"The Child Inside"
My world is always changing,
As I wake to face each day.
It seems only yesterday,
I was a child on Mommy's lap,
But as I look in the mirror,
A stranger stares back.
The child inside is afraid,
She hides her face,
Closes her eyes,
Pretends I'm not growing up.
As I go to school,
Sit through classes,
Learn new things,
The child inside begins to cry.
She knows friends have gone,
Knows some will be left behind,
Realizes everything will change.
She doesn't want to go on,
She wants to stay here,
To be happy and carefree,
To have Mommy wipe her tears,
And Daddy fight her fears.
I yell at her to stop,
And as she wipes her face,
As she fades back into memory,
I cry myself to sleep.

I wrote this because it's how I feel about being a Senior. I don't want to go on to college. I don't want to leave my friends...
