Dancing In The Dark: Meridian
*episode 5*

Shippo is sleeping alone in a corner of Mushin’s home. He misses Kagome and in her absence insists on sleeping alone. Suddenly he feels someone picking him up. As he slowly begins to wake up, his first thought is that Kagome is back. As he is carried into the moonlight, he realizes that she smells wrong. A voice says, “Shippo…Shippo…wake up Shippo.” Gradually, he works his eyes open and looks up. He is being held by Kohaku, who is standing next to Kirara, in his armor. Shaking himself awake, Shippo asks, “Kohaku, what’s going on? You’re hurt, you should be in bed.” Kohaku says, “We’ve both healed; and now there’s something we need to do. Shippo, do you remember Tattoimaru?” At the mention of that name, Shippo comes fully awake. The slayer continues, “He’s out there now; waiting for me. I have to go face him. Kirara and I both have to.” Shippo says, “But you’re just a kid. Shouldn’t you leave that to Inuyasha?” Kohaku says, “No Shippo, others can be left to him; but this is one I have to deal with myself. We’re going now. I need you to not tell anyone until tomorrow morning.” Shippo thinks, then he says, “No. I’m going to go tell Kagura, right now.” As the foxling tries to get lose, Kohaku reaches for a bag at his waist. Sticking a finger in, he says, “I thought you would say that.” He brings his finger to Shippo’s nose. As the vapors rising from the green paste on Kohaku’s had reach Shippo’s nose, Kohaku says, “Sleep Shippo.” Shippo tries to call out, but his voice won’t comply. As he loses consciousness, he hears Kohaku say, “Tell my sister, I’m sorry.”
