CHAPTER 9 (the final chapter w/ Epilogue)

There was a knock.
Shiata got up.
She got suited.
Then she went over the battle plans with the generals and king. Everything seemed distant, like all hope was lost if she died. Everyone was protecting her during the battle because they wanted to
save their fellow people. It wasn’t for her, and Henta didn’t even come to say ‘see ya’ or even ‘good bye’
She kept playing over in her head when she saw that page and sacrificed almost everything from her own brother. Then how his tone, those last words he said to her ‘go away’, they had stabbed her and hurt more then a million daggers could hurt.
Then Jona, he confessed his love, right before the battle. She didn’t want to die, she didn’t want him to die. And if she did die, she hoped he could get away , and live a happy life without her. Then Kayio, her innocent face and peppy attitude always lightened Shiata up everyday she was with her. If , like she said, Henta and her fall in love, then she wished them happiness. That her brother can wake up and she his loves smiling face every morning, unlike, she knew, how her’s and Jona’s were going to end up.
Tragic.
Sad.
An unhappy ending.
Then there was Joanne, she was so sorry for treating her the way she did at first. Even if she was the one she knew for the shortest time, she taught her so much more. That being able to express you feelings is okay, that life is short and to live it out, an as Shiata marched with the rest of the soldiers to the castle she thought of her mom and dad, her village, the kings and queens she met.
She thought of times when she was happy, times when she was sad, times even when she mad.
Like her grandmother use to say ‘ Did you know right before you die or you think your about to die, your whole life flashes in front of you?’ Then her mom would hit her grandma aside the head gently for saying something about dying to a young girl and grandma would say that she would have known it sooner or later.
As they came closer to the Dark Castle the smell of dead bodies wreaked the air, and birds that were as big a tree swooped around in the air with the same eyes of the creature she met in the forest, it was good though that they didn’t drip acid goo or half of the army would have been dead by now. The army was made of all the creatures in the Otiki forest so it was huge, but not huge enough to defeat this powerful, dark army. Then when they came to a row of those acid dripping creatures, she knew the battle would begin. The king came with his white horse shouting orders
across the front line. He then got off his horse and handed the reins to Shiata, he said in the castle that she was going to get the horse because she was safer on it, she didn’t believe it. Even if you had on the strongest armor, these creatures were close to unbeatable. Then all the monsters gave out a their loudest screech, making sure to weaken their enemy who had good hearing, and charged right at them. Screams filled the air, blood splashed everywhere, Shadow soldiers and mystical creatures alike feel to the ground dead. Soon small little black things smaller the a Dwarf flew through the air landing on allies’ heads and eating away. Chomping on brains. This all happened in a instant and Shiata jumped right into it. Taking out her sword she got from the weapon room and slashing at any monster coming towards her. Her horse raged through the crowd of different types of creatures, as if they weren’t there.
Shiata swing her sword killing the Shadow monsters, it was actually easier on her horse, she didn’t exactly kill them either, but injured them. For her goal was to reach to the steps entering to the castle. Inside there, the castle, there was a door down a long hallway where, beyond that, no one had got any farther. Though the king believed that only she could get that far, because a prophecy said so. Shiata didn’t believe in prophecies, though followed along with what he said. The closer she got the thicker the enemies got, and the less allies she had. It wasn’t the fact they were all dead, it was the fact they were to scared or held back and stayed around the edge of monster. When she came close to seeing the castle’s gigantic door, Shiata’s hope strengthened, maybe there was a chance they would win. Could there be? She dug her heels into the horses side to tell it to go faster. She was almost there, just a another minute or two......
Though before Shiata could finish the thought her horse fell sending her flying off it’s back, and sliding on the ground. Luckily she didn’t get trapped under the now dead horse, though she would soon be dead, for standing on front of her was a shadow soldier, like the one they had met in the forest. She quickly tried to get up but her ankle gave away sending her back to the ground scrambling. The monster raised his hand, which held a sword from a warrior it killed, let out a deep roar and then sent the sword swinging down. Shiata closed her eyes, ready for impact. This is it for real, she thought. Though she heard a clang, that rung through the air, which seemed to make
the cries of battle and agony disappear. Shiata opened her eyes slowly to see a boy ,with the messiest mat of back hair Shiata ever seen on his head, holding a sword blocking the shadow soldier’s attack. “Henta.” Shiata whispered. Blood dropped from his hand since he was using both his hands, one of them holding the blade. He grimaced in pain but , surprisingly, pushed back the monster. As the monster stumbled, Henta quickly turned around and grabbed Shiata, pulling her up, and ran. The monster roared then came charging after them. Despite it’s size, it was fast. They were right there just a few more feet until they got to the steps. Then the monster jumped over them landing, on it’s hand and feet right before the steps, it’s back facing them. Then it tuned around on it’s legs, towering over them with rage. Henta stopped, letting go of his sister’s hand and bringing up his sword to block the monsters strike, though his arm was to weak and didn’t move fast enough. Shiata expected to hear another her brother cries of pain, but instead she heard two swords collide again, creating another ring through the air. There standing in front of her brother was Jona, he pushed the monster back and slashed it. Soon a goblin cam running over helping him.”Go now ” Jona said looking back at Shiata. Shiata looked at him with wide eyes, Was he really doing this? Where were all these people coming from? “ What are you waiting for Go ” he called again over his shoulder. Shiata nodded and grabbed her brother’s hand and ran through the heavy, big, wooden door, into the castle. It closed all by it’s self, Henta and Shiata both leaned against the door, sighed, and slid down.
“What the hell is wrong with you ”Shiata yelled then she slapped her brother,” Do you know how much trouble it is out there ? You could’ve been killed or worse What were you thinking?”
