Mesuinu: a tale of Inuyasha
*episode 20*

“I’ll…I’ll come home.”
Mesu’s father says, “That is no longer enough. I need you to obey my will and accept the mate I have chosen for you.” She says, “Put him down and we’ll talk. He isn’t going anywhere.” He drops Inuyasha and his claws slowly lose the energy they had accumulated. He turns to her and says, “These western lords can no longer be allowed to act recklessly on their own. We must bring lord Sesshomaru into our fold; we must gain control of him for his sake as well as our own. You have been chosen to connect him to us; you will be his mate. Do so, and I will spare the mongrel.” There is a long empty moment; then Mesu lets go of her brother’s throat. She makes the smallest inclination of her head; but her acceptance is obvious. She says, “Give us 5 minutes alone; then I’ll go.” Her father nods curtly; he then says, “Do not try to run; or he will die. Yaibamaru, tend to your weak brothers.” The younger demon does indeed go to his brothers and begin to examine their wounds; meanwhile the old one walks to an aloof distance giving Inuyasha and Mesu a modicum of privacy. She walks over to where he kneels, she tilts his chin up so she can look at the bruises her father had left on his throat, and she says, “You’re a mess; you know that?” Inuyasha says, attempting to not be overheard, “Just keep talking; 5 minutes is all I need, then I’ll be back on my feet. You were right, we can’t beat them; so we run.” She shakes her head, “Inuyasha, you won’t be able to run again any time soon. No, I’m going to your brother; that’s how it has to be.” Dropping the quiet voice, Inuyasha blurts out, “He’s not the one you want: I am!” She looks at him questioningly. He blushes and can’t meet her eyes. Going back to speaking softly, he says, “I…I know you were watching me, when I bathed in the hot spring. I could smell you; you smelled like…” She says, “Go ahead and say it.” Blushing even more, he says, “You smelled like a bitch in heat.” She drops to one knee and puts a hand on his cheek. She says, “That sounds about right; and in a perfect world that would be enough. But right now I either do what my father tells me; or watch you die. I think that’s a real easy choice.” Inuyasha is about to object; but she silences him with a brief kiss. She then stands and turns to her father, “I’m ready.” The old demon nods, he says, “Yaibamaru, bring him.” As her brother walks to collect Inuyasha, Mesu says, “Now wait just a minute!” Her father interjects, “I wish I could accept your word of honor; but you have proven time and time again that honor means nothing to you. We will bring the half-breed with us as insurance. However, I give you my word that after Sesshomaru has taken you as his mate; the half-breed will be released. You know that I will hold true to that.” Yaibamaru walks to Inuyasha; he tries to grab him but Inuyasha resists. Yaibamaru hits him until he stops moving; then he throws him over his shoulder and turns to his father. The father says, “Very well, let us go.”
