Mesuinu: a tale of Inuyasha
*episode 21*
Sesshomaru can smell the demons returning as well as sense their demonic auras. However, he can also smell something he did not expect to smell again; his brother’s living scent. As they land and approach him, he evaluates them with a cold stare. The father and his eldest son seem unscathed by their endeavor; however the two younger sons are covered in their own blood and have fresh wounds. The eldest is carrying Inuyasha who has his own sets of injuries. What mildly surprises Sesshomaru is the sixth member of their group. It is a female demon; by sight and scent clearly of the northern clan. However Sesshomaru distinctly remembers her not having been with them when they entered his domain. She has a number of small wounds; although they are minor compared to those bourn by the other injured demons. What Sesshomaru notices most is her eyes; even though they seem dejected, defeated, and resigned to some fate; they still have a fiery strength in them. Turning his attention to the patriarch, Sesshomaru says, “I see you have captured your prey; I congratulate you. However, I was under the impression that you intended to kill it.” The old demon responds, “That is correct; however, circumstances have required me to grant it at least a respite. Depending upon the events to come, I may be honor bound to release it. If you have reason to want it dead, you may dispatch it after that point. But enough of him; I have sought you on another matter. You said on our last meeting that we were equals; but not friends. I propose to change that. Demons with pedigrees such as our own are few and far between. I propose an alliance between the north and the lands of the west. As a gift to cement that alliance; I give you my daughter as a mate. Her breeding is impeccable; and while she can be at times a bit willful, I am certain that she will be well with in your power to control.” Sesshomaru turns his attention to Mesu. He asks, “What do you say to this, girl?” Her father says, “She is happy to do her duty to her clan.” Sesshomaru looks coldly at him. He then tells Mesu, “Step forward.” She does; silently, obediently, but still seeming to emanate defiance. Sesshomaru steps to her. He looks her up and down; but his focus is clearly on his sense of smell. “She is not acceptable.” he says to the old demon.