Henta slowly turned his face and blinked a couple times to make sure his face was still in line, then spoke, “ And if I hadn’t come you would have been dead.”
Shiata sighed, “Fine then, hold out your hand,” Henta nodded and held out his hand, “That’s deep, it must’ve hurt. Here I’m about to put some herbs on it, it may sting a little.” she reached into her satchel and took out some herbs and gently rubbed it on Henta’s hand, he bit his lip because it did more then sting. Shiata smiled then ripped a piece on her shirt the sleeve of her shirt under her armor and rapped it around his hand tightly.”There you go, now I have to take off this armor, it will slow me down.” she quickly took off her armor and helped her brother up, “Come on.” They ran down te dark hall, it had a few lanterns here and their, but it was still extremely dark.. Soon they came to a door similar to the one leading into the castle, though it had about 5 torches surrounding it. Shiata slowed down and started to walk closer, engraved were seven rings with a tiny dot at each one making a circle. Shiata started to walk slowly towards them, but then there was a rumble. She backed away from the door looking around, she looked over her shoulder into the darkness. Henta backed up next to his sister. The noise was coming from down the hall and was getting closer, finally the creature came out of the blanket of darkness showing it’s hideous features. It was the same shadow soldier from the forest, but this time was bigger, slimier, and it’s eye were more yellow then red how, only a dot of red showed where his iris was. It looked down at them, then it spoke to Shiata again, without moving it lips.
What do you wishhhhh? Eternal life I can giiiiive, if only youuuu let meeeee go baaaaacckk.
Where?, Shiata said, Where do you want to go?
IIIII only waaaant my heaaaaartsssss back. You took them frooooommm me.
I never took anything from you I never even met you before, how do you expect me take something, if I never knew shadow soldiers existed until now?
Whaaaaat? You don’t recognize your oooowwwn mother? Hmmmmm, my little.... heneto.
Shiata froze, was this really her mother? She was the only one who ever called her that....but if it wasn’t her mother then how....
Whaaaaatttt? You don’t beliiiiieve me? That hurts me that you don’t know you own mooooother, and how you toooook my book of hearts from meeeee
Shiata drew her sword, “No Your are not are mother ” Henta looked over at her from the long silence, for nothing had happened, it was like she just went crazy. The monster let out a loud screech, that was more heart mushing, stomach turning, an brain destroying then ever before. Shiata seemed not to recognize it at all, and went right towards it. She stabbed the sword into it’s stomach and pulled the sword out as the Shadow soldier screamed int pain.
Why ? Why are you hurting your own mother ? Whyyyyyyyy ?
Shiata thrust her sword slashing at it’s legs making the shadow soldier fall down. Then held her sword above it’s heart and thrust down. Henta closed his and looked away, then he opened his eyes and raised a n eyebrow, “Ummmm, yeah, what just happened?” Shiata just sheathed her sword and walked over to the door.
“It got me angry.” she said shrugging. “It was..someone we knew and they were being possed.”Henta nodded slowly as she placed her rings inn the circles, then just before she put the last one in Henta stopped her.
“Wait, aren’t you going to keep your promise you made?”Henta said.
“I ready broke my promise to keep you out of harms and-“
“No, I mean the one,” he hung his head, “for my 14 birthday.”
Shiata eyes got wide, she forgot, today was his birthday and...... “I promised to give you a present that dad wanted to give you.” she said softy.
Henta nodded holding back tears, “Aren’t you going to keep that promise, and then you said you would never leave me after my 14 birthday and that we would move out of the village and live at new small town or village. You said so yourself.”
Shiata eyes softened and she walked over to her brother and hugged him as he began to cry. “I’ll keep that promise, and I’ll even give you dad’s present, I promise, but just not right now. I’ll never leave you, I’m always next to, even when were millions of villages away, I’ll be there. And I even got you too a new town like I said, didn’t I?” she said trying to hold back tears her self.
“Though it’s not the same without the living, breathing you right here beside me You’re all I have, don’t leave me,” he hugged her back, “please don’t leave.” The both held each other for awhile longer and then Shiata pulled him apart and wiped the tears form Henta’s eyes.
“I have to go now, I have to go and fight, I love you, brother and always remember that.” she kissed him on the forehead and got up and walked over to the door. She put the last ring in then the big heavy doors creaked open. Henta looked up as his sister walked into another room, he fell to
the ground on his knees as the door closed behind her. It was the last time he would ever see her again.
That was the last time I saw my sister, and when I walked outside from crying my eyes out, it had turned sunny outside. Humans and goblins danced around in joy together. Elves and Centaurs sang with joy, everyone was celebrating. Soon all creatures of all types came running from behind
me, running into husband’s arms. Kissing each other and embracing each other as if the had been gone from each other for years. It was the most joyous moment ever in the Otiki woods. Though only I walked slowly down the steps, sadly, as if the dark sky still had not gone away. Then as Jona, Kayio, and Joanne came over to greet me I passed them up as if they were never there.
Later they said when they went into the dark castle to look for my sister, she had disappeared, no body, ashes, or bones. Nothing, she had just disappeared. They said the only found the body of the man behind it all, Var. Even if it’s been 10 years sine after it, I still remember.
“Dear, we have a guest, they say they have a present for you.” Kayio said taping his shoulder, “are you daydreaming again? Why do you always look so sad on your birthdays, it’s should be a time to rejoice Now pay attention will you.” Henta looked at his angry wife’s face. He blinked a few times then looked down at a person in heavy black cloak , carrying a small box and a envelope on top. The person walked up the stairs and placed it in front of his feet and bowed. Henta bent down and picked the box up and opened it , he slowly pulled out a silver necklace with a locket at the
end. He opened it and what it had inside the locket surprised him. Inside was a picture of his mother, his father ,his sister when she was three, and him when he was about one. He then opened the envelope, but it what surprised him the most. It said:
Dear Brother,

