Gone Shopping

As I've mentioned before, I've been given money by my parents and told to buy my own Christmas gifts this year. So basically, I went to a couple of malls and shopping centers to buy myself stuff I won't open for another couple of weeks. Here's a list of stuff I bought and the ridiculous amount of money I spent...

Panasonic Portable CD Player ($49.99)
Sued House Slippers ($19.99)
Excel Saga Volume 4 DVD ($22.99)
Outkast's Speakerboxx/Love Below Double-CD ($17.99)
Kingdom Hearts for the Playstation 2 ($19.99)
Blue/White Shirt ($20.00)
[Used] Marvel vs. Capcom 2 for Playstation 2 ($31.49)
Grey/Blue Sweater-Vest ($14.99)

GRAND TOTAL: $197.43

I'm a greedy bastard, aren't I? Now all I have to do is buy gifts for other people. A few toys, dolls, clothing accessories, ect. should work for my sister and neice. I feel I should get something for my mom, because she's the one who came up with the idea of me doing all of my own shopping.

And thus will my life savings die a slow, painful, costly death. I just got 10 times more desperate for a job. Time to lower my standards. Janitorial work, here I come.

My transition back into reading American comic books continues (I stopped reading comics when I was 11 or 12, and I just started reading them again this summer), as I have started reading the Batman storyline titled "No Man's Land." Very crazy stuff. Some kind of catalclysmic disaster hit Gotham City (I don't know what it was) and rather than the government repair the city and send aid to the residents, they declared Gotham independant from the USA; a no-man's-land that was closed off from the rest of the world. No one enters, no one leaves. No laws. Things are very 3rd-worldy and gang turf-themed.

Now onto real literature. In Interview With The Vampire, the character Lestat was somewhat one-dimensional. He was manipulative and somewhat co-dependant. In the book The Vampire Lestat, he's very different. It's written in his point of view, and he comes off a lot more human than in the previous book. Of course, I'm reading the part of his lifestory when he was still human, but you get my point. He's 3rd-dimensional.

Hmm. I think it's about time for me to write another list of short rants. Maybe another day. Soon. I'm in too good of a mood to rant right now.

Post-Thanksgiving Rant Action

Ah, Thanksgiving has been over for the past 3 days. Of course, if you live in Canada, it's been over for over a month. Anyway, time for my Thanksgiving commentary.

Wednesday - 11/26/2003 [Freeway of Love]
There's nothing like a 2-hour drive. Usually, driving from my home to my dad's house only takes an hour. However, thanks to the unholy amount of commuters who, like me, were doing some long-distance vacation driving, it took me over 2 hours. On the plus side, it gave me the chance to listen to my CDs a lot. You can't upset me in my car when I'm singing/rapping along to a song.

Thursday - 11/27/2003 [What Do You Mean It's Not Turkey?]
I was at my dad's house, but we were having dinner at his aunt's house that night. Before we left, my dad told me and my brother that every year, our aunt makes chicken, not turkey. We were under the impression we were eating turkey all these years!

My 5 year old sister was getting dressed. She was wearing this purple and black outfit, with these black vinyl boots. We were both combing our hair in the mirror, when she looked up at me and said:

"I like these boots. They make me look taller... like I'm 6 or 7 or something."

They're so cute when they're young. The maturity gets kinda mature and creepy at times, though.

Instead of diving to my Aunt's house myself, I went with my dad and little sister in my dad's Prelude. My dad's tiny Prelude. Because my sister needed space for her car-seat (should a 5 year old still need a car-seat?), I had to move my seat forward, and have my knees pressed up against the dashboard. One hour drive. Very uncomfortable.

My dad's cousins Mike and Wendy and their daughter Jenee were there. I had pictures of my sister from her pre-school graduation with me, and showed them to Jenee, then her mom Wendy:

Jenee: "When my mom sees those, her voice is gonna get really high and she'll say 'Oh my God!' "
Wendy: "Oh my God!"
Jenee: "See?"

I stuffed myself. Twice. Then I had a couple of pieces of lemon pie [Homer Simpson-esque drool]. My brother, who just turned 21, was excited about finally getting some champagne this Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, we all reminded him that he had driven there with his daughter in the car, and couldn't drink. So :p to him.

