OOOPS!
;;blush:: Kinda messed up the code for the picture on the last post so here it is:

(Jumping up and down)-- The housepainter came, and the job will be finished today! All the windows bushes are covered with translucent plastic-- I briefly imaginined that this what windows must have been like in Edo, being covered with paper and not transparent.

The relative cool down (92 F) is over, and the next heat wave is on-- heat warnings on the news this morning-- when the temps were I work have been up to 105 F-- I would like to know what the "warning" is about. Before I left for work, I lowered the thermistat a little for the parrots because the afternoons get awfully hot. The painter was fascinated by the little parrot, because though it was warm, the bird wriggled around and showed the painter his ball with a bell in it. This weekend is work, and the sciatica is really bad. I would stay in the standby room tonite, but I have to run home to pay the painter.

To add a little serenity spot for good friends, here is another picture from the Morikami Garderns. I would love to go back there, it was so wonderful:

And thanks for the virtual lemonade, because this weekend , I think I'm going to need it! Enjoy!

Could it be a little cooler?
Hmm.... the baby ducks were happily swimming again in the pond, making little peep sounds. I had to go out at noon, and braced myself for a blast of furnace hot air, but surprise! It was finally less than 102-- it was 91, and didn't feel too bad. Looks like a go for house painting tomorrow! (Maybe I should get a weather update from NASA !) I like the new weather thing on Yahoo... they use the service from the weather channel, which always has interesting facts. If you watch cable or satellite TV, what are your favorite non anime channels? I like History Channel, and yes I do watch the Weather Channel, Sci Fi and TNT (love all the episodes of Law and Order !) I usually forget the endings of Tv shows and movies so by the middle of the program, it doesn't seem like a rerun. I usually knit while watching TV-- trying to finish up a blanket-- with the heat going down, maybe the air conditioning will be a lot more effective! But its never too hot to watch anime! This weekend is my standby weekend-- if it is too warm then, I'll use the standby room because it is a lot cooler. But, ARGH! I don't like to work on weekends. Oh, well, we all have to do it here.

Well, another picture-- I thought this costume was interesting (don't know what manga or anime its from)

Have a good one, hope you all get a little refreshment from the heat!

If we ever needed anime
The hot weather, world tragedies, bad events. Good reasons to add some anime to the day to go forward. Not to ignore painful things, but to get enough light heartedness to go forth, and do something good. A bit of seriousness-- but I put 2 candles in the window, with hopes that things can de-escalate, so people will be safe.
And now , I will move on.

Reading comments and post from friends brightens the day up a lot! The big fires are coming under containment... all the smoke changes the colours of the sunsets-- the whole sky lights up and changes hue with sunset. (will have to take a picture of that). So far so good going to 2 offices, but this will change in August-- I will be going twice a week, and the responsibilities will increase. We'll just see (I'll have to bring a big bag of my rice crackers that day! They help me do the paperwork) The heat and gas prices really seem to cut into peoples travelling, and the timing of chores. It took me 2 hours during the weekend to get ready to go into the heat. The neighborhood has been so quiet, you could hear a pin drop. Well, this week the house finally gets painted! Then more work on the inside, like my infamous home office.

Its been so hot, the ducks spend part of the time hiding in the ivy to get cool. Big M says maybe they don't go in the ponds, because then they'd become duck soup with this heat! There are few things as cute and comical to me as a duck. I do love to watch them briefly before I walk into the office.

Just a little silliness to start the day:

For Kitsune Tsuke:

Wishing good friends a shady tree to sit under, and a cool glass of lemonade (or green tea!)

Back to Work
ARG! Its too hot! And now its Monday-- back to work, but there's so much to get done at home. The heat at home just scrambles my brains, I misplace things, and everything just takes so long to do. At least I have finally gotten the blessings of the Homeowners Association to get my house painted, and the painter is coming out on Thursday. Have to work this weekend (I'll be out of the heat, but working 12 days in a row wears me out !) Oh, well. There have been several brushfires and one big one within 20 miles of work (one was just 1/2 mile away).. the heat has been so bad, the grass is dried and crispy. San Diego County has a good solution-- they rented goats and a hearder to consume the burnable bushes that start it all!

