Deep Wounds: An Inuyasha & Kagome Story
*episode 6*
The days stretch into a week, and the five live together and are happy. But time heals all wounds, and on the eighth day Kagome and Inuyasha return through the well together. On the other side, the sun is hidden by dark clouds. As they emerge from the well, they are both overwhelmed by the demonic aura. Noises come from Kaede’s village, along with the sent of death.
The two run through the woods and come upon the scene of destruction. The village is aflame. The stench of burning corpses rises from the inferno. Dead and wounded villagers lie about as others try to pull them from the flames. There is no sign of the old priestess. Above the town soars a demon. A giant beast with wings, it swoops down to destroy more. Just then, something rises up to challenge the monster and drives it back, for the moment. The Hiraikotsan returns to its wielder who stands at the highest point in the village and waits for the next pass. As Kagome runs, she sees a familiar form and heads to Kirara. Shippo is with her and she is pulling villagers from a burning building. “Shippo! Are there any more inside?” “Kagome! No, that’s the last of them. Kirara, go get the next house. It’s a good thing you two got here when you did.” “What happened?” She asks. The fox-child replies, “Naraku showed up a while ago and Sango and Miroku went out to confront him. They said some stuff, then that thing came. Narku laughed and then he left. Miroku tried to take it into his wind tunnel, but it shot out the biggest blast of demonic energy I’ve ever seen. Miroku collapsed on that hill, Sango is protecting him and the village as much as she can but she’s just one person.” “Well now we’re here.” Kagome says. “Right.” Inuyasha adds.
The two hurry up the hill to where the exhausted demon slayer stands over the unconscious monk. “Sango!” Kagome calls. “Kagome!” says the slayer, her relief showing in her voice. “Take Miroku and get out of here.” Inuyasha calls. “We’ll take care of this thing.” Sango grabs Miroku and begins carrying him down the hill. Kagome strings her bow. “I can get him.” She says. “Even if you don’t, he’ll come after you and then I’ll take him down.” adds Inuyasha. Kagome’s sacred arrow flies true, but at the last moment, the creature moves with godlike speed and dodges the missile. As Inuyasha predicted, the demon turns to face this new foe head on. As it approaches, Inuyasha leaps to intercept the beast. He unleashes the windscar at pointblank range. Again the creature moves, faster then the eye can follow and escapes the attack. In an instant, it is behind Inuyasha and it has not lost site of its original objective. Inuyasha turns in horror just in time to see a mighty talon pierce Kagome’s pure white blouse, drenching it in her red blood.
