s hatred from her dying moments. If this is so, then Kagome still bears almost all of Kikyo’s soul; and you are nothing more than a clay counterfeit.” POW This blow has none of the tenderness of Sango’s slaps; she flat out punches him in the face, knocking him over.

Thunder Road: Kikyo’s path
*episode 2*
As the group settles down to sleep in Kaede’s village, everyone is worried about Sango; but most of them are sure she can take care of herself; especially with Kirara at her side. Miroku allows his thoughts to drift to another woman, and a strange encounter he will not soon forget.
*flashback*
Miroku had fled from Sango’s wrath to a shrine built as a sanctuary for wandering clergy. Upon his arrival, he had been surprised to find Kikyo also at the shrine. He does not know of her recent encounter with Inuyasha and Kagome; but her mood is clearly one of discomfort. After approaching her alone by a sacred pool; Miroku asks, “Would you bear my child…lady Kikyo?” Mostly puzzled, she says, “You jest monk.” Miroku shakes his head. She says, “That would not be possible; my body is of clay.” The monk says, “And yet you bleed. You certainly risk death. Unless you have tried before now, how can you be certain that it is beyond your capacity?” She asks, “Even if I could, why would I wish to.” He says, “It is obvious to one traveling in there company, that Inuyasha and Kagome grow dearer to each other by the day. Your plans for him have all but failed; I thought to offer you a different future.” “What future could a ghost have?” she asks. He tells her, “But you are not a specter; not in the common sense. Such spirits have no true body; though they may assume the guise of one at times. You however, have a mortal coil to which you are confined. Surely you are alive, in a sense; and as such you may seek a future as one of the living.” Smirking, she says, “Even if that were so, why would I choose to live as your woman? I was…I am a shrine maiden.” He says, “And yet you chose to live as Inuyasha’s woman. Surly your vows ended in his bed.” Kikyo says, “It is clear that the half-demon has been bragging with no regard for truth.” Miroku says, “Actually, he has never discussed the subject. I merely assumed…” She snaps, “Then you assumed wrong!

Thunder Road: Kikyo’s path
*episode 1*
The specter Kikyo walks a lonely road in the moon light. As she does, she reflects on the circumstances which have led her to this path.
*memory*
Some time ago, Kikyo had observed Inuyasha sharing a tender moment on the roof of an inn. Shortly afterwards, as she was filled with anger at Inuyasha’s obvious growing attraction to the living girl, Naraku sought her and told her how she could eliminate the obstacle to her goal. He gave her a jewel shard so she could travel through the well to attack Kagome in her own time; where she would be alone and vulnerable. By a twist of fate (or the will of the author) this happened to fall on the night of the full moon when Inuyasha had retreated to the relative safety of Kagome’s home. Kikyo encountered the two under the glow of strange lamps which had no flame. Following an exchange of harsh words, ultimatums, and a well placed smack form Kagome to Kikyo; Kikyo attack, gravely wounding Inuyasha in his weakened state. Before she could finish him off, Kagome harnessed priestly powers she hadn’t know she had; and forced Kikyo back through the well.

The Jackson Cage: Tragic fate
*episode 7*
Kirara is speeding into the sunset; but going nowhere. Sango needs time, so she’s just going to run until her friend has had enough. Sango is trying to let the rushing air clear her head, but she is overwhelmed by the days happenings. It is to her great surprise that the flame-cat suddenly stops short and calls for her attention. Sango takes a moment to scan her surroundings before she sees what Kirara had already noticed. Bellow her is a forest; standing in a clearing, in plain sight, is a figure shrouded in the skin of a white baboon. Kirara is clearly unsure of weather or not they should approach, and she waits until Sango urges her onward. The two land, and Sango jumps clear of Kirara. She calls, “Naraku, come to gloat; have you?!?” Sango believes herself to be talking to a demon puppet; not a bad assumption. However, to her surprise, the figure casts aside the baboon skin. “You came in person?” she asks. The demon replies, “Some things are worth the risk. I trust you got my message.” The anger in her eyes is all the answer he needs. She says, “You didn’t need to kill him; I wasn’t going to accept his offer!” Naraku tells her, “It was enough that he offered; besides that, he had the impudence to seek me out.” Sango’s eyes burn with rage, she pulls the Hiraikotsu off her shoulder and charges. He raises an arm in defense, and is surprised when it is spilt in two. “Sango,” he says, “You’ve gotten stronger.” As she raises her weapon for another attack, Naraku raises a barrier between them. The Hiraikotsu slams against it and bounces off, harmlessly. Naraku says, “If you had Inuyasha with you now; you might have been able to kill me. But you cannot win on your own.” Allowing her rage to boil over, Sango begins to batter the barrier again and again. She makes no progress, but she lets her anger flow through her mussels. Eventually, Naraku gathers a sphere of dark energy in his hand. He pushes it into the barrier; and on her next attack, the energy travels up Sango’s weapon and blasts her off her feet. She falls to the ground, unconscious; and Kirara steps defensively between her and the demon. Naraku says, “Yes Sango; let your hatred for me grow. I have much more suffering in store for you. But my plans do not end there.” That said, the demon turns and walks off.

The Jackson Cage: Tragic fate
*episode 6*
Sango and Kagura return to the others, the old steward says, “Lady Sango, the lord had cousins, lords of their own domains. Messengers have been sent, and soon one of them will come to claim his lands. However, until that time, I govern in lord Kuranosuke’s name. While it is thus, you are most welcome here; although I cannot speak for afterwards.” Sango shakes her head, “No, thank you, but we will leave now.” The group walks outside of the castle and Sango turns to the rest. She says, “I…I need to be alone now. Go back to Kaede’s village, Kirara and I will join you before morning.” Sango watches as the others depart. She needs some time to herself; and her old friend knows how to respect her privacy.

The Jackson Cage: Tragic fate
*episode 5*
The story concluded, Sango stands and walks out of the room. Nervous glances travel through the group as everyone wonders who will go after her. Much to everyone’s surprise, Kagura is the one who gets to her feet and follows her. Sango is standing, looking out, through a hole burned in the wall, at the sky. Kagura asks, “Did you love him?” Sango shakes her head. She says, “No, but he loved me…and he’s dead because of it. It’s my fault; he didn’t deserve it.” Kagura doesn’t deny the first statement; but she addresses the second, “Sango, when Naraku even bothers to weigh the merits of his victims; he chooses those who least deserve it. He is more than demonic; he is sadistic. Naraku did this to cause you pain.” Sango says, “I know.” Kagura stands for a moment in thought. Finally, she says, “That’s all I have to say. I’m sorry, I’m new to comforting people.” Sango turns to her with a sad smile, “Thank you for trying.”