Well, in a different vein, like CosmicSailor commented, what was a bit different this year about AX was that it reminded me of Street Theater. Has anyone been to San Francisco? There's an area near Fisherman's Wharf loaded with street performers of all kinds, magicians, folk singers, (and yes even mimes). In a way, some of the funny things I saw reminded me of Street Theater... a few more pictures:

( I really like Pocky-- there were even purses plastered with the Pocky images. Where those Pockybooks? I know bad pun, my mother used to call purses Pockabooks)

I lightened this one up-- the details of the costure were great. What made this funny was to see the "alien" strolling through the convention center with a Starbucks beverage. Hey aliens get thirsty.

If you don't get CN, they now have a website to watch anime on :
www.toonamijetstream.com... it is up and running! 2 new animes Prince of Tennis, and MAR, and some favorites like Naruto. Check it out!

Well, time to get back to earning my bread , and trying to get organized. Wishing fun and enjoyment to wonderful friends!

Who needs reality
When I came to work, I found a magazine someone left behind with an add that said: Exit Reality! (advertising a new show based on Stephen King"s Nightmares and Dreamscapes) Yup, love Stephen King-- actually scared myself silly when I read The Shining (so of course I read The Stand and really loved it) Anyway, that little message this morning encouraged me to think more about recent AX 2006-- so here are some more pictures to tell the story:

The dealers room is for buying anime, manga, wonderful plushies, figurines, but also costume elements, dojinshi, Pocky (yum). Its a huge exhibition area with ADV films, Geneon, Viz and lots of anime and mange companies. There's previews, and lots of action--- but this is where lots of folks just run in to show off impromptu skits, posing, and strange costumes. So--- here's the Yatta boys (laughed so much almost dropped the camera):

Then suddenly they turn around and o-0 !:

More photos from the ever unexpected goings on in the dealers room:

and beutiful costumes:

And of course, can't forget these guys: Super Mario Bros !

(for Shinmaru!)

Well, the day is ending, and its been very hot, so I'll stop here. There are more Japanese gardent pictures, AX and Butterfly World, so I must keep uploading! (and remember to back everything up)

Still soaring on the good feelings of wonderful friends! Good night all.

   Winging it!
Thinking about AX 2006,words that pop up are impromptu, varied, beautiful, funny, unexpected fun. If you bring a camera, you just don't know where to start! Even standing in long lines , you never know when someone is going to stage a little unexpected little skit ! My favorite was Box Man! Here are the pictures where he did his act for all of us standing in line to get to the dealer's room:

Standing in line, I am curious== a big box, just sitting there...

What? Somethings shaking and OH NO! What just popped out?

And now , he shows his identity-- its Box Man, the mighty!

People watching, hanging with friends, browing dealer booths, go to films and dance, and finding the unexpected. That included this little fellow who walked around in circles-- chomping constantly-- yes, none other than Ninja PacMan--- some one put a headband with little felt throwing stars, put him on the dealers floor and let him waddle around.

If you haven't gotten to Panda's wonderful article, it is a must! And Shimaru's posts are full of great pictures and comments. I came home with an Ein bag,a plushie Tachikoma and a camera full of pictures I will be sharing. If people weren't cosplaying, then wearing kimonos and Japanese clothing was popular and fun. Maybe next year I will make a costume.. it sure would be great fun to get together others doing the same manga. Meeting friends was the wonderful thing from this year. More pictures coming.... but mix was so super. I went to AX Idol, but I didn't register in time to try for voice acting. But I got to see Johnny Yong Bosch (a shameless Vash fan). But his speaking voice was smoother than what I would expect. I admire the seiyu and what they can do with their voices! Maybe next year. I'm going to post my old avatar-- Mamma Vash -- a little old lady who I can see being a crazy auntie or grandmother -- kinda a little old lady from Pasadena idea. It could be an original costume:

I must say, I did a lot of laughing at impromptu skits, and looking at gorgeous costumes. If anyone is thinking about coming to AX (Long Beach next year) and might like to cosplay (or is just thinking about coming to AX 2007) please PM me-- maybe we can get together a larger myO group for good fun.