Me and Jenee decided to kill time by doing a 500 piece jigsaw puzzle. We managed to piece together a good 3 dozen pieces before giving up and condemning the puzzle to Hell and all of its many stages.

Back to my dad's house, we go. My step-mom was sick and couldn't make it to my Aunt's house, so we packed her a plate... which we left behind. So she never got any food.

Friday - 11/28/2003 [Gone Fishin'... Well, Not Really]
My step-mom's brother came over, and asked my dad if he wanted to go fishing. It took my dad a good 5 seconds to grab the key to their new used boat, I grabbed my coat to tag along, and we were on our way. The boat is about 30+ years old, but my dad and step-uncle cleaned it out nice. I remembered that I didn't have a fishing license, so I sat inside the boat with my thoughts while they caught a couple of fish.

Saturday - 11/29/2003 [You Again?]
Like I said earlier, my step-mom didn't make it to Thanksgiving dinner. So Mike, Wendy, and Jenee came over before heading back to Los Angeles. They talked to my step-mom, cooked breakfast (Thank God. I know we weren't.), and said their goodbyes.

My dad picked up a pizza, and we watched Comedy Central all day. I don't get that channel here, so it was good to watch 3 back-to-back episodes of Saturday Night Live reruns.

Sunday - 11/30/2003 [Rain On Me]
I packed up my things, and got ready to head back home with my grandparents. I ran into a bit of traffic, as well as an ass-load of rain. I didn't mind the 1-hour drive back home (less traffic than before, apparently), but I'd never driven home from my dad's house in the rain. It's surprisingly difficult to switch highways 4 times going 80+mph when you can barely see the lines dividing each lane. Ah, reckless driving. It'll be my undoing, it will. Just to make things 10-times more apt, "Anxiety" by Black Eyed Peas playing at the time:

"I'm in a fast car / Driving in the fast lane / In the rain / And I might just hydroplane."

The END!

And that's my boring, yet surprisingly long weekend. I hope all of my fellow Americans who celebrate Thanksgiving also enjoyed their weekend, my Canadian homies enjoyed Thanksgiving last month, my Native American homies enjoyed boycotting this disgraceful holiday, and everyone else just had a nice life.

Much Love

Fast & Feast

It is now Tuesday, November 25, 2003 at 8:30pm Pacific. I have just finished a value meal from Jack in the Box. This was my final meal for the next 48 hours.

It may sound crazy, but in preparation for a very large Thanksgiving meal, I will not eat all day Wednesday and most of Thursday. I will also engage in unhealthy starved exercise. This way, when I'm aching in pain on Thursday night, I can eat with a slightly clear conscience.

I'll also be spending this entire vacation with my father's family, so don't expect any entries until the 30th. And when that happens, expect some Thanksgiving rant-action!

I'm almost done with Chapter One of a story I'm writing. I'm planning to post my story on the 'net after I finish the first three chapters. There are 20 chapters in total, so I'll end up posting more chapters as time goes by. I've been planning to write this thing since high school, and making several revisions and rewrites in my head to improve the story. I hope you'll all enjoy it... you know, after I finish writing a few chapters and find a webpage to toss it on.

I need to clean out my car. Badly. Not as badly as my brother's car, though. No, you can still see the floor under the junk in my car. The only clean floor-area in his car is around the gas and brake peddles.

Weird. I still have the blue hair spray and blue face paint from my Beast costume from Halloween. Maybe I could be daring and put a blue streak in my hair for a couple of days. What do you think? Naw, I thought not.

Rant Time!!

Who doesn't like a series of short, petty complaints and observations? Before I begin, let me just say that all of the following rants were writing with humor in mind. More or less, they're my actual views, but some are exaggerated to entertain. Let's get this ball rolling...

Those idiots at Square who wrote FF7 came up with one lame-ass plot twist that left several holes in the story.

Thanks for telling me the plot twist in FF7 before I finished the game, by the way, Mike.

Hollywood Video is run by a bunch of assholes. I've applied there several times, and have yet to be interviewed. Yet I somehow see new employees get hired all the time.

What's this talk I hear about Posh Spice joining Rocafella records?

