Running To Stand Still: The hidden ones
*episode 15*

Standing alone with Yamaneko behind the hut, Miroku says, “A number of things confuse me, not the least of which is why you would reject my suit and yet allow us to live.” Yamaneko says, “Your suit is not being rejected; not entirely.” Miroku says, “I’m still not sure where the problem, lies.” She says, “This curse of which you speak, is proof in your very flesh that three generations of your family have lost to this demon. The father cannot come from a line of losers.” “But I have not lost.” Miroku says. Yamaneko replies, “You have yet to defeat him and that is defeat enough. However; we have been 8 years without a father.” He says, “I can see how that would concern you.” The ninja nods, “In that time, you are the closest we have come to an acceptable candidate. It has been decided that you shall be given one year. Slay this demon and rid yourself of his curse by then; and we shall accept you as father. Fail, and we shall resume our search. A word of caution, if you return after the given year; victorious or not, you will be killed.” The monk nods his acceptance. No longer speaking as the voice of the village, Yamaneko’s face softens and she says, “Good luck.” She leads him back around the hut and guides the group to a path leading through the forest.