Wishing great friends the gentle cool breezes, and sweet night dreams that bring a smile.

Sumimasen! (Very Sorry !)
Old Man Sun got me this weekend! It was so hot and (for So Cal) muggy, I was pretty much just dragging around, and got little done. The disk from the camera is still sitting on my table, just about screaming to be uploaded. I think it will take me a little time, because I am really whipped, and slept the whole weekend! In recognition of the heat, I changed my background to a favorite sketch of mine--- now if I can only find a way to beat the heat!
My schedule is still unsettled, which I think does not help, but going to the second office one day so far was not too bad.
What did you all do for the weekend? Did you see any good movies? One great thing about cable is I can watch a good movie without going out. Yeah, I get that tired sometimes. Well-- back to the giant paperwork factory! Heya to Panda, Novapup, Shinmaru, Shy , and Solo Tremaine!

A good day to great friends-- you all are so cool! Catch you tomorrow and hopefully some of the AX pictures.

Great Weekend!
It was fantastic to go to AX again! i wish I could have taken all my friends there. I got to meet up with Panda, and also Solo Tremaine, Shinmaru and Shy Guy. It was great to meet with people from MyO. This year, the impromptu ,unscheduled events that attendees created were a delight! One fellow made a costume from cardboard boxes-- he would fold everything up , so it looked like a plain box-- then jump up, stretch out his arms (covered by the sides of the box), he had a cardboard box mask and chest plate... and he would wave the cardboard wings. Box Man! I will upload these pictures tonite... he was pretty funny. Another unexpected treat was a film from Geneon of guys playing soccer using cars! The soccer ball was about 9 feet in diameter... the cars would like, the announcers for this "sport" would scream and laugh. It will be called D1-- but it is the real deal, not animated, but quite funny. Check out comments on the con in the theOtaku.com section, and Panda will be setting up lots of pictures to see. I will be putting some in my post over the next several days. The costumes were fantastic--- and then the planning begins for next year. I'm already starting the countdown. It will be in Long Beach CA in 2007.

How was the 4th of July for friends? Any special celebrations? I'm posting another picture from my trip to Florida--- enjoy!

May your most treasured dreams begin to grow and bloom for you!

AX starts tomorrow
I guess everyone is getting ready for holiday plans. AX starts tomorrow , but there is a website so folks can catch a glimpse of new manga and other happenings at AX. This is the first year they are trying a backstage website. Here it is:

www.axbackstage.org

Today is a busy day at work, and still have not got the schedule for starting at the new office straightened out just yet. The homeowner association papers are sent, so hopefully by the end of July, my house will be wearing a new coat of paint. I guess I will wear my paparazzi outfit (plack shirt and pants) because I will be going with 2 cameras, and probably a tripod to get pictures in low light. Ready Man Faye? I am looking forward to all the costumes this year, and I would like to look at doujinshi... maybe I'll get one.

Wishing good friends a happy, sane, safe and glorious 4th of July!

For the Times, They are a Changin....
Shudder! Change! Right after AX, I will start to be working in 2 different offices to try to increase my hours. I was supposed to start today , but everyone got glommed up-- I was scheduled here, no one cleared up the workload, so starting next week will give me time for everything to get set up right....

Kuroneko:Hey Mamma! I see you sliding toward the closet door! No hiding! Besides, they all just fell asleep! That was one monstrous poker game! Vash should know better than to try and play poker with Faye! (chuckles)

I guess everyone is starting to take vacations. I usually take mine in the winter-- remember its never snowy or nasty in So. Cal. Well, the downtown portion of Anaheim is being wired up so that the whole downtown section will be one big hot spot! For folks who use Wi Fi, that will be terrific. I have an air card. When I use it in the city I work in (uploading graphics during a break, or after using the camera a lot), it goes very fast. Its slower in the canyons. But I like it because I can use it at my dad's house, and not tie up his telephone line!

Are any of you "nibblers"? I seem to nibble when I use the computer at home, or do paperwork. Very bad habit. And I forgot my rice crackers today. Oh, well.

Another picture for great friends-- hope you enjoy this (taken at Butterfly World, in FL)

Find the beauty in the day, even it is but a fleeting moment...
