The Asagao

Kagome has come home from an exhausting series of tests and collapsed on her bed. That was probably at least two hours ago she knows as she wakes up from her little nap. Looking over at her clock only confirms what she had known; in fact, Inuyasha should be coming to get her anytime now…something about that last thought seems not quite right. She looks groggily around her room. It takes her two passes to register the red and silver object sitting beneath her window looking at her. She rubs her eyes and looks again. Inuyasha is sitting on the floor of her room watching her nap. His eyes are distant; it seems that while she was originally his object of focus, his mind has wondered. She pulls herself upright and calls him back to the present by saying, while yawning, “Inuyaaaaaasha.” His eyes snap back and he looks at her with some embarrassment showing. It is after seeing this that Kagome realizes that Inuyasha is holding, of all things, a bouquet of wildflowers. That is, if you can call four blossoms a bouquet. They are all a small, blue flower with a white center. She asks, “What are those for?” He looks where she’s pointing; clearly having forgotten what he was holding. He stammers, “Uh…these are…I mean…uh…” Finally getting his story straight, he says, “They’re for you.” He hands them to her clumsily. She takes them and looks at them. She says, “Inuyasha, coming from you; that’s incredibly sweet. I don’t know how to tell you this; but…” He looks at her questioningly. She says, “These flowers represent death.” “What!?!” he shouts defensively. She says, “You don’t have to yell; I’m not blaming you!” He gets up and walks out of the room muttering, “See if I try and be nice to you again.” Kagome has gotten fairly good at measuring Inuyasha’s reactions; and something tells her he was trying to hide something in that exchange. But she has no idea what.