There's a war in the Middle East, but let's forget about that and focus all media on the Michael Jackson trial.

Michael didn't do it.

Neither did Kobe.

But R. Kelly did.

They say Madonna is a genius who knows how to keep her career going, but Christina Aguilera is a slut. My, how quickly we forget Truth or Dare, Erotica, and Justify My Love. Perhaps Christina should do a few more raunchy videos, then she'll be a respected pop culture icon.

50 Cent's songs ain't that good.

Ja Rule is a hypocrit.

Nobody wants to admit it, but Andre 3000 really is the better member of Outkast.

Am I the only person who thinks Liz Phair looks like Meg Ryan? A little too much like Meg Ryan... O_o

Women would think I was handsome too, if my only competition in a movie were dwarves, orcs, urukhai, two really old men named Ian, whatever the hell Gollum is, and one of the Goonies.

Despite how many VJs and news correspondants obviously don't like Avril Lavigne, they continue to kiss her ass.

I've been growing this semi-afro since July, and I still don't know if I want it braided.

No Christmas list this year. Everyone is tossing me money and telling me to do my own Christmas shopping.

I'm not Jewish, but I'd sooner celebrate Channukah before I celebrate Kwanzaa. No offense to anyone in America who does celebrate it. Both of you.

People complain about celebrating Thanksgiving, because it was the day the pilgrims slaughtered a tribe of Native-Americans. Meanwhile, what's so romantic about exchanging cards and flowers on the day St. Valentine was executed because he refused to give up his religion? Both holidays are used as an excuse for people to indulge themselves, one way or another.

I refuse to go see Tupac Resurrection. I can see 1,000 similar documentaries on Tupac's life on television for free, thanks. Tupac is not the second coming of Christ. If he really did fake his death, great. If he really is dead... feel free to grieve again.

Nobody leaves comments on my Otaku Life posts!

INSERT PSEUDO-FUNNY TITLE HERE

It's so sad when you have the chance to speak your heart
But things fall apart
It's way too sad.
It's so sad when you lose the chance for love
When you know you should've
Done something sooner
But you didn't

And that's too damn bad...

You ever have one of those moments where you made up a song in your head, but have no musical talent and can't play it? I've been making up a lot of piano jazz songs lately. I really should learn to play it. Shame my lyrics are as awful as William the Bloody.

Well, I bought The Vampire Lestat yesterday. The first dozen or so pages are good. I can't wait to see where the book goes from here.

My homie Jason let me borrow his Final Fantasy 7. As hard as it is to believe, I've never played any FF game for the Playstation or PS2. 1, 4, 5, 6... yeah, I played those.

Here's an interesting conversation I read in a comic book at Borders between Spider-Man and Marvel Girl (Jean Grey of the X-Men)...

Marvel Girl: You're the first guy in 6 months who hasn't immediately pictured me naked.
Spider-Man: ...
Marvel Girl: Until now.
Spider-Man: ...
Marvel Girl: Are you done yet?
Spider-Man: Yeah, I'm done.
Marvel Girl: ...!
Spider-Man: Sorry. Now I'm done.
Marvel Girl: !!
Spider-Man: Okay, for real this time. I'm done.
Marvel Girl: !!!
Spider-Man: Hold on... alright. Now I'm done.

Has anyone else noticed that Mike Meyers' real voice is exactly like Dr. Evil's? He sounds nothing like Austin, Bastard, Goldmember, Wayne, Shrek, the guy who married an ax murderer, several skit characters from Saturday Night Live...

For those of you who aren't familiar with theOtaku.com (host of myOtaku), Guru (linked at the top of the page) is the quiz series. Here's the results of my "What Gundam Wing Character Are You?" quiz. A little ambarrassing, if I do say so...

Be Cool, My Babies!

I'm watching that Threes Company movie on VH1 right now. Someone explain to me why Somers thought she'd get paid more than her other two co-stars combined. In fact, she wanted to get paid twice as much as their salaries combined. I would've been happy making $30,000 per episode, with at least a dozen episodes per year. Whatever!

I felt a little creative over the weekend, so I wrote the myOtaku Rap. Maybe one of these days, I'll record it, so you can all behold my mad rhyming skillz.

