Mesuinu: a tale of Inuyasha
*episode 15*
Sesshomaru can sense the great demonic aura’s encroaching on his domain. He can also sense a pair of lesser ones which would normally merit his attention; however, at the moment, he has larger concerns. One of the auras breaks from the pack and forges ahead; however, before he can move to confront the demon, he turns and heads back in the direction from which he came. Sesshomaru turns his attention to the main force. Leaving Jaken, who would only get in the way, Sesshomaru moves to greet these new comers; with his claws. Placing himself in the path of the storm, Sesshomaru merely waits. From the north, a mighty demon appears on a pillar of smoke. He is at least as tall as Sesshomaru, clearly older; and his brow bears an emblem in the shape of a forked line. Behind him come 3 lesser demons; his sons. He lands and approaches Sesshomaru; he says, “I greet the lord of the western lands as friend and equal.” “Equal, perhaps; but friendship remains to be seen.” Sesshomaru says. One of the younger demons growls; the father says, “Enough!” He turns back to Sesshomaru, “My sons, Debamaru, Yarimaru, and Yaibamaru.” Sesshomaru says, “I am not interested in pleasantries. Why are you on my land?” The old demon says, “I knew your father, I respected him. His loss saddened me greatly.” Sesshomaru says, “You have not answered my question.” The elder says, “We are tracking our prey; it has fled into your domain. We cannot let it escape; it is a matter of honor. Oh course, we would not think of crossing your land without your permission. In light of that, we bring you a gift. Yaibamaru.” One of the younger demons steps forward. He unslings a cloth from his shoulder, lowers it to the ground and unrolls it. From inside, he withdraws a large egg. The old demon says, “This egg contains a rare beast; a two-headed dragon. I offer it to you in the hope that it will increase your understanding of our needs.” Sesshomaru says, “I accept your gift, and grant you passage; less for the gift itself than for your honor. However, I must know what this prey is. The affront to your honor may remain private; but the identity of that which you hunt on my land may not.” The old demon says, “I thank you for your understanding; the beast is a half-breed named Inuyasha.” Sesshomaru’s eyebrows slightly rise at the name of his brother. This does not go unnoticed by the older demon. He says, “You know him? Could this half-breed be the so…” Sesshomaru interrupts, “He is of no concern of mine. You have 4 days; do with him what you will. After that, you are to be out of my domain.” The elder demon nods; and he and his brood continue on their way. Sesshomaru approaches the egg; giving serious thought to abandoning it there. After several moments’ thought, he stoops to pick it up. Perhaps it will amuse Jaken; or at least keep him busy and less annoying.
