Deep Wounds: An Inuyasha & Kagome Story
*episode 3*
Kagome is standing in a field of flowers. Inuyasha stands before her, his hair swaying in the wind. Kagome runs toward him, but although he is standing still, she can not close the distance between them. Then Kagome sees Kikyo standing beside him wearing the whole sacred jewel; she walks toward him and draws the Tetsusaiga. Inuyasha kneels before the priestesses. She thrusts the sword into Inuyasha’s heart to the hilt. His eyes flash demon red as crimson blood pours from his chest. Kikio draws her bow to place a final shot in the demon’s face. Suddenly Kagome can move and she runs toward Inuyasha, she almost reaches him. Then she is being held back. Naraku is clutching her and she can’t reach Inuyasha. Kikyo lets her arrow fly. In the instant it would strike, the world is consumed by flames from the jewel and Kagome is falling. She is in the well and she is falling forever through fire and pain. Naraku is above her falling faster then she is, in a few seconds he will crush her. And in the moment she hits the ground she knows she can never return, she will never see Sango or Miroku or Shippo or Kirara again. But more then that, she knows in that instant that she has lost Inuyasha and a cry to rend the heart of any who heard it tears from her mouth and shatters this world.
Inuyasha is resting against Kagome’s wall, watching her sleep when he sees a brief smile on her lips. In a moment, the smile is replaced by a frown. Kagome shows signs of agitation and Inuyasha moves to her bedside. She becomes more and more disturbed until she begins to whimper. Then she screams, a scream which tells of pain and loss and heartache. Inuyasha grabs her shoulder, “Kagome wake up!” Suddenly she grabs his wrist and clutches it to her, “Inuyasha! Inuyasha! I-nu-ya-sha!” Through her sobs she hears his voice, “Kagome! I’m right here! It’s all right.” He touches her cheek and her tear filled eyes open and focus on his face. “I thought I’d lost you.” she said. Just then the door bursts open and Kagome’s whole family piles into the room. Kagome shouts through the resulting din, “It’s alright! It was just a bad dream. Everybody go back to bed.” After a little more confusion, her family departs. She says, “Good night Inuyasha.” “Good night Kagome.” he says. “…Hey Kagome? Do you think I could have my hand back?” he asks. “Oh.” She says. She gives his wrist a final squeeze and lets go.
