She Moves In Mysterious Ways: Da-ku vs Kagome
*episode 5*
Shippo doesn’t know how long he’s in the darkness; but it feels like an eternity. He doesn’t know when consciousness gave way to unconsciousness; the insects grasp stay with him into his dreams. His first hint of awakening is the sensation that something is moving just out of reach; something big. He slowly opens his eyes; and sees other eyes looking back at him. As he snaps awake, he sees a host of demons staring at him. They look hungry. He screams as they pounce at him; and continues screaming until well after they have been repelled by a demonic barrier. He looks left and right and sees that the cave he is in is flooded with demons. A single powerful barrier holds them all back; leaving him in a clearing in the center. Suddenly, he hears a malicious laugh from behind him. Freezing, he instinctively hopes that if he doesn’t move he won’t be noticed. But his terrified rational mind knows who it is behind him; and that he is the source of his amusement. Knowing this, and that he is alone, only one person’s presence could possibly make things worse. Not surprisingly, he hears that person’s voice, also from behind him, “Are you really sure you want that rodent to be a part of you? I still fail to understand what purpose he could possibly serve.” Another voice, the laugher, says, “Father, trust me; please. He serves a purpose.” Shippo turns around and sees Naraku towering over Tattoimaru. The former looks at him dispassionately, while the latter looks gleeful. Shippo scampers back until he collides with the barrier; then he turns and hurries away from the dangers it contains. Naraku says, “He seems to be searching for a rock to scuttle under.” The boy says to the foxling, “You’re safe for the moment; but there is no escape.”