You see, I kept your promise. I am glad you are living a healthy full life. Please forgive me for taking such a long time to fulfill my promise to you. Now since you became the King of the Fairies this year I deiced this would be the best time. I hope you have gotten used to me not always being there, I am so sorry for not being there when you needed me the most. Like your wedding, or when you finally received all your rings. You may still wonder how I got into the layer since I only had 6 out of 7 of the rings. Well, you didn’t notice, when I hugged you that last ring turned into will, I still don’t know why, but I’m just glad you made it through life without me. I love you.

With all the love, hope, and luck of the Otiki Forest,
Shiata Hermento ( your sister of course)

Henta stared at the letter then looked up to say something to the person, but the person was gone.”Where did that person in the black cloak go ” Henta shouted at Kayio and standing up. She pointed to the door.
“Wait where are you going ? ” Kayio yelled after Henta. He ignored her and ran out the castle door, he got a glimpse of the black cloak disappearing into the crowd of people. He ran through the crowd pushing people aside, hoping that it was her. When he came to the entrance of the cave he ran right through the opening without hesitation, but when he came to the end of the cave the person was gone. His shirt was heavy with sweat form the summers heat and his running. He had lost her. Could that have been her?, he shook his head and started to walk back through the cave when he spotted a glimmer of light on. Henta looked down to see a ring and he held it to the sun’s light, hanging on it was the color of will, it was brown. And engraved in it was this: I will always be with..... Henta wiped the seat from his brows and slid the ring onto his wrist with his others. He looked up at the sky and smiled, “Thank you ,sister.”, he whispered to himself. He looked over to the stone in front of the cave that was a memorial, for a great hero that all the other villgaes had, a memorial for his sister, Shiata.

As for the others, as you can see, Kayio and Henta had fell in love and had became married, they had 3 children and both died of old age.
Jona’s wife was chosen for him because he refused to chose any other person then his first true love. He married her and had a miserable life, even if he was known as one of the greatest kings and sorcerer of all time. Though they say before he died as visitor in black cloak came and kissed him on his cheek and said “Your angel is here.” Jona’s eyes brightened, and he mouthed something ,the person’s name perhaps, took his last breath, and died. They say his eyes hadn’t gleamed like that since that day Var was destroyed.
For Joanne, she rejected many husbands until, finally she found the perfect man. He treated her right until she died him at her bedside. Then he took off with her money and became rich. Though, ironically, a week later they say someone had shot him with an arrow that had blue feathers.
And for Shiata, no one knows. They say she spent the rest of her life helping others. Some say she had been swallowed up by the dankness it self when Var had been destroyed. Some say that she secretly stood by her friends side all her life making sure they lived a good life. Some even say she went off and became a bandit or an assassin Some even say she lived and helped her friends generation to generation, never leaving them, as if her heart could beat for ever, or did not beat at all. Whatever happened to her, she would always had been the most greatest of heros, in the heart.
