Mesuinu: a tale of Inuyasha
*episode 4*
Inuyasha has been traveling with Mesu for several days. He’s not sure if he trusts her; but that doesn’t seem to bother her. From what he can tell, she seems to go wherever, and whenever she feels like. He can’t help feeling infected by a sense of optimism she seems to emanate unintentionally. For once in his life, he’s not on the run; it’s almost as if they were chasing something; some dream or idea that was theirs to capture. Evening has come, and they have crested a ridge which smells of humans. Standing on the top, they see the castle of a feudal lord. Inuyasha has learned to avoid such places; and is surprised when Mesu says, “Come on.” and begins to move toward it. He grabs her wrist and says, “What are you doing?” Turning back to him, she says, “We’re gonna raid it; let’s go.” “Raid?” he asks, “What for?” She rolls her eyes, “For fun, Inuyasha; just as a way to have fun.” He says, “No, I’m not gonna kill anyone.” She says, “Who said anything about killing? We go down, bust open a few walls, ruff up the soldiers, scare the pampered nobles, rummage through their stuff, and leave. You’ll enjoy it; come on.” Inuyasha hesitates. Mesu turns to him and says, “Listen, you’re gonna have to make a choice: either you live your life as a human, or as a demon. Now, are you coming?” After a few seconds of thought, Inuyasha nods.