Ok, you don't have to laugh that hard.

I just finished reading Interview With The Vampire yesterday. This is sad news, because I started reading it in mid-August. It shouldn't have taken me that long to finish that book. Oh well. Now I can move on to the rest of the Vampire Chronicles series: The Vampire Lestat, Queen of the Damned, The Tale of the Bloody Thief, Memnoch the Devil, The Vampire Armand, and Merrick. I should be done in 2005.

Hm... finances...
I want to buy The Vampire Lestat. That's $8. I want to go see Looney Tunes. That's $6.50. I want to buy Kingdom Hearts. That's $20. Oh, and let's not forget about gas for my car. That's $15+.
Only $49 (not including sales tax). Considering I have a fortnightly $60 allowance, I'll just have to learn to make that last $11 stretch for two weeks.

I need a job so bad.

I signed up for my Spring '04 classes. I was afraid the classes I wanted would be filled, but I didn't have to worry about that. Nope. Turns out all of the classes I wanted over-lapped each other in time. The acting class I wanted happened at the exact same time as the Radio Studio class. In fact, a lot of classes I want seem to happen around the same time. Even my alternatives. I had to pick Radio Studio and 3 alternate-alternates; Photography, Web Design, and Intro to Music.

Maybe I'll go to my dad's house this weekend. It's nice to go down there and forget about the harsh reality of my life, and remember the harsh reality of their lives. And how I miss that 5 year old sister of mine who's too mature for her own good.

Much Love

Well, I Never!

Let's be starting this biatch off with a conversation I had with Mike...

TuronEatingPinoy: wow that sucked
ManicWebb: what?
TuronEatingPinoy: Looney Tunes (Why where there so many scenes with Russell Crowe on a ship?).
ManicWebb: were they making fun of that new movie of his?
TuronEatingPinoy: actually there where no Looney Tunes in the movie I saw
TuronEatingPinoy: which I found odd
ManicWebb: you saw Master and Commander?
TuronEatingPinoy: no
TuronEatingPinoy: I don't think I did
ManicWebb: quit the cryptic
TuronEatingPinoy: huh?
ManicWebb: you're talking in riddles
TuronEatingPinoy: no I'm not
ManicWebb: O_o
ManicWebb: you saw a Looney Tunes movie with no looney tunes, but Russel Crowe was all over the screen on a ship?
ManicWebb: and you're not speaking in riddles?
TuronEatingPinoy: yep
ManicWebb: you're fired

Turns out he didn't even go to the movies. Now I'm offended. Only because I'm such a big Looney Tunes fan, of course.

That reminds me. I need to go see Looney Tunes Back in Action. The crew at AHQ have been talking about it for like a year.

Mmm, Americanized Immitation Chinese Food. Gotta love that Mr. Chau's Chinese Fast Food. The only way it could get any better is if the food actually tasted good. I could've had better from the Food Court in the mall.

I like my homemade smoothies. A few scoops of vanilla ice cream, a banana, a few spoons of strawberry jam, a few cubes of ice, a splash of apple juice. Blend until tasty. Try it.

I think I'm listening to my Black Eyed Peas CD too much. How can I tell? When you can sing along to this...

Lapit mga kaibigan at makinig kayo
Ako'y padadalang, balita galing sa bayan ko
Yaung pamamahagi ang mga kuento
Ng manga pangyayaring ganaganap
Sa lupang pinangako

...without any understanding of the Tagalog language, then you know you've been listening to the song too much. That's "The Apl Song" by the way. It's by the Filipino guy in the group. I would bring up how I can sing along to (and almost translate) the lyrics to "Latin Girls," but I took Spanish in high school and live in California. It's not so surprising that I can follow something like "latina chicana por mi."

If you're a member of OtakuBoards, and you're into the Adventure Arena, then join my very first RPG, [Teen Titans Plus]. I know it's not the most original, but I figured I might as well start my first RPG with something that had pre-created characters and a fairly simple plot. It's no Kill Adam, but it's not the worst RPG ever created on OB. At least I hope not.

Manic's World of Music

"Good day, good sir. How do you do? Look fine."
"Fantastically well. I am certainly not fine by far. But you might say I'm close to spectacular."

