Mesuinu: a tale of Inuyasha
*episode 22*

“She is not acceptable.”
Before he can respond, Sesshomaru continues, “Her breeding and personality may be, as you say. But her behavior is not acceptable.” He turns to her, “You reek of the half-breed. This is not the scent of battling him; it comes from close proximity over a long duration. The nature of your families dishonor is clear to me now; and I refuse to have my father’s bastard’s leftovers.” The old demon turns to his daughter and says, “Mesu, did you give yourself to that beast?!?” She says, clearly trying to aggravate her father, “No; he refused my advances.” Sesshomaru says, “The act is irrelevant; if she would have him, she is not fit for me.” Mesu’s father says, “Are you willing to allow this indiscretion to jeopardize this alliance?” “I will” Sesshomaru says. The old demon sighs. He turns to Yaibamaru; he says, “Kill him.” “What!?!” Mesu shouts. “You said you wouldn’t kill him!” Her father says, “I said, if you were mated to Sesshomaru; your actions have prevented that. If we let it live we can only assume you will seek to leave us to rejoin it; and I do not intend to keep it as a pet. Yaibamaru, now.” The younger demon brings the half-demon around and wraps his hand around his throat. Mesu begins to move toward her brother, but Sesshomaru grabs her by the shoulder. What happens next is fast, intense, and driven by instinct. Mesu spins around and drives her claws into Sesshomaru’s gut. She slices through his armor and rips into his stomach. Without thinking or flinching, Sesshomaru thrusts his claws through her throat and into her spine. Inuyasha falls to the ground, discarded, as Yaibamaru rushes to his sister. He catches her as she falls; but it’s obviously too late. Sesshomaru clutches the hole in his abdomen, clearly a serious wound. However, he maintains his composure as he turns to the old demon and says, “Take your wounded, and if you wish your dead as well. Leave my land. Go back to the north and never return.” The father gestures to his sons and turns to leave. As he sees Yaibamaru begin to carry Mesu’s body, he commands, “Leave her.” His tone is flat, his voice is firm, it is clear that he will hear no argument. Yaibamaru does as he is told and leaves his sister’s corpse. The twins say, “Father…what about him?” They are indicating Inuyasha who is dragging himself toward Mesu’s remains. The old demon say with a sneer, “Leave him with his brother.” With that, the four males of the north lands depart; and the brothers never see any of them again.
