Mesuinu: a tale of Inuyasha
*episode 16*

Inuyasha and Mesu are up and running again. They have covered a lot of territory; but their pursuers are gradually catching up to them. At long last the can tell that two of the four have broken ahead and are now running one on either side of them. Mesu tells Inuyasha to stop; this has to be dealt with now. The two demons close in from the north and the south; and arrive at roughly the same time. They look very much alike, they have the same mark on their brows as Ryuumaru; and they don’t look friendly. Mesu and Inuyasha stand back to back; the others circle slowly. Mesu says, “Debamaru and Yarimaru; the stupid twins.” One of them says, “Tough talk…” The other one finishes his sentence, “…coming from a little girl.” Inuyasha asks, “Do they always do that?” Mesu says, “Yes; it’s annoying.” Speaking to her brothers, she says, “Yes, I’m a girl; and you’ve always hid me behind that. As a result, you have no idea what I’m capable of. If you were smart, which you’re not, you wouldn’t be so overconfident.” “Surprisingly…” one says. “…father seems to think that way.” The other concludes. “He sent us…” The first one says, “…to slow you down. But we think…” His companion continues, “…we can take you on and…” The first again, “…have your little toy’s head waiting to give to father when he arrives.” Inuyasha says, “You’re right, it is annoying.” Mesu says, “Look Inuyasha; focus on staying alive, I’ll deal with them.” Inuyasha says, “But…” She cuts him off, “Just because they’re stupid doesn’t mean they’re weak. Keep one of them busy without getting your head torn off; that’s all.” Inuyasha doesn’t look happy; but he nods his consent. The brothers continue to circle around the pair; Inuyasha doesn’t see who moves first; but one of the brothers is suddenly in his face and the other one is attacking Mesu. Inuyasha blocks several claw thrusts, but it quickly becomes clear that he can’t keep up. He does what Mesu tells him, he focuses on not getting killed. The demon makes repeated attacks; but finally forces Inuyasha onto his back. As the brother is about to place the final killing blow, Inuyasha tries a daring move. He’s only seen it performed once; but necessity is often a better teacher than practice. “Iron Reaver, Soul Stealer!” he shouts as his claws move in a way they never have before. The demon goes flying, blood dripping from 4 separate wounds. Inuyasha looks to Mesu’s battle, and sees that the other brother is momentarily distracted by his attack. Mesu takes advantage of this and cuts a large gash in her brother’s cheek. He jumps back and moves to his brother. The heavily wound one says, “So little sister…” The other says, “…you would pass our family’s techniques on to this vermin? Father will not…” His brother concludes, “…be pleased.” With that said, the two limp off with one supporting the other.