Yeah, so I'm in the record store looking at the used/returned CDs the other day. Why are there so many copies of Michael Jackson's "Invincible"? Hmm....

I bought Black Eyed Peas' new album. I found it used for only $8, so I went for it. It's your average rap album, sans the negative messages and degrading talk toward women. Okay, maybe it wasn't that average. The songs are mostly about partying. There's one song dedicated to Latin girls (grrr), an angsty rock song (yes, an angsty rock song smack-dab in the middle of a rap album), and "Where Is The Love?" which I'm sure most of you know is social commentary.

Does anyone else think Britney Spears' Behind the Music was completely pointless? I mean, it's a one hour documentary, and the first 30 minutes covered one year of her career. They could at least wait until she's in her late 20s or early 30s before they reflect on her career.

Jay-Z, I'm sorry. You shouldn't cast women in your videos who mean-mug the camera. It's just not attractive for a fashion model to look like a gangsta-bitch.

I just found out my cousin has a crush on Pharrell Williams, the turtle-looking black guy from The Neptunes/NERD. Yes, I was laughing when she told me, too.

For some reason, the background MIDI I put on this page isn't playing anymore. Weird.

My baby don't mess around
Because she loves the soul
And this I know fo' sho'.

When Britney Spears was asked to comment on a song about masturbation on her upcoming album, she said "This is a touchy subject" and "...it's a healthy and positive thing and I think it's reality."

She wouldn't need to masturbate if she'd stayed with Justin. *snaps fingers three times*

"Hi. I'm Ja Rule. I just gave MTV and BET footage of me and Minister Farrakhan talking about how violence and beefs in the hip-hop game have gone too far. By the way, buy my new album titled 'Blood In My Eye," which just happens to be the most violent collection of songs I've written since the late 90s."

Azarath Metreon Zinthos!

Yeah, I've been watching too much Teen Titans. On top of that, I'm getting really pissed at idiots who think Teen Titans is an anime rip-off. It's getting to where a cartoon can't feature a few wacky facial expressions without somebody calling it an anime rip-off. Let's all forget that Disney, Merry Melodies, and Fleischer did it all first. Ok, Fleischer is a bad example, because they eventually failed to compete with the other two. Either way, I can tell you Toei wasn't the first to draw a big-headed kid with huge eyes.

I saw Matrix Revolutions. I wrote my review on the message board, so go look for it there in the Music Movies TV forum.

After the movie, I followed Mike home. I can tell he was trying to lose me, because nobody drives 40mph in a residential zone at night with wet roads. Of course, if he does that all the time, that would explain why he got in a car accident and ran a red light all within one week. Not that I'm putting his business all on the internet or anything. Heaven forbid.

By the way, someone should tell him that it's not easy for a '89 Honda Civic to out-run a '89 Honda Accord. Not when I'm driving.

Well, it's been a week since Halloween. The Christmas decorations should be up in the stores by now. Time to get in some holiday shopping.

Rather than go shopping for me, my mom was gonna give me a ton of money and let me loose in the mall. Then she realized that I never spend money on myself, and I'd probably do something stupid with her money, like buy gifts for other people rather than myself.

Only one month until "Honey" hits theatres. For those of you who don't know, Honey is a film starring Jessica Alba (grrr) as a hip-hop dance choreographer. I'm very excited about seeing this film. It even has Blaque's new song "I'm Good" on the soundtrack.

I'm so glad Blaque is back. I need my fix of three sexy black R&B singers who put a shiver down my spine. TLC hasn't been the same since Left-Eye passed, 3LW has a new third member who I haven't seen in singing action yet, and I've had a lowered opinion of Destiny's Child ever since I found out Beyonce is the only one who can put out a good solo album.

I seem to have "Take Me Away" by FeFe Dobson stuck in my head for whatever reason. It's actually really catchy.

Much Love.

Nugget Of Joy

I got a lovely postcard in the mail today from Mervyns. They've rejected my seasonal application for work. I'm not bitter, though. I neatly folded the postcard and put in it my trashcan. Whenever I cough up phlem, though, I do somehow manage to spit on the postcard everytime.

And that's my nugget of joy.
Much Love.
