My Birthday!
It has finally come! Who woulda thunk it. I am now of the ripe old age of 20. Unfortunately there is no time to party since I have a midterm on Wednesday. But after that I will be able to enjoy my new age in all its glory.
On the top of lastest animes I've watched, here is a list of what I can think of at the moment:
1. Gantz (Season 2 Only)
I was told not to watch season one because "nothing actually happens." But luckily season 2 was pretty good. I enjoyed the story even though some brief parts are really softcore porn. My only disappointment was that the ending was so ambiguous. I did read up that the manga continues way past that anime and that the last mission on the anime is an anime-only mission. I don't mind the deviation so much since this mission explains a part of the story that the manga implicitly follows.
2. InuYasha Movie 2 and 4
Both decent movies. I saw the second movie a long time ago on YTV actually and just recently saw the fourth movie. The only complaint that I have about InuYasha is that all the battles are the same. They will struggle to even touch the bad guy and then in one strike they will defeat them.
3. Spriggan
Definitely one of the more unique storylines. I find it interesting how North Americans will commonly take ancient stories from Greek/Nordic/Roman/Arabic mythologies and make a "universe" out of it, but on the other hand I've seen a number of Animes that take Jewish and Christian mythologies and turn them into something else. This movie was pretty good in my opinion. I really liked the imaginative process that went into the story. I would rank this movie as a 4/5 only because it didn't quite have that "wow" factor that I've seen in other high quality animes. Visually it looks quite good and thankfully there aren't really any cheesy characters.
Still need to watch:
1. Ghost in the Shell
2. Samurai Champloo
3. Cowboy Bebop
4. InuYasha Movies 1 and 3
5. RahXephon (although I'm told nothing happens in this one either)
6. Blood: The Last Vampire
7. Tenjou Tenge
Oh and as a side note, ever since I went to Japan I've been trying to find a way to watch the GTO Live Action series. For some reason that show was so entertaining for me even though I couldn't understand 99% of what they were saying and had to keep asking for a translation.
