Just another day
Thanks for folks expressing concern about my parrot. The fruit flies didn't worry me, but the spray worried me. There's so much dangerous stuff in the spray , and birds have a very sensitive respiratory tract (OVERHEATED TEFLON can kill a parrot). Right now Ramana is singing, so that means whistles, notes, and gargling noises. It also means a healthy bird. Its been a busy, but not note worthy week.

I've been trying to do more home organization, and went looking for turntables to help organize cabinets-- they used to be very common, and pretty inexpensive--- I couldn't believe needing to travel to 3 stores to find some! (like I said, very unexciting week).

Well, just want to let good friends know I appreciate you, and do think about you all. Just really have had nothing to say . Have a good one!

Quack!
Hey, I usually have ducks on the brain, so why not use Quack as a title. We have very few ducks on the pond lately-- sometimes before I go into work, I stand and watch them, sometimes quack at them. Did you ever notice how other people react to ducks on a pond? Some people make kissing noises to attract them, others will call them. What do you do when you see ducks? Well, I quack at them. They are fun to watch.

Pirates must be popular indeed! We are supposed to have a large meeting at work (which many avoid)-- one of these informational town hall kind of things. This year, they put up a big sign with pirates, and parrots, and a treasure map to attract people to come. If I am not out at the Upland office, I might check it out. After all, any things with pirates (or ninjas or samurai) is worth a look.

This weekend was stressful-- my parrot started growling, shaking her head-- when I went over, the cage was full of fruit flies! I dumped the food, bathed the bird, and put her in her carrier while I tried to tackle the big cage. I had to use a spray-- washed the cage again! I just hoped that nothing would happen to my big bird, Ramana B Byrd--- I started crying and imagining the worst things, couldn't sleep that night. In the morning, the fruit flies were gone, and Ramana was fine. I'll just have to keep on eye on eye. I have since put all the bird food in the freezer so this can't happen -- the fruit flies apparently came from the parrot treat! Ramana must be thinking--yeah, some treat!

well, I haven't been around til now, cuz there wasn't much to say, work was busy. I try to get around to people's sites to comment even if I don't post. Hope the fall is turning out good for everyone--- Halloween is coming!

Hoping Halloween brings nothing but treats for good friends!

Fickle Weather
Hot and cold-- the weather has started to get a little weird-- a bit of rain, then high temps again. This weekend I was so tired, I just about slept through Saturday! There's a lot to get done, but my energy is spent. Woke up this morning very tired, sore throat, and achy-- probably a little virus-- I was sorely tempted to stay home, but got up and kept going. Big M landed in Japan, then had to take an almost 3 h bus ride to get to his destination. I was happy he was able to send me an e mail to let me know he was safe. I worry when he takes long trips. So that helped. I guess the irregular weather and some very intense days at work just did not add up too good. But now that the little virus raised its head, I'm not drop dead exhausted.

Any special things you like to do in the fall? In November, I usually like to bake-- I like to make biscotti, but also other fancy cookies. Used to do that at my sister's home for Thanksgiving, but haven't done that for 2 years-- as we have had Thanksgiving away from her home. I seem to read a lot more in the fall, though we don't get much of a change of temperature, it just feels cozy to curl up with a book.

Today on Yahoo's home page is a fun article on Pirate Speak-- and pirates vs. ninjas. That sounds like an idea for sketching....

Hope that things are going well for you all, you are really special folks!

Time Warp
All this week has been hurry hurry with mounds of paper, phone ringing, trying to do five things at once--- yet when I try to think of one thing that was accomplished, taint nothing to say! Time is either ripping by, or passing slower than a sleepy snail! Usually I leave at 11 am on Fridays, but I promised a friend to cover all day for them, so they could take some time off. Man, I am tired, and there's 2 more hours to go. Haven't slept too well a couple of nights, that happens to all of us. Guess I'll sleep good tonite. Tomorrow Big M heads off to Japan-- When he comes back, those are photos I look forward to. I am determined to go there-- but I would like to be able to recognise important signs before I go (like train, bathroom, hotel). Well, the biggest question today will be: how long can I keep my eyes open!

Another little picture for fall--- but it will be warming up again in a couple of days-- the Santa Anas (devil winds) are right around the corner:

Wishing a good weekend to wonderful friends!

Could all be coming?
Temps have been up and down like a yo-yo.. but its cooler at night, and gradually going down. Dramatic lighting for photography, but a little trickier to get the shot you want---the time frame is a lot shorter. Ah, much better to think about photography than paperwork. I have some more images from the fair-- the animals were cute.

I wonder what new anime series will be shown this fall... I've been enjoying Naruto. And there will be a volume 11 in Trigun Max.. should be interesting. Still haven't been drawing, but beginning to get some ideas. How about you all-- in a creative mood, or waiting for your muse to inspire?

Well-- this animal picture made me smile-- I think Serta would like this one:

Enjoy the day!

County Fair
Hard to believe, but L. A. has a good ol' county fair. I was really tired of the rut-- go to work, come home and do chores, so this weekend was going to be my days off. I went to the county fair. The sights, and sounds, and smells-- bright colours, the animals. Great place to bring my camera. I saw some rides that just made me jitter to watch-- up and down, rotating 360 degrees all at the same times. (makes you want to ckeck the floor for loose change when the ride is still LOL). The day was cooler, and very comfortable-- just walking along looking at everything.

