sorry
it's late i know i forgot
I was calm as I sank into them. I was happy being lost in them. There was none of those things that people always fear. All the hate the pain and the hidden doubts that you normally feel going through daily life were not there. It was upsetting when mom called me downstairs to eat. I wasn’t really hungry but I forced myself to eat so I wouldn’t be hungry when I went out. I was in a calm mood one again once I was finally able to get out of the house. Once outside I ran to meet Jessica. She seemed upset when I got to her. What’s wrong, I asked. I thought you weren’t going to show, she answered me. Well I am here, I calmly said. Yeah, she said. What do you feel like doing, I asked her before she could say anything else. Well, she said shyly. Well, what, I asked when she stopped at that. Never mind it is a stupid ideal, she says naively. Just tell me, we can do whatever you want, I tell her. I heard about a popular gathering, place from some people that walked by, could we go there? Sure, do you know where it is, I ask. They said it was on the corner of ivy and 6th. Ok then to the corner of ivy and 6th, I exclaim. Do you know where that is, she asks. Of course, I say, this is my hometown you know. I don’t remember anything being on that corner, but a lot of things have been happening recently so maybe someone built something there. We take off for ivy and 6th in a comfortable walk. As we get closer it begins to get really crowded on the streets. Some alleys were so packed that we even had to go around them. It took us quite so time to get there but when we finally did there seemed to be nothing special about the place. Sure some of the people looked a little strange and it was oddly crowded but other than that it seemed to be just another building. We wondered around amongst the people for a while but when we began to get strange and creepy looks then we decided that it was time to leave. On the way back to familiar territory we managed to scare ourselves by talking about all the looks we got and what we thought that they meant. Soon we were jumping at every little noise and we were keeping an eye out for anything that was out of place or weird. We tried hard not to run fearing the extra attention that would earn us. I tried to change the subject and take my mind off all of the things that were scaring me. “Hey,” I said to Jessica. “Y..yeah,” she stammered. “I don’t remember but have I asked you what school you go to?” “No, I don’t think you have.” “Well let me ask you now. What school do you go to? I don’t think that there are many schools in town other then mine. And I haven’t seen you in mine.” “I get home schooled.” “Really, cool. I would love to do that. It means no stupid teacher and sleeping in.” “No, it really isn’t that great. I don’t get to meat anyone and it mean that you parents always know if you have work and if you are doing it. Plus it is just as hard if not harder then regular school.” “Really, I never really thought about it that way.” “Yeah, not many people do. Everyone tends to think it would be great.” We talked like this for sometime and forgot all about our fears. Soon we were in more familiar territory. As more of the building that I knew came into view I became braver. “Say, there is this one bar that I have been curious about. Do you want to go in there and check it out?” I asked her. “Well I don’t know,” she stammered. “We don’t have to get anything, or do anything like that. I was just curious and wanted to go in and look around. That would be all right. But we don’t have to if you don’t want to,” I added quickly. “I don’t really see anything wrong with just looking around,” she said shyly. “Right then let’s do it,” I shouted enthusiastically. I led the way to the bar and entered first. At first Jessica just stood by the door looking scared and out of place. I put on my most calming smile and walked back to her. I took her arm and led her over to an empty table. “I really don’t think that this is a good ideal,” she tells me quietly. “Shh. It will be fine just relax some. No one will know the difference if you would stop acting as if you don’t belong,” I state mater-of-factly to her. After sitting there for a while and having nothing happen the thrill of the place wore off and I was will to leave. We started to leave just as a large group of people walked in. the looked directly at us as we walked to the door. The whole group was laughing until just as we passed, at which point they became disturbingly quiet. Jessica stalled as we reached the group and then after a while I became tired of waiting on her to come to her senses and grabbed her by the arm. She was at first startled at my touch but when she realized that it was just me she calmed. I lead her directly at the group and she crowded near me. “We should go around,” she whispered to me as I walk. “Why,” I just stated and continued to walk. As we approached the group she crowded as close as she possibly could. I walk use right through the group. At first they seemed to be insulted that I had the nerve to do it but from the center of the group I heard a muffled laugh. The rest of the group seemed to relax when the heard it. Something was calming about the laugh. I could not exactly explain it at the time but it made me want to turn around and find the man laughing. I fought the urge to and continued out the door. As we rounded the corner of the bar I relaxed me grip on Jessica and turned to look at her. She seemed to be haunted in some way. She was staring back behind her as if she could still she inside the bar. I shook her slightly trying to get her to focus. “Jessica, Jessica,” I called to her. Then suddenly she snapped back into reality. “What on earth is wrong with you,” I questioned. She didn’t seem to know what I was talking about so I just dropped the subject.