And for the first time, when I played a game on the midway, I actually won a plushie! Curious George! I think he will look cute with Shippo.

The most unbelieveable thing was the foods there that are unique to the fair--- deep fried pickles, deep fried Oreo cookies, deep fried Twinkies with chocolate sauce, and deep fried Snickers bars! Sorry, but not brave enough to try it-- just the thought had me laughing though.

But I figured I'd save the best for last.... This is definitely the kind of sandwich that only Vash could seek out:

Wishing you all a good headstart for the middle of the week-- just a little closer to the weekend!

Love and peace and ? a snickers bar?

Longer Shadows
It's hard to tell the season by the temperatures in So. Cal.... we might have weather warm enough to swim, when the first frosts lay on the ground. I lived upstate New York for many years, and remembered how October brought the first brief snow-- warning of things to come-- and the saying I learned well "Frost on the pumpkin, snow on the turkey" ( snow near Halloween that melts, then the first big season long snow on Thanksgiving). Yeah, hard to figure that I lived in cold weather land (specially since I am no fan of the heat!) Well, driving home this evening, after melting all day, I had a strange feeling. A little melancholy, like something was going to be lost. Then it dawned on me-- the shadows were getting longer-- the surest sign of the change of seasons. Who could ever guess? When daylight savings time changes in late October, do you feel any difference? When the clocks change, it takes me a while to adjust!

While I am frying, Big M will be freezing! October is often hot in So Cal!

well-- another image I want to share.. Enjoy!

(these aren't my parrots, but it was fun to watch them play !)

Songs in my Head
Thanks everyone for suggestions of programs for CG and suggestions. Jaguar, I am going to take a look at that site about vectoring. I have a little book on CSS to read this weekend to try and learn a little more. I got Photoshop elements-- guess I am going to need a little guide, because what comes with the software doesn't help a beginner!

We're having another mini heat wave--- days of heat warnings. My brain feels like guacomole! There's something about hot days especially with any humidity that wrings me out! I hope the weekend is cooler so I can work on clearing things out of the home office-- its a disaster! But tonite, I'm just to wiped to anything! So, no cooking-- take out tonite-- some Kung Pao chicken-- even the parrots like it (but pizza and spaghetti are their favorites)

What projects are you all working on for fun now? I'm still working on my little sketch ..

Kuroneko: Exactly how many months have you been
fussing with that now?

About 5 mos. just have run out of creative juice to get it the way I want. Maybe when it is a little cooler.

From Morikami museum and gardens-- if wishes were fishes...

A wonderful day to wonderful friends!

Return of the Wanderer
Well, back from Illinois. Instead of going into the city, Big M and I went to Ryersons Woods, a nature preserve. There was a little farm there, and the sky was beutiful. Got some shots of fall flowers. The nights were fall cool-- apparently in So. Cal it was really hot that weekend so my timing was good. We also when "mall crawling" (Big M's phrase), and stopped in Barnes and Nobles for a Japanese phrase book. He will be going to Japan for business in 2 wks. He also got an electronic translator that shows words printed in Romanji, but also kanji/katakana/hirugane, so he can recognise signs and stuff (real basic) or get help by having someone type in the Japanese word, and get it translated to English. There is a button on it that will pronounce the Japanese word. He asked me to pick an English word-- I chose apple-- the little machine said "ringo"--- so I guess Ringo Starr is "Apple starr". Hmm, I wonder if Starr means something in Japanese?

What do you like to do on weekends? Do you either read or speak Japanese and how did you learn? It looks much more difficult than I thought, but really interesting. I guess right now, I'll just read about Japan in English!

Something different---I hope you like this little poem. I don't remember how I superimposed the text on image, so if someone could give me some tips, I appreciate it.

Oh, no -- Halloween is coming? Any special preparations? Enjoy the day!

A little heat wave
Well, we're having a little warm spell in Co Cal-- back into the 100's where I work-- at least the canyon is a little cooler. But after at least 20 days in a row, this is really nothing. What's happening out where you live? Jaguar, thanks for the tips about express passports-- I'm going t make an appointment to get one, but that still would not be in time for Big M's trip to Japan. But I want to save up my pennies to get there eventually. When I go to Chicago , I'll bring my camera. We like to go to Nature preserves and take pictures. Most of the geese at work are gone, and there are only 5 ducks now.! :( Flying is getting to be absolutely no fun-- the no toothpast, no hair gel is just one more nuisance. One gets packed into the plane like sardines! And now many times you can't choose your seat! I HATE the center seat. I just have to learn to vault over the person next to me.(sometimes they are out cold, and don't wake up with a gentle urging, which is bad when nature calls!) I think I will wear my Geta sandals-- the Japanese wooden sandals -- on the plane-- they should have fun with those. For the weekend, I will take a nightgown, and one outfit and the camera. Anything else, I'll buy. I am getting really frustrated with the screening. As far as taking knitting-- this time I will not take needles-- I saw an article on the early days of screening to fly where someone made socks using coffee stirrers from the plane as needles. That is almost a dare. I may try that at Thanksgiving. It if worked, I will photograph the socks!

ConneryAlexis-- saw Prison Break last night, it just keeps getting more exciting. But I fell asleep during Vanished! Looks like time to get out the VCR and tapes at home.

Yensid-- I love your Art Tips-- publishng a book I think would be a great idea!

Hoping everyone has a great day!

Yet another little piece of Morikame gardens....
